    I am beginning to think there isn't anything you can't figure out and make work. It is facinating watching how your mind works. I look forward to you videos. I have used your videos to help figure out problems in my home. Thank you. I wish you a very happy New Year and good things to come in 2018.

    Having worked at HD, the reason the stickers are so hard to get off is because unscrupulous people switch the stickers from something cheaper knowing it will just get scanned and out the door they go. This prevents that. They do it when the store is super busy and the check out lines are long. Checkers are doing their best to get people through the line before tempers flair.

    When using a jigsaw for making cuts in tight spaces it sometimes works better if you put the blade in the saw backwards and pull the saw through the cut. This can also help to keep the saw from bouncing off the work surface in some situations.

    Your science using the 'natural draft' method is very good! I might have chosen schedule 20 pvc for the vent paths (you could still use the dampers) and the main reason is metal has a stronger aversion to sweating/condensation. 44 deg. is very close to your desired temp. It will be interesting to see if the temperature holds seeing you didn't finish the piping installation. Great job as always! Merry Christmas Lumnah Acres

    • @LumnahAcres
      @LumnahAcres  6 лет назад +1

      I thought of using PVC pipe but I also thought the galvanized would look nicer too. I didn't realize the sweating point. I have to keep that in mind if we have any issues. Thanks for the info. Merry Christmas to you and Becky!

    I would probably drill holes in that second plywood as well and fill the center of the two with some insulation foam. That way the only air exchange would be through the vents and it would be easy to control. Maybe later you could go back and install glass block or something similar to give the room a natural light source when needed as well.

    • @scooter041031
      @scooter041031 6 лет назад +1

      You do not want light in a root cellar because that can cause bacteria to grow but the insulation idea is really good. Control of the air exchange is key.

    • @FarmFreshIB
      @FarmFreshIB 6 лет назад +2

      True. I was thinking a blackout shade over the glass block, then you could open it when you needed it and shut it otherwise. I guess just prefer natural light over a switch when possible.

    Merry Christmas Al, to you and yours. I am not sure why you did not cut the pipe when it was flat. I do understand using the jig saw. We had a root cellar when I grew up. We kept potatoes over the winter and into spring. I am not sure why you want or need a damper. Rodents or air control? Happy Holidays to the whole forum. God bless America.

    Al Lumnah Acres : Easy-peasy way to remove stickers, use a hairdryer aimed at the sticker. The heat melts the sticker glue and makes it very simple to peel the sticker off. Or go about it the "manly" way and use a heat shrink gun. Same principle! :)

    • @lindapolle1665
      @lindapolle1665 5 лет назад

      Yes, that will get a sticker off, but may I add: after you heat the sticker, scrap it off with a plastic card, like a credit card. [ This is also super in washing dishes]

    Rim Joist not sill plate, sill plates sit on the foundation flat to which rim joist attach to. Also I would not put a 4" hole through your rim joist unless it was a min. of 2x14, you will compromise the structural rigidity of the joist unless it's an engineered lumber product. Though I am not a huge fan of the IBC there are really good quick reference tables in it for how where and size lumber to use for strength and where and how to put holes in them to retain rigidity and strength. Putting holes through a foundation wall like you have would be structurally sound as compared to the rim joists.
