That was a nice watch during my work lunch, ha ha! It's funny, I had 5 or 6 RC cars back in the 80'ies and spent a lot of my time with them, but I never even heard of this or many of the other cars you're featuring here, Andy, so I appreciate seeing these even more! And, apart from the servo, it looks pretty impressive!
Thank you very much Mschdk I’m glad you find the videos interesting much appreciated. Yes the servo did it no favours. I’ve change all the electrics and what differences now :) take care fella , keep the videos coming
Thanks. Wow, this brings back memories! I never seriously got into RC cars, but I built one of these back in my teen yrs. Now I'm middle-aged and building FPV drones. Obviously the battery and electronics tech has progress since those Ni-cads and frequency crystals...
Wow, something I haven't seen a while. I remember Panda vividly. I believe it was a Taiwanese co. They had this one and I remember an acquaintance having one. They also made a NASCAR style stockcar. Being a Tamiya/Kyosho guy, I never paid much attention to them and apparently, I wasn't alone. Still very cool to see. Thx Andy the chap from England LOL.
Hey hey cheers for the message, I don’t think they were overly popular buggy’s. I thought there were US company, as it gives the contact address as Varicom Ind, fountain valley CA. The NASCAR was called a Goodwrench Stocker, they also did a clone of the hornet called a Cylcone. Cheers for watching as always and for your support, take care
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 Hey Andy one of the large west coast dealers in CA was called Hobby People/Hobby Shack. Now out of business. They were made in Taiwan and I think it was Thunder Tiger that was doing it for the US co.
Cheers Glenn , I think these are cool little buggy’s, it’s survived really well as well. All the electrics have been up graded now to something a little more modern , so well See how it goes soon. Cheers for watching :)
50 quid, bargain mate!! That's a pretty decent 'vintage' buggy you've got there, and it will be interesting to see how well it runs with better electronics in it!!
It was a bargain ;) well the next video on it will be coming soon , electrics have been swapped out and it’s ready to go, new servo and esc and my trusted receiver :) cheers again
Thanks Dave. Yes I see what you mean about the decals looking Optima-Mid like , well noticed. Yeah a lot of people are desperate for kyosho to bring the Mid series of buggies back
Ohh i remember thoose from some old catalouge that i probably read unhealty times over and over again when i was a kid haha. Nice bargain and especially in that condition.
Thank you Mattias , it is in lovely condition , it’s almost like new. It goes well for what it is and it will be good to compare it with the updated electronics :) many thanks.
Cheers fella , well I’ve stripped all the old gear out now and installed more modern gear including a much better servo. All will be shown on the next video ;) cheers
I have a yellow one. Technically they are a little better IMO. Better front suspension, the rear end articulates like a Hornet but the central ball joint seems to work better than the Hornet pivots. Mine has the integrated ESC/Radio which I know some people dismiss as "toy grade" but it doesn't really make much sense to me as Tamiya used to sell a combined ESC/receiver too (CPR unit) and plus it's nicer to have proportional throttle instead of a 2 step MSC. I've run a Tamiya sport tuned motor with the stock electronics too and it handled it fine. The only real issue with these is the rear ball joint tends to wear out and you can get a bit of random rear steering lol. I like them, anyway. Something a bit different but familiar at the same time. I definitely think they handle a bit better than the Grasshopper. Not much you can do to fix the tendency for the rear end to lock up under throttle on either model but the superior front end makes a difference and at least the rear can articulate when you're coasting etc. I found mine seemed a bit more stable and composed.
Actually, now I watch the video again, it looks like you might have a bit of the play in the rear ball joint, too. Take a look at the rear chassis either side of the "rod" that the ball joint is on the end of. It can start to wear into the chassis either side and then the whole rear axle can move side to side slightly.
Hey hey , will try and write a proper response , but I’ve checked the rear ball joint for side to side play, and there isn’t any , what I ha r done though since this video besides putting new electrics in is strip it down and regress everything and I put plenty of grease on the ball joint as well , many thanks ;)
Another interesting buggy Andy.. is it better than the grasshopper??. Probably.. most things are.. but as I always say for so many reasons.. apart from performance and all that purists stuff the grasshopper is the greatest buggy ever produced!!!!
Thank you Darren cheers for watching (to be honest I still prefer the GHopper) but it’s interesting as this was a buggy around the same time as the GHopper 2 and a similar spec except the larger motor. Thanks for the support follow up video soon
Hi Andy. I have got a question. You are a clever man. I have just replaced the spur & pinion gears in my TT01. The spur is a Tamiya 55 tooth. The pinion is a 25 tooth. Both are 48dp. The motor is a stock Tamiya Torque Tuned unit. What ever I do I can’t get the spur & Pinion to mesh or even touch. I have tried all the positions on the motor mounting plate still doesn’t mesh. Do you have any ideas mate. Thanks buddy.
Off the top of my head you may need a different t size spur gear or pinion or you may need to flip to motor mount around so the holes line up differently when you mesh the spur and the pinion , double check your instruction manual as well ;) cheers Greg
@@andyrobinsonrc2480 Hi mate. I really appreciate your help. I am pulling my hair out. There’s something silly that I am doing or not doing. I have tried everything. Thanks buddy.
@Greg Cale having looked at the manual kit pinion gear is 19t and kit spur is 61t and the pinions you can use with the motor mount in the kit are between 19 and 22 teeth. Without seeing your car maybe you have incorrect parts ?
Wow, so I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world ever had this car… This was the first “Hobby grade “ RC car I had as a youth outside of RadioShack stuff. My first job when I was 12 years old was working at my local track, maintaining the track and building RC cars. This car was famous for breaking at the base of the front shock tower. I remember the company that made this was basically a rip off company. They had a better car that was literally a ripped off knock off grasshopper, but had a Lexan body and they also had a four-wheel-drive monster truck. That was a very bad rip off of a clod buster with a single motor, I wish somebody could find these cars and do some video reviews on them. Anybody remember these?
I also remember after a while, they released the panda as a RTR, it’s came with gray rims/wheels and a two channel stick radio. This may have been after the company was sold?
Hi Shannon that’s some great knowledge cheers for sharing. My old car now belongs in Glenn Barclays collection. Yes I believe they were weak around the front tower. Cheers for taking the time to watch the video
Nice one, Andy. Yep, I'm one of the people who's never ever heard of the bloody thing!
Thank you, yeah there are a little obscure, certainly more known over the pond. I think there a cool buggy my self

Always wanted one of those, such a cool buggy!!
They are cool, very Tamiya grasshopper / fighter buggy in style but very cool looking and they drive alright as well
Nice one Andy. Viewed from above the black decals on the white body remind me of an Optima-Mid, slightly. Hoping Kyosho bring that one back.

Yep friction dampers all round , will take Tamiya oil shocks easy enough
Does it have a 540 sized motor?

Come with a 540 motor?
Yep it does come with a 540 size motor as standard
I am the gearbox case looks less Stout in the grasshoppers.
Maybe a little but I don’t think there’s much in it, Tamiya may have the quality edge
