This crafting system is very similar to Star Wars Galaxies crafting system, which was far and away the best crafting system in any MMO that I have played. It is complicated, but the rewards of it are well worth it. It will be a huge reason for the exploration game loop, it will make crafters important in the game and open up playstyles for just about every kind of player out there. Building the best gear will require a dedicated effort from the guys who chose to be crafters, and create a demand for the materials needed to make the economy flow. This was a brilliant idea from CIG.
I can really see myself getting into these systems and having more of a reason to log in more often and I think if you find a rare blueprint and are not into crafting you could sell it to another player before claiming it by selling the data pad it’s on
Refining blueprints are going to go deeper than just giving better or more yields. Refining is also going to be about combining metals and other elements in specific measures to give better, stronger materials. That is what was referenced in the video when he was saying better blueprints give you better materials. Had nothing to do with better yields. Think about it, there is top grade steel and then there is China steel. It has to do with how the iron is processed, what amounts of things like carbon and other metals are added, as well as the quality of those elements, when they are added and how they are smelted that yield stronger steel.
Am I the only one looking further from the initial crafting things? I mean if all this will Be in 1.0 imagine how much bigger can become in later patches.
I get so excited for crafting, I'm happy they are moving to a system like this. I'm going to be looking towards mining and refining as my primary specialties. How about you Z?
This could be my thing. I really wonder what the blueprint maps look like. Which items are locked behind what reputation? If my org pledges to the council, will I ever qualify for that tier 3 FS-9?
I disagree with blueprints being found randomly everywhere. I love the industrial side of space games and games in general and tend to mine and build, loved doing that in EVE back in the day. And if we were supposed to be specializing, how is it a good thing to have Joe Bumfuck Merc get a rare awesome high on the meta build list weapon blueprint when I'm the industrialist that specialized in weapons manufacturing. Now he is making more money on weapon sells than me just because he opened a box and he is now 1 of 100 people in game that can make that weapon while I'm 1 of 5000 weapons manufacturing specialist. It should be a physical item than a merc or salvager or whoever can sell to or should sell because they should be able to manufacture anything as those types of characters. EVE's system works pretty good, but I'm not saying SC needs use EVE's system. But without skills like EVE how do you block a fighter jock or foot soldier merc from being a bad ass industrialist just because they found a rare blueprint verses the person who has been an industrialist since launch. That is one of the things that turned me off in New World. Everybody can be every harvester and crafter so no body was really special. Nobody came to me for meat hide and leather armor because everybody and their mom can harvest and make it.
@ so after death of a spaceman will we lose the blueprints? If not then that’s great but I don’t want to lose the blueprints just because some guy camped me one day and I have to create a whole new character and relearn everything that I worked on. It’s too much loss.

I see a lot of good things about SWG and totally agree! :)

Yeah, I hope we can sell/trade unclaimed blueprints. I'm not interested in making guns, so I'd love to trade these for industrial items.
Yes I assume so but I hope CIG talks about how to claim them in more detail

Oh yes recipes to make special materials would be huge great point!

Oh yes CIG will keep working on this and it can become very deep
Thanks for the video

Oh yes this is going to be one of my primary trades to make components and maybe have a little salvage yard
I think one and only thing that will change SC forever is when it will work
Can we still call it star citizen if it's isn't a broken buggy mess?
This could be my thing. I really wonder what the blueprint maps look like. Which items are locked behind what reputation? If my org pledges to the council, will I ever qualify for that tier 3 FS-9?
Yeah this will really make the game feel more in depth :)

Character bond blueprints or Account bond? Death of a spaceman means my character DIES. It matters which one.
Both???

This is a really good question but I think it will be something that we get for paying inheritance tax
