I mean I hate to say it. The speedy looks better on wrist than the explorer ii and wears way smaller due to not being a “true 42mm”. The speedy is 39.5mm. It’s only 42mm because Omega counts its pusher protectors. With its shorter lug height too it’s just a better designed watch than the explorer II but that’s not why the speedy wears smaller. It wears smaller because its bezel measurement edge to edge is only 39.5mm. Also in regards to the thickness on the speedy., It tapers in and does not appear as thick as it actually is. Again, due to amazing watch design. Because the explorer II is such a large looking watch it benefits from the black bezel which makes it appear smaller to the eyes.
I agree with you on how it wears due the sizing ect. The Speedy looks better due to it being refined with size. Although, I prefer the Explorer II. I think the gmt master ii’s look better than the Explorer II also. But for day to day wear, it’s the Explorer II for me. Thanks for commenting. My Explorer II is now on a bracelet and walah it looks great!
I agree. It’s sharp and stands out, where the explorer ii steel bezel wins for me, is that it goes with more things. The black bezel on the speedy is a strong contrast on the outside of the watch. The speedy couldn’t (it can but you know what i mean) be worn with blue or any other bright colour that doesn’t slot in with the black bezel.
If you are a one watch guy or buying your first luxury watch I would go with the black dial, cause it’s iconic. But if you are a collector & have 5 or more watches in your collection then I would said the white dial
I had to watch it again to see the speed master. I don’t see it. I think i prefer the new moonswatch in white. If i had unlimited funds, i’d have the white speedmaster and the hesalite speedy for history.
I have the sapphire-sandwich black dial in this video and I run it under water and clean it a soft toothbrush with soap and water no problem. The only difference between my Rolexes, is I don't dunk it in water and swish it around. I just run it under some light tap and its all good.
6.5 wrist. The speedmaster wears better due to the lug to lug but i’ve had owners feedback of the speedmaster white. It’s not as legible through the day with the thin markers. If you have other watches, maybe the speedmaster. Ready available and different. If you have no watches or you’re downsizing, then I say the explorer. Worth the wait and only the sizing would make you change your mind. Everything else is perfect.
Me and you both hahaha. Explorer II all the way for me. The strap is an Artem fkm hybrid rubber. I have some other videos focusing more on the strap. I’ve been wearing mine for around 3 months straight and I highly recommend.
Interesting, thanks. Personally, lume doesn’t come into my buying decision. In my experience even the best lume fades fairly rapidly. If I need to tell the time at 3am, I’m gonna be looking at my phone anyway 😁
Thank you for the comment. I love lume, i avoid my phone when in bed, so it works for me. Also i love it when you walk into shade during the dat and the watch is screaming lume at you 🥰 Thanks for stopping by 👍🏾
Completely agree on all points! To my eyes the Explorer 2 gets a lot of is allure from being that iconic tool watch...steel bezel, white dial...at the time of release a rare combination that stood out and is copied year on year by smaller brands. While we all know this white dial speedmaster will be a HUGE success for Omega, no question...Is it going to be as iconic as other speedies in the line up? Honestly I'm not so confident it will. That said I have watches that are not "iconic" but just feel good to own and add another color option to go with different outfits or moods. And this to me is like one of those watches. I can say of the 2 I might be swayed to buy an explorer 2 on a whim for the right price, but it's not on my list. But this speedy I know for sure I definitely wouldn't buy.
Thank you for sharing that, we’re on the same page. It’ll be great for switching up the colour and matching with clothes and mood as you said. But I don’t think this will now be the model Omega is known for and other brands can’t compete with.
This one is the STORMTROOPER. As Daniel Craig gave us a preview and he actually had a cameo as a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Awakening. That White dial is true stormtrooper white. Just love it!
I say buy the white omega and wear it whilst you are waiting 2-5 years to get the Rolex - maybe you find you don’t need it. If I could walk in and buy either I’d probably get the polar. Have “OG” SM and I love it.
If i was looking for a first watch. It might the Explorer II, but in black just because i’d think it goes with more things. I’d also wear my garmin until i get the call.
Omega's issue is that they have too many variants of the same model, and when it comes to the moon watch, the black version will never be out of fashion. In this scenario, the Polar over the white speedy.
That’s a good dilemma to have haha. You could have both in white or the Explorer in black. I use to think the polar dial was better. Now i know the Explorer II is great in black or white.
The white SMP300 is still the best white dial Omega in the current lineup in my opinion. Don't know why but the white Speedy just doesn't look right, the dial looks way too big and out of proportion.
I wish I pulled one up to compare! I was very excited to see this, but after getting hands on. Plus seeing the black next to it, it doesn’t work for me as well.
@@timemycollection Would've been a cool comparison for sure! I was really excited for this release, as i thought this color combo would work like on my beloved smp300. But now i know that i want a black Speedy, still not 100% sure if i should go with hesalite or sapphire.
I only recently liked the black explorer II. I think i’ll take any now if i was back square 1. Seriously if the explorer ii had a shorter lug to lug, like the speedmaster - it would over take the GMT masters due to it looking rugged and oldschool. The white Speedy does look 👌🏾, but in the flesh with the black next to it. Black dial for me. But, maybe i’m judging too early…
Comparing the new dial to the old dial is a ridiculous exercise. The white dial is a NEW watch, and stands on its own. Appreciate each one for what it is. It's like saying you like your new child better than your old one. Dumb.
Considering there is slight changes but only one main difference in the colour of the dial. I think it makes a lot of sense. The price, weight, applied indices and white dial all might be things some people may prefer on the black dial. But unless people will definitely buy both watches because they’re both speedmasters , i think people will compare the two, 3,4… speedmasters that Omega present to us and make a decision based on which one they prefer. Anyone who has two (both) is lucky and cool 😎 Have a good one.
Yeah, I've always felt that the more rugged and tough the watch (Diver's, Explorer, Field, Pilot, etc.) the less practical an open case back is. It almost makes it look more delicate than it is. Whereas Chronographs and Dress watches could do with open case backs to display the movement. Hence why I think it works well with the Speedmaster 👍🏻
Thanks for posting. It would be great to see a comparison of the lume in the dark. The original Speedy has a black dial, which enhances the lume in the light, but the difference might be less pronounced in the dark. I have a Speedy pro and I can attest that the lume is excellent with superb legibility in the dark.

The speedmaster is actually 40mm and more wearable than the explorer ii. The reason Omega says 42mm is because Omega counts the pusher protector part of the case which accounts for 2mm.
