Resin Chess Board
I used Platinum Ultra Clear resin to make this gorgeous chess set. I used about 150g (5oz) for black pieces and black squares. I used about 150g (5oz) for white pieces and white squares. I used about 600g (20oz) for the base. This is the set I bought: amzn.asia/d/i1...

Don't worry about if someone doesn't want to watch something, that's what fast forward is for!! It is beautiful!
That's what I did, not because the video is bad, it's just because my time is short but I still want to see her work haha
As a passionate chess player (55 years of playing) this is the most beautiful chess set I've ever seen! (And I've seen many). Cheers!
I’ve played almost as long, and I can predict I never WILL find a more beautiful chess set! Totally amazing!
I like to watch step by step because im new so I am learning from your mistakes :D thank you. People can always fast forward.
Do stop worrying! I love your channel and watching you work. Please keep making cool stuff that you enjoy making. Your joy is part of what makes it fun to watch.
I have this mold and it taught me that I do not have a completely level surface in my house.
Mine was torn in the middle , maybe I have to put some weight over it to level it. I worked on one just like that one and loved my results even though my board was torn. Plus , for the pieces I broke a few because they didn’t fill completely. You have to shake then and squeeze a little to fill the complete mould. Just practice. Just trial and error . Practice makes perfect. Good luck to everyone .
One of the prettiest chest in checkerboards I've ever seen ! Great job well done ! Go Girl Go !!! 😀💖🙏
Beautiful project! I like the gold flakes showing on the white squares. Kinda pulls it all together. If I needed a chess board, I’d make this. But I have a gorgeous one in white marble and gabro that rarely gets used.
Gorgeous, loving the 3 colours, pieces are beautiful, the board was a big ask to get perfect, you did really well, will enjoy the burgundy and silver colour one too. Thank you for showing us your art. ❤ xxx
Your videos are never too long. Always a pleasure to watch. This, my dear, is fabulous! Absolutely love the final result. Well worth all of your hard work! xoxo
I never got into playing chess, but I have admired the workmanship of several handmade sets, this one is absolutely stunning.
Had to watch this because I am making my son a set for Christmas. Yours turned out great, love the colors.❤
Beautiful Beautiful work! Also, a pipette always helps me suck out excess resin. Helps a lot. ❤
I wish I could see you in person, you are soon funny 😅 and creative. GOD bless you
Wow! Just beautiful! The detail with the gold pen just stands out and gives it such a great finishing touch. I love the gold leaf.. I also love your longer videos!😊 When you use alcohol to help get them out, try pulling the mold out and away from the piece and spray in a few places all around, then gently twist the mold back and forth to disperse the alcohol. That might work better for you. Great work Julie!❤
I thought the spray of alcohol was supposed to be on the mold before adding the resin?
@@Gems-of-Hope-Rocks Yes you’re right, you can use alcohol to break the surface tension between the mold and the resin. If you mist the mold with alcohol right before pouring the resin, it will help to release bubbles. But, what I was referring to was using alcohol as a lubricant to help free the piece from a deeper mold after the resin has set. When you have a deep mold like those Chess pieces, they can be difficult to get out of the mold. A few drops of silicone oil will work too.😊
Hi Julie, thank you for your video. Just wanted to share with you, while watching you pour the chess set, my husband walked into the room and became very interested in what you were doing, well, to cut a long story short, he was so impressed with what you made he went and ordered the same set for me. I’ll be watching your video again and again to get all the tips you shared with us to help make sure I get it right. Thanks once again. Take care, from a UK subscriber.
Beautiful!! The extra work and effort you put into pouring in three different sections really made for one gorgeous peice
I have tried this mold twice.. Ive knocked the King over and it in turn fell into the pawns! Needless to say all the Kings knights couldn't save them.. they are back in a baggie in my mold drawer for now... 🤣
Never too long always worth it.
I love your videos. I did this chest set and I brought two sets of the chest pieces so I didn't have to wait to do the second set. I had 4 pieces that the ball broke. Thought I could glue them back on but if you do they are shorter than the other ones so I had to repour. If your going to keep the set for yourself than they will be fine. If you really look closely to the one that was repaired it is shorter. But the set is gorgeous. I learned alot. I found it easy to demold by pushing the pieces from the topof the piece while pulling the mold down.
Happy crafting.😊
❤ Set the finished mold in hot water & make them soft.. Loved every minute of the video. Thanks for sharing.. Be Blessed Always ❤
Absolutely stunning!! I love that you took the extra time to do the gold leaf on the bottom of the board. It really does add to the look. Long videos don't bother me. I enjoy watching all the steps from beginning to end. Love, love, love!!❤❤❤
WOW, so beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
I have been making these boards for a while- I started off just like what you are doing with the pen but I found that if I don't fill the squares but a slight bit under the lines, let that cure nice and hard, then put a lighter color (ideally white) as the finishing layer and let that set for a good month (yes it takes about that long to totally harden if you used the resin designed to be sturdy which i recommend) After that month I then can take resin colored in my line color, (after demolding of course!) and slowly pour or brush into the cracks, wiping as I go it will give a lovely line and it will also add to the strength of the board. I had found that if accidentally dropped, a board made like you showed will break at the squares versus when i pour the lines later. I also recommend that the board be on a completely level place while curing!! it will warp extremely easy in temperature changes even by a few degrees if not flat!
also another tip for the pieces- after the resin has cured and you have that slight dip in the bottom, you can slowly add uv resin until the bottom is flat but filled. I like to add a disk of felt when finishing them off .
I have 12 board molds and 2 sets of piece molds per board I work with so that I can keep up with the demand of the chess sets. Hubby had came up with a wooden design that the boards get placed in and it has drawers for each set of pieces and another set of drawers for matching checkers, so there are 4 drawers total and they work well. It's one of my biggest sellers!
I squeezed it when I did the pieces that helps to make that ring around the neck come out perfect.
A labor of love! It is exquisite! The gold between the squares looks like metal inlay. Love it!!! Thank you, Julie!! Take care and stay safe!
Place them in a bit of soapy water. Pull open the mold open to allow soapy water into the mold. They will slip out easily. Rub the molds with a drop of silicone oil to "rehydrate" the mold that the soap removed. Then I put them in a zipper plastic baggie overnight. They will be like new the next day.
“Get a riggle on” 😊
Turned out nicely. Patience is key, which I’m limited on. 😆
A project to be very proud of Julie. Your flair for adding that something special really shon through with the gold accents in contrast to the starkness of the black and white. Set it up in your lounge room and get Dave to refresh your Chess skills. Lovely work. 👏🏻🌺🌴
...the chess set looks amazing!!!...very well done...
Suggestion...leave the molds turned inside out after demolding...then clean them...then turn them right side out...👍
Matt
Beautiful beautiful set...great job
i can hear how proud she was when flipping the board.
great video. congratulations
i will start now myself to do something like this. inspired by you.
I'm almost finished my chess board I need to just do a topcoat on the board itself, I used mica powder for the squares, I ran out of resin lol so ill have it finished at the weekend. I just did mine in my flags colours, it's a gift for my father, I'm from Ireland btw. yours came out beautiful I love it
I love making chess sets. I have several different pieces mold that I bought off of etsy. Should take a look. They are my favorite.
Freaky I’ve JUST ordered this exact same set to make for a gift to my son, he loves chess but rarely plays it so hoping it’s a good gift. I’m going to do mine a bit different as I don’t think he’ll like the bling. So freaky I ordered this, 10 minutes later I turn on my new video of pouring your heart out and there it is. Timed it perfectly, love the gold around the edges of the squares, I’d not have done that. Thanks Julie. 💕
Such a beautiful set! Initially the pieces made me think of ivory and onyx. In my opinion black and white are timeless.
I love it, I might have trouble decanting the chess pieces with my Arthritis though, but my son loves playing chess, and wanted to teach his Fiancee to play. Might wait until I have made a few products first, I am a beginner.
Never EVER ate long. You’re videos and teaching ability is excellent!! The set is totally awesome ❤
Great job! Beautiful!!!♟
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Julie! You outdid yourself with this one! 👏🏼
I was just looking at this mold on Amazon and Temu. I love how yours turned out.
Gorgeous !!! I have just made my first chess set, in metallic gray and black, and the background in transparent 🤗 I am quite satisfied with it, because I had only done small works! Well done🫶👌
Fabulous!! I love how you made the base with the gold flake. Very high end looking. Thanks Julie 👏👍😊♟
Oh Julie this is beautiful .. I'm still very much a novice at all things resin and can't wait till the 2 moulds I ordered from your come but as I'm in Scotland they won't be here until October if it wasn't so expensive for the shipping I would have probably went overboard so it's just as well 🤣I love the look of so many of your moulds they are so different to what everyone else has out there. There are a lot of us that like to watch EVERY part of your videos heck I watch and rematch your videos especially when I'm trying new things it's very reassuring and thank you I'd eventually like to make a chess set it Black and purple with purple glitter in the black and black glitter in the purple 💜 ♟️
This chess set is gorgeous! 💖
I absolutely love this! Since you asked lol...It would look gorgeous with red foil!! Maybe you could do red foil next? And you should do more research on deep pour resin👍🏻
The pieces are gorgeous. The black and white colours are so striking. Well done on no bubbles in those pieces and just one ball breaking off the top of that pawn.
I love the pleasure you take in sharing your craft. Your videos are never too long because you make them fun.
O WOW absolutely stunning Julie , love the gold flakes 🥰
Thank you so much for this. It is spectacularly!
Great video. Thank you so much. So glad to have found you!
Julie, this is so great. I just got one as well now I can go by what you did. Thank you for sharing this with us all. Love watching you do all of the things you do and show us.
This is an easy way to remember the board set up.
Queen goes on her own color (King on opposite color)
Bishop's are the religious leaders with pointy hats. They are next to the king and queen.
Knights on horseback protect the royals and religious leaders.
Rooks man the watchtower in the corners
Pawns are the Frontline soldiers
beautiful and your videos are never to long thank you
I usually don't like the shiny stuff, but this is nice
Watching it all is part of the fun! Helps us see what to expect! My Dad was a Grand Master of chess. He would have loved this set. Thank you for bringing back happy memories for me.😊
Julie, this set is fabulously stunning. So classy. I will have to have a look at the chess mold I have to see if it will work similarly to yours. Love love it. You, dear lady are so talented. Definitely one of my top favorite artists. Thank you so much for sharing such a great idea. 💕🤗💕
Wow! That is a very beautiful chess set.
Omg I ❤ this! I can’t wait to try this in purple for my grandson
Very pretty! I hate unmolding the king and queen!!! I have snapped a few.
This is nice. Did you notice one of your Bishops is missing a top. It's shorter than the other one. Poor pawn, the queen must have said " off with his head ", lol.
Julie this is absolutely stunning, it would be a beautiful handmade gift for someone 😊
Beautiful your such an inspiration
A beautiful set! Well done! But just to say that a white square always should be in the bottom right corner as you set up the board. Also, the Queen always has the square of her own colour ... the white queen has the "middle white" square in her row, and the black Queen has the "middle black" square in hers.
Beautiful job
I love watching you. Thank you for doing this one. I've had the chess piece molds for months and haven't used them yet. You made them beautifully!
so beautiful thank you for sharing your knowledge
The chess pieces came out really nice.
Wow ❤ beautiful, thank you for doing these. I want to try, not being able to work right now. I love keeping busy and this would make great gifts. My grandson played chess in elementary he did very well. Our you going to do the checker pieces with the gold edge as well. I love watching 🙏🏾🙏🏾🥰🥰🥰🥰💕💐
Идея красивая! мне нравится прозрачная юбочка с поталью и насыщенный цвет шахмат
use a popsicle stick to push them right-side out, it really helps.
Wow that's a beautiful set. My brother's son can play with the best and beat them. He's been doing it since a child and he is now 24 years old. Beautiful Chess set. Well done
In chess the horses are called Knights the round building shape castles are called rooks the round pointed with a split in the head part are bishops.
In chess the rooks on the ends, followed by the Knights, then the bishops, black king on black square black queen on white. White is opposite squares.
Beautiful! You have inspired me to use my mold. I did watch someone put the pieces in warm water and dish soap and the pieces came out of the mold really easy
Yeah a nice top coat would make it perfect like you mentioned. Also if you made it as a functional piece instead of a show peice, felt pads can be glued onto the bottom of the peices to stop any scratches on the board surface.
Love the gold bottoms on the pieces. I’ve done a few now but never thought of that. Had a few board failures though. With squares popping out then getting bubbles underneath. 😢but love them. Yours is classy
Absolutely first class….
Ooopsy!
It's stunning. I dunno how you do it. ❤️
very beautiful, thanks for the video!
Beautiful work ❤❤❤
Fabulous. Thank you xxx
I have this set and am making it in purple and red for my son (his choice of colours). So far I have beheaded two pawns. My set only came with 6 pawns so taking even longer than yours. The board was sent folded so I am trying to get it level before even attempting to cast it.
This set is extraordinary! Marvelous job Julie. Love it to bits! Hugs :)
You outdid yourself this time~! Beautiful~!
Absolutely stunning...thank you for you videos...always a pleasure watching and learning
I actually didn't think of looking up videos of people who may have video taped them working with this mold! Duh moment I guess! LOL I bought this set last year and it is a bit intimidating to try as I am new to working with resin even though I have had resin in the home for 4 years! LOL I have made a few items but nothing like this. I watched every little mm of your video not wanting to miss anything! I was really looking forward to the unmolding. I also have the 1/2 set which I don't like. Trying to get the pieces to match up and then having to glue them is a royal pain! That's why I bought this set. The other thing I was worried about is the molds standing up on their own. It's good to see that they do but I think I will place them in a square container to make sure they don't fall over. Just in case. Thank you for such a wonderful and enjoyable video! These turned out so beautifully!
What a gorgeous chess set! I love it! I have a mold that I have not used yet and now I have an idea on how to make it. Thank you for the great tutorial!
Beautiful
I did one for my son in law, used royal blue and white. He's a Duke University fan, their colors are blue and white. A very satisfying job, right?? I love the gold leaf. Beautiful.
Wow very nice chess ♟ pieces. Absolutely love the way your colors turned out. Gold is perfect on the edges.
So beautiful
I really, really love your chess set. And I was never taught how to play, but always wanted to learn. Maybe my sister will teach me. But you put the gold flakes exactly where I would've done. Soooooo pretty.💋🥰🥰🥰🥰🌟🌟🌟🌟🐾🐾🐾🦃🐾🐾🌟🌟🌟🥰🥰🥰🥰🌟🌟🐾🐾🐾
Stunning!
WOW!! That’s exquisite! Thanks for including all the instructional details. You have inspired me to try this, after I rewatch this one. Very nice, congratulations! All your hard work paid off 👍
Beautiful!
Beautiful!! I love the gold with the black and white! ❤
Lovely creation
Fantastic! I love watching everything and learning along with you.
My board fell apart as I pulled the mold off, no matter how carefully I pulled it off.
The chess pieces, I set in small cups so they would not fall over.
Wish you had a link to the board you made this one with.
Also, soak the pieces in warm soapy water for easier unmolding. Works wonders, and Oreos then for next color. Or use a resin release spray, alcohol will eat away your molds.
One year later, but... you said soak the resin chess pieces in warm soapy water and... "Oreos" for the next color. What's Oreos? I only know the cookie by that name.
Very beautiful
Beautiful would look good clear with flowers in pieces
