- I am finishing up the insulated door I am building for our root cellar. The door is going to be finished in barn boards. It will make a perfect entryway to our cave.

It looks much nicer with the rough sawn trim, it adds a lot more character. It's coming along nicely, it should look great with the door installed.
When cutting your R board, use a sharp pocket knife, it won't leave all the nasty crumbs you get from sawing. It may take several passes to cut through but not any more time. You could also just score and snap, like you did with the factory pre-scoring.
Your table saw with stand, appears to be close to the same height as your miter box stand. When ripping long boards you might be able to use the work supports on your miter saw stand as out feed supports for you table saw. That would make for safer ripping when you get near to the end of the cuts.
You mentioned the rip cuts closing and binding on your table saw blade. Try jamming wood shims into the cuts to keep them open, to prevent the binding. Please start using push sticks to finish your rips. Even just a simple length of scrap 1 x 2 with a notch in one end is safer than having your hand so close to the blade. In the blink of an eye you can cause serious damage. Saws are merciless.

Al, when I was a kid in the 40s, 50s and early 60s, my dad's cape cod home heated off of coal and a round furnace that was in the middle of the basement. It had a heat exchanger built around the burning chamber for the coal. The heat would rise by itself and the cold air would drop via the cold air returns. The coal furnace acted just like your wood stove/furnace.
OMG I want a man with your skills!!! No hating, please. I know, I know....get those skills myself but there's only so much an old lady can do! You make it look so easy and you have such a great attitude!

Heya Terri Poulin - I was just wondering how you were doing earlier today! Hope all is well with you. I'm good. Life has been messy for a while but I'm alive and glad to be back on here :)

I'm going through a big mess right now and it just seems to get bigger - I was gone for 3 weeks looking for property because I'm now losing my farm. My daughter passed away, all my furniture taken away, farm equipment taken away, most of my animals taken, my truck broke down, now my house and farm are being taken away. Feels like I'm walking in the footsteps of Job (or the makings of a good country song!!) - the good news, Job was blessed 10x what he lost. I'm praying that is in my future. It is hard walking through it and it's very easy to feel overwhelmed but I'm forcing myself to stay at peace and not put my hope in what's in front of me. I desperately need to find a place to relocate and figure out how to move a farm! Other than that, I'm quite well!
Terri Poulin - I am deeply saddened to hear about your daughter and your current woes with the farm. You're a lovely person and deserve better than that. It seems like we're on similar paths at the moment. My health issues resulted in me also losing my own home and all my belongings as I was too ill to deal with it all which resulted in them being repossessed. I therefore ended up relocating the 10,000 miles back to Australia and just after arriving back here, my closest brother passed away and then my mum passed away a few weeks later. So, somehow I've gone from a high end London job with my own house in the UK, to living unemployed in a shed in semi-rural Australia but I've decided to see it as a cleansing process, to view the shed as a test case for a _'tiny house'_ lifestyle and to reflect upon the fact that I'm blessed to be alive _(which, to be honest, wasn't the expected result health-wise)_ I also hope to start trying some homestead activities such as growing vegetables soon and see where life takes me... Meanwhile, at least I get to start watching Al's inspirational videos and be part of that wonderful community again. I pray that you find a solution to your issues with the farm and that life soon treats you better!

Looks beautiful man!! My in house pantry is about 1/5 of that haha! Gonna work on my basement in the next few weeks. Need space for next years harvest :). Cant wait for the next video
How big of an area do you want to make?
Lumnah Acres well i live in an apartment building. The basement i have is about 7ft wide by 16ft deep. I hope to use at least half for vegetable storage. Mostly just potatoes and root veggies. I have a 3000sqft garden about half a mile from my home. In which im gonna try to get self sufficient next year. Been working since summer to get it going. I have most of that on instagram name: bigbadthomazzz. Sadly i cant store anything on the garden since i cant build a rootcellar. The shed in mid summer gets over 100f so no way i can leave produce there. The basement stays nice and cool all year so thats great. Cant wait for spring :)
That sounds like an awesome garden!
Using glue and screws, as the wood dries it will split. Nails will give and move a bit with the wood; or you could make slightly overlarge holes for the screws so the wood can move a little.

What is the purpose of using wood glue if you are also using screws?

Why don't you just set up the chop saw right there in the basement? All you need to is sweep up sawdust when you are finished.

Isn't the use of liquid nails to be avoided with foam? I thought there were sometimes issues with it eating the foam over time? I don't want to be a know it all, I'm just wondering.
They make a special liquid nails for foam
Should of used 3/4 plywood thicker then those boards.

Dumb question why didn't you fill your root cellar walls and door with compacted saw dust would have been cheaper an more green? Realise would have taken longer to compact but would have lasted forever. Freinds had one been working for 100 year's.

Is there no clutch on that poor drill? If there is, set it and pull the trigger one time, following the screw into the wood until the clutch slips, then release the trigger.... Oh wait, you have an air nailer and you screwed those boards onto the door frame instead..SMDH
