Connor Ryan absolutely destroyed this number! The riffs, the emotion, the brokenness... I know everybody's Christian will always be Aaron but we have to give credit where credit is due! Amazing job!!
Connor is a badass. I got to see his replacement, Jon Cardoza just a few short days ago here in Atlanta. Pretty much just as good as Connor. Christian may be one of the most demanding lead male roles in musical theatre I have ever seen. The character journeys through a broad range of emotions.... and shit the vocal demands of the role!! I wonder how an actor could stand up straight after playing this role!!
Ewan is my Christian, none of the Broadway performances match the original film

Honestly they all sound dull compared to Ewan McGregor. The character of Christian is innocent, pure and naive, they all didn’t get it right, singing and acting wise.

Conor's performance is so spectacular spectacular that I had to go see the show twice. Truly a star. Don't miss Moulin Rouge! It's absolutely stunning. As a huge fan of the movie for years, I truly think the musical took the amazing story to a whole other level.

@Ryan B I'm not simple. I love musicals. Absolutely love them. Out of all the musicals I have seen in my life this one was not enjoyable at all. It's way too over the top and the extra music shouldn't of been there.
Conor Ryan is INCREDIBLE! We had to go see him twice in LA, truly so so talented.
I saw them when they were in Minneapolis and they just blew me away I love how he put in that hopeless romantic that Christian is I think he might be better than Aaron treveit
Same for us in Denver. So blown away by Conor, and the rest of the cast, that we had to go back. Seriously considering going to see it again when it hits Vegas after New Years.

Aaron Tveit can't be beat.. I was fortunate enough to watch this play in LA, and while I still completely loved it as a whole, I really really wish I was able to see it while Aaron was still doing it.
I saw him live. El Tango de Roxanne left me breathless.

I went to LA to watch Moulin Rouge around August and walked out of there in awe. This video doesn't do Conor Ryan justice because my god he did not miss a single note, his voice was absolutely incredible and his performance was out of this world. I feel so lucky that i had the opportunity to see him live.

I cannot overstate how spectacular this show (and this scene) is live.
This and Chandelier were probably my two favorite moments of the show..... Backstage Romance/Chandelier/El Tango De Roxanne are the three top tier moments in the show for me.
Conor is a vocal superstar and such a kind soul to meet. Super empathetic dude. This cast (and 'the gallery') deserve a real recording of their soulful and dynamic work.
Broadway album is borderline robotic by comparison. fight me 😂

I watched tveit twice live. This guy is incredibly talented, but the power and emotion tveit brought to each performance brought me to tears each time. I’ve never heard it as good as when he did it live and DELIVERED.
Yeah I think its fair to say we tend to gravitate towards what we see first... and it also needs to be said that there can or will be a difference between theater performances and professionally recorded work. They seem to dial down the emotion for performances that will be on permanent record. We saw Conor live many times and this is a somewhat less emphatic and emotional take than what he does on stage. My request for their own recording stands :)
I really, personally feel like no one beats Aaron Tveit's interpretation of this character. I've compared Conor and Derek and Aaron in live performances and there's just no competition. While Conor is a talented singer, I had a really hard time connecting with his interpretation. I don't understand the random rifts that he feels compelled to add, but I feel like you don't need to be extra to show off a great voice. He was incredible without those.
What each of us connects with is going to be endlessly subjective. I could be similarly certain of Conor's supremacy in the role; that his riffs are awe-inspiring and add variety to songs everyone has heard 1000 times, that his kindhearted, unguarded performance invites empathy from an audience which is then blown away by his soaring vocal prowess. That by comparison, while talented, Tveit sounds like an actor reading from a page, feels like he's afraid to look uncool, where 'self-assured' is the last vibe Christian is supposed to exude. The vibe I get from Conor is that he's just in it and doesn't particularly want 1000 people watching, where Aaron very much does. Is all of that fair? Probably not, I and understanding that is why I don't love when people speak in absolutes. The world is gray area. But I still love Conor. YMMV
Saw this last month in Hollywood. It had me in tears it was so good. I drove 2 hours to get there and it was worth it.

They are both just magnificent performers, and Conor Ryan blew the f*cking house down each time. The day I see either of them win a tony is the day I’ll f*cking burst a blood vessel in my eye from crying so hard

Saw this two weeks ago in LA and Conor Ryan is so amazing. this video doesn't even do it justice. the whole cast of the Tour is phenomenal.
The first time I saw Moulin Rouge was here in Houston, my home town and I saw Conor. His beautiful performance will forever hold a place in my heart. But I have to admit when I saw he left I was so sad, and then I saw who was stepping in and it was Aaron. I can't lie, Aaron my my heart drop. Both Conor and Aaron had a flare that made my head spin

Connor is insanely good in this role. This performance does not AT ALL reflect on how good he was. Do not judge him at all because he blew me away (and my boyfriend and my mom and everyone in the theater) both times I saw him (at the Pantages Hollywood and Smith Center Vegas)

Conor Ryan is perfection as Christian. So MAGNETIC! This role was made for him. The best Christian I’ve seen! No one can capture the beautiful doe eyed boyish innocence and stark rapturous intensity like him. He gives so much heart and really breathes new life to the tragic poor idealistic romantic bohemian artist that Christian is. Christian’s big sappy, dopey heart, his charm, and above all, his all consuming fearless love is like a fever that infects, that wholeheartedly and completely wins audiences over, yes, all this was perfectly captured and played by Conor Ryan! The emotion is next level! Give this guy a Tony! And Courtney Reed was his perfect partner, she fucking killed it with her performance of Satine. The charisma, personality, humor, wit, and realness and humanity she gave to Satine made me weep! She is my favorite Satine. They were so perfect together in these roles! The chemistry and playfulness was magnetic and off the charts; they really pulled the audience in. I live for both their performances. It was everything and more! Fucking phenomenal, you will leave and want to see it again the very next day! Whoever found the magic to cast these 2 together deserves a huge raise! The perfect pairing of Satine and Christian! The ultimate love. So pure! They are magic together.
As much as I love Aaron’s interpretation of this number, I feel like Conor’s performance has an intensity and urgency a few degrees further than Aaron’s. Aaron’s performance made me think that Christian was intoxicated and emotional, whereas Conor’s performance seems very sober, and on the verge of a complete breakdown.
I mean Christian is supposed to be EXTREMELY drunk in this scene so aarons almost makes more sense. Conor’s is amazing though, I love the rasp!
I think Connor takes it too extreme. His portrayal made me scared of him nor feel compassion. He does have a great voice though. That last note was amazing.

ok so i just got home from seeing connor ryan in the tour in portland, but i also saw derek klena literally 19 days ago. derek klena's stage prescence is literally insane, i mean he's just done so many shows hes a pro. but connor ryan was such an awesome actor even if his voice wasn't as strong and aaron tveit or derek klena. it actually seemed like he was descending into total insanity which i didn't get as much from the others.

I saw this live on Saturday and the Raw emotion .. It was Phenomenal. Conor Ryan's voice through the whole theater a one of a kind experience
I fall within the minority of not favoring Conors interpretation of Christian in this song (I do think Conor is a great singer). I saw Christian Souglas performance and was floored. His acting and singing as Christian was magnificent.

Idk, I know every actor is different and I get that they all get to put their own spin on the character, but I'm having a hard time not comparing him to Aaron Tveit. The dancers were great though
This is what I’m having a hard time doing. He is an INCREDIBLE singer, but Aaron just played it more smoothly and suiting to the movies and books etc. it also feels this man’s voice is a little forced as-well as his expression but could be down to nerves.

No doubt Tveit is technically solid, but Conor has that *plus* a soul and vulnerability he just can't muster. Listening to the Broadway album sounds like jaded lounge singer covers next to the touring cast. ALL of them are super dynamic and engaging on stage. I never would dump on a good actor. This actor is very very good. They are just two different people and I am more emotionally moved by Aaron's take. I feel the intensity and passion more in his version. I can still appreciate Conor though
I think it all has to do with what we hear first. i saw this cast 2 weeks ago and went into it blind. I was only familiar with elephant love medley and the opening number but even then i think i had only listened to mcgregors in the past. I wanted to go into it blind because i knew it was a jukebox. when i watched it i absolutely adored the entire cast because i had nothing to compare it to. i honestly prefer conor over aaron but im very aware this is probably only because conor was the first one i watched and i know if i had prior knowledge about the obc recording my opinion would definitely be the opposite

Honestly, this Christian was extremely disappointing. His voice stayed in the same key and had a weird, grouchy tone. He sounded more like the Duke from the original movie
