Superb work by Nelson Riddle on this charming sex comedy from the 60's. Bruce Kimmel at Kritzerland finally gave this score the treatment it deserved with his wonderful 2-CD soundtrack release. Riddle did some fine work for films like EL DORADO, A RAGE TO LIVE, WHAT AWAY TO GO, and Kubrick's LOLITA, which contains his delightful, emblematically teasing theme "Lolita Ya Ya"! Keep up the good work Fred!

Nelson Riddle - known to me through orchestrations and Frank Sinatra - provides a great score here. The horn and flute duo in the overture set the score up nicely. A lovely mid-60s romp. Thanks, Fred!

“Paris When It Sizzles” (1964) is your non-typical romantic comedy of the 60s, starring William Holden and Audrey Hepburn and directed by Richard Quine. It breaks some standards and even as the trailer mentions: “William Holden and Audrey Hepburn go absolutely ape!”. While not flawless, the movie is entertaining and shines through the wonderful set-design and overall energetic performance by the actors.
Musical accompaniment came from famous arranger Nelson Riddle, who, once in a while stepped in front of movie orchestras - where he never failed to deliver. Here, he provides a wonderful score, as colorful as the picture it's supposed to accompany, mainly featuring heartwarming arrangements, which makes it very worth listening to apart from the picture. Enjoy!

    Great Nelson Riddle
Research: According to the son of the leading actress Sean Hepburn Ferrer this was Hepburn's most beloved film. The film also features a cameo appearance by the American actor Mel Ferrer (Hepburn's husband at the time) and the German actress Marlene Dietrich here in one of her last appearances in a film.
The film is a collection of references to the artistic and private lives of the two main actors.
The song That Face is a parody of the song "Funny Face" from the film of the same name.
The film was shot at the same time as "Charade", also starring Hepburn, and in fact it is possible to recognize many common locations, such as the puppet scene present in both films.
The protagonist Gabrielle's name is the same as the protagonist of "The Nun's Story".
In the film Holden refers to Pygmalion, the adaptation of which was made into the film "My Fair Lady", in which Hepburn stars.
Another reference from "Breakfast At Tiffany's" involves the allusion to a rain-soaked cat, one of the final scenes of that film.
George Axelrod, the film's screenwriter, has Holden say: «Our Gabi is precisely that very trustworthy and very convenient character with whom one cannot go wrong no matter how badly one writes in all popular literature, the prostitute with a heart of gold», another clear reference to Holly from "Breakfast At Tiffany's" of which Axelrod himself is the author and continues "no, to tell the truth, the "P" with the golden "C" is in second place, in the lead there is Frankenstein, of course, a being who creates or reconstructs another human being and either falls in love with him or destroys him" a reference to "My Fair Lady".
PS: My birthday went well. Privately in the family, but with many messages and phone calls of congratulations from relatives, colleagues, friends, loves.
