- In the aftermath of the Hema Committee report, there is clamour for committee to look into sexual harassment in many other film industries too. In a meeting held in Bengaluru, producers and actors within the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) strongly opposed the creation of an Internal Committee (IC) aimed at addressing women’s safety concerns in the workplace, arguing that it is unnecessary and could lead to "financial losses" for the industry. This move comes after the Karnataka State Women’s Commission recently suggested establishing an IC in the film sector, following the release of the Hema Committee report, which exposed poor working conditions and widespread sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry. The establishment of ICs in workplaces is required under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act.
TNM’s Pooja Prasanna spoke to filmmaker Kavitha Lankesh on what transpired in the meeting, how there is a push back in the industry to forming PoSH committees and whether there is sexual harassment in the Kannada film industry.

Very few Men have the Integrity to stand beside Women and raise their voices against any kind of injustice! Women can lose their Reputation, career, job opportunities when she may be the sole bread winner of Family! If every Actor has a right to be in Films so does every Woman has the right to work in Films without compromising her honour and reputation! Why should A Woman face this dilemma to ‘adjust’ for role! Problem is there is only OneFilm Industry! Unlike other Companies like IT Hotel and Hospital and other Corporates Small and big Businesses where Women can join she has other alternatives! But every Institution must have Safety Rules and Regulations in Place! This is the Place where like Men, women too spend much of their time working to bring An Income home…Let her do it in Peace and Joy bcs she has so many other struggles and challenges in the Outside world!
Men lose their reputation jobs and livelihood only because they said something to the woman which was misunderstood by her. The entire society will ostracize him even if what he said was naive. Even if he self deletes, the woman will walk away as if she is not responsible for it and will call the man weak. This is how you guys play the game. There is no honest bone in your body which will raise the voice for such men.

There should be an independent sexual harassment committee which can handle all complaints as confidentially as possible given that witnesses, complainants and the accused have to be questioned.
There should be another committee to deal with fake complaints
Sexual harassment committees are independent enough to objectively examine complaints and do justice to everyone involved. They will examine and evaluate evidence, not taking a complainant’s oral statements for granted without corroboration.

And these men have no recourse for justice under Indian constitution or this gynocentric society. And you ask where is it being misused. This level of delusion is very difficult to even comprehend.
