I run a d&d game for a few family members. Two of the players are my brother's and one is playing an Echo Knight. He has surprised the table every session since day one. 3 level 3 trying to fight a troll. Only one player has any acid or fire damage. They're whittling it down but I didn't think it would turn out in their favor until his turn comes around and he declares after a moment "I'm gonna hit this troll 5 times" then procedes to blow his action surge and every use of Unleash Incarnation (+3 Con). I couldn't find anything that sad he couldn't use multiple charges in one use so I allowed it. It was a awesome moment at the table
Holy shit man! Amazing video. Gained a subscriber. I thought i was watching a huge youtuber with the quality of the video but only 300 subs. Im proud to join
awesome video , so flavorfull and the information is presented in such a clear way, i love the idea to develop character builds from concepts instead of just pure power, so cool
Great video! I've been trying to find people talking about builds using a spear, but having some difficulties. I think spear fighting in this setting is just so fitting as in rp, but for whatever reason I always get hung up on the damage die being lower, as well as lacking something like reach.
I had the same problem! Ultimately I decided with this build to just lean on the roleplay factor for the spear but the subclass choice plus the feats do still allow you to pack a punch. WOTC did release an Unearthed Arcana in 2016 that had a feat that boosted the damage of the Spear with some other benefits. If your table allows UA then it is very easy to just slot that feat into this build.
Just found your video and channel for the first time. Loved how you presented the information awesome job. You now have new sub and can't wait to watch more of your work.
Wow. Nice build advice. I'm playing a Warforged fighter in Eberron who I have been envisioning with a little Spartan flavor. I've been back and forth on what archetype to use between Samurai and something like Cavalier or Purple Dragon Knight. Then I read through the Echo Knight and I'm sold as a Flash fan (Season 2 Zoom). This video brings all of the concepts I want to use together in a way I hadn't yet considered. Thanks a lot.
I'd like Your take on an Artificer or Forge Cleric in Baldur's Gate from the High House of Wonders. Really great character concept, I can't wait to see the next one.
Since it was revealed Theros was gonna have a Leonin race I've been wanting to make a Leonin Echo Knight, (don't know why. it just sounded cool) but I've just been struggling to find a theme to run with and you just gave me something perfect. Thank you.
I’m planning to make use of an Echo Knight and the new Dhampir Lineage released with Van Richten’s Guide, so I’m looking over this video for the idea of how to build such a character when I play him.
I am playing a spartan styled dex fighter with a Finesse spear, Medium armour master, polearm master and the spear is actually a reskinned longsword but can't be thrown.
Ya, I really don't think you need a shield in this build. Unless you're really just leaning in for flavor. The Echo Knight is very good at never getting hit. You can run low AC and take twf or gwm and do absurd damage through your echo while you're 30' away. If an enemy tries to approach you, the echo gets a sentinel attack. If they miss, you can just bonus action swap and play keep away all day. Echo Knight is perfect for building a melee glass cannon, take 2 levels of barb for reckless (who cares if they have advantage to hit your echo) and go to town.
Nice build! I made a hoplite using the Eldritch Kinght, but the magics i asked the GM to be like normal things, like when i use shield, i protect myself behind the shield, or catapult where i trhow the spear
You got the second part of polearm master completely wrong. It doesn't expand the reach of your attacks of opportunity. Simply wielding a weapon with reach does that. Just as the feat states, enemies allow you to make an attack of opportunity when they ENTER your reach rather than only when they leave your reach.
For this character, I’d build him as a Tabaxi with the “Iconoclast” gift and the “Leonin” language. The idea is to make a Tabaxi orphan who was raised in one of the Leonin Prides in hopes of becoming the next Leader of the Pride.
Love the Video, very nice Idea for an Akroan Crusader(one of my favorite Theros cards). Did they errata Polearm Master, I thought the spear is not part of it?
Do you take requests? I am trying to make a character who focuses on turning things into other thing in anyway they can. Physically, magically, and illusions. Living, dead, non-living. Animate, inanimate. ALL THINGS that they can.
You will be utilizing your bonus action pretty much every turn for your echo so the attacks from pole arm master and shove from the shield feat will be wasted
The attacks from the Echo Knight don't use your Bonus Action. They only trigger off whether you use your Action to make an Attack to allow your echo to make a melee attack. The thing that limits the Echo's attacks is that you can only do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier. So your Bonus Action should be free up after you summon your Echo.
@@DungeoneersPack yep, my point is that you will be using your bonus action to manifest echo or teleport every turn to get the most out of the subclass, I think taking feats that don't use you bonus action and add damage or utility in other ways would be more beneficial, but that's my opinion, thx for the response
Are you sure the Unleash Incarnation feature of the Echo Knight triggers from the Polearm Master Bonus Action attack?
If I wasn't clear I apologize. Unleashed Incarnation will always trigger off your Attack Action.
@@DungeoneersPack I love that you “like” every comment, and answer all questions. ❤️
@@alanschaub147 Thank you! I do read everything and try to respond in some form.

Talk to your DM, there's always ways to reflavour other weapons if they are ok with it.

War Glaive. Can be thrown, but no ammo :P

I'm running into this problem.... I want a spear and shield for the flavor, but it's so tempting to just go GWM and attack from far away as an EK.

Satyr isn't a language. You are thinking of Sylvan

I had a player be an ancestral barbarian who was a spartan
300 for days in this setting!
