I'm not sure, but they're pretty big. The customer already had the engine in here with the headers, I just tuned the carb and ignition and fixed some other issues.
I just bought my first truck 454ss but it has motor 496 it turned on when I went and got it but when I got home I wasn’t able to bring it down from the dolly I already changed the spark plugs but it still won’t turn on, it’s my first big motor and I have no recognition of those kinds of motors. Are you able to help me with that kind of motor?
Yes, sorry it took so long to respond. I so busy working, I just post these videos I don't respond to comments much but I should be doing that. We can fix anything.
Yup, no shade on Good Guys whatsoever, but that sounds awful up front. Out back is a different story. Driving down the road, that slap will drive you nuts, find it---fix it.
We didn't build the engine. Our motors are perfect. The customer had already bought the motor built by another company I won't mention the name because I don't like to throw people under the bus. But I heard the noises immediately upon starting it. I was contracted to hook some things up, tune the motor, a bunch of odds and ends to get it drivable. I put in digital gauges and did a bunch of top quality electrical work. The tune was spot on. I informed the customer he should have brought the engine back, sounded like a noisy main bearing or top of a rod. All the valves were good and all cylinders had 180 lbs of compression.
@@GoodGuysAutomotiveLakemoor Yeah, it could be nothing at all. It's a killer setup either way and some nice work. I wonder how the 4 door is holding up to BB punishment? Any full throttle starts must be twisting it pretty good. Hey, it's only metal!!
@@GoodGuysAutomotiveLakemoor No doubt, thanks for the replies. Planning a mild NO2 setup for my 79 Caprice this Spring. Finally got a decent suspension setup front and rear (after 15 years) and I can literally throw it into turns now, it's pretty hilarious. If I am ever in Cal., I will check you guys' shop out.
Yeah I hear some valvetrain noise and I think what might be some bearing noise on the bottom. I didn't build the engine, I'm just helping the guy get it tuned.
I would not have used a carb. I'm a firm believer in fuel injection now aways. Lide is good just did a 496 in a restored pickup an went with fuel injection
I hooked up the engine, fuel system, electrical, installed dakota digital gauges and rewired everything, tuned it I think the guy spent $8000. The engine and trans and exhaust were already installed. Not the way I would have done it but it was there.
It would have been a nice build but a lot was wrong with it. I didn't build the car or motor, I was tasked with getting everything working and I did that very nicely. 496 is a trick motor to build right. Many try, few succeed. There are clearance issues when you go that big, this one had bearing and valve train issues. You'd be surprised how a few thou of an inch can make a difference.
I used to think like that too, but as I get older I don't care as much. 4 doors are easier to get people in and out of the car, and if you do the body and paint right nobody will even notice how many doors it has. The 1955 Chevy as the home picture for my you tube channel is a 4 door and nobody has ever mentioned it.
@@GoodGuysAutomotiveLakemoor 4 doors are Ok for some people but my preference has been and always will be 2 door cars. UNLESS.........it's a wagon. And I don't mean the bloated SUVs we see today. I'm talking about the wagons from 1980 back>>>
That Thang a monster man it's nice that LS a beast I need that setup in my 93
Damn my grandma would've loved that car😊
Sleeper? That thing will wake the dead...
When the engine costs more than the car
And it’s a crew cab! 🤣🤣
I know right ✅️ 😩
Do you know how much a Caprice sells for in mint condition? Lol
Many times over but ohhhh man what a sleeper!
Whats up with the valvetrain noise??
Yeah I hear the noise too. I didn't build the engine so we're not getting into that at this time.
These monster need efi system 👌
For sure, I don't know why anyone would want to tinkle around with adjustment screws....like a weed whacker.

What’s causing it to make that sort of like “whip” sound when gas pedal is being pressed ?
What brand of front serpentine?
What headers did you use
What headers did you use?
Customer already had the headers installed. They didn't fit right so I wouldn't recommend them whatever they were.
Gawd damn 🤦🏾♂️ dats a monster boy yes sir
Do you guys like the TCI trans controller for the 4L80E? Building a similar setup in my '66 Impala SS and haven't decided what controller to go with.
It was OK. I normally use US Shift.
Sounds sick
What headers did u use ? I can't find any that fit right 😂
probably chevelle headers a body
Did you have to do any adjustments or cuttings in the inner fenders while mounting the engine!?
I'm not sure, I didn't mount the engine but I don't think so. I was hired to hook it up and tune it.
What gas it’s running off
Just Premium Gas
Sounds hell good bro 👌
Thanks!
What headers you got on there

Holy shit 😂
How much
Sleepers don’t sound like that lol it has the look but the sound is a dead giveaway lol
It did have a nice custom 3 inch dual exhaust all the way back.
How much you guys charge
120/Hr as many hours as it takes + parts.

Have same motor in box 😮😮

I can do either, carbs are fine if you know how to set them up right. Out of the box they are not usually set up for your particular application.

Yeah my recording equipment isn't top notch. If you listen to it on a computer with big speakers and a sub you can get a better listen.
Should have run four mufflers with a remote controlled dump valve.
