    Love your collection of pen and ink combos. I like how you don't feel confined to using matching ink to pen colors. BTW, Shigure is "she-goo-rlay" - 3 syllables. "R" sounds are a combination R+L sound blended, not a hard "R" sound. You pronounced it well in one of your "Shikiori" descriptions. You said, "rlee" 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. P.S. For pen fixing, you could try the srebrown video on micromeshing. It accomplishes the months of wear that helps the pen like you better in like 5-10 minutes but you have to accept a certain amount of risk that it can go wrong, so only do on a nib you’re not that attached to.

    For the one that is not writing I would send it to a nibmeister at the New York Pen Hospital. It might have some dry ink under the nib, or need a tuning. If you go to a pen show they can tune your pen with you sitting at the table.. thanks for the video..

    I have seen the most inconsistent nib sizing from LAMY. The “same” nib size will be different. I was ready to throw mine out because of flow problems. I switched to Private Reserve Infinity inks and it seems to have helped a lot. The Platinum Carbon Black is a thick ink and your feed might need something a little thinner. Platinum makes different inks so you could try that but I have found my Pilot inks to be very good in almost every pen (LAMY not included). I really enjoyed this video.

      Thanks for the info, Jayce! The inconsistent nibs can be so frustrating! I’ve noticed the same thing with Kaweco, too. And you’re right about the Platinum Carbon Black. My favorite inks so far have been from the Pilot Iroshizuku line. Thanks for watching!

    For the Platinum 3776 Soft fine, if the other helpful advice from Colin Chan doesnt work it might be the ink. Platinum carbon ink is a pigmented ink that takes a certain feed to be able to work with it. I hope this helps a bit :)

      Thanks for the tip! I didn’t realize pigment inks would behave different in the feed but that makes perfect sense. Beautiful case and pens! Inks too! I’ll tell you my experience has been dryer inks affect the size of my penstrokes sometimes more than the nib sizes do. A lot of reviewers of inks do fancy tests to show how each ink performs in different nibs, but I don’t have the initiative to be testing pens before I fill them, so I just make a mental note not to ever put certain ink back in a given pen if I find it giving me issues. I have one pen that if I combine it with one ink I bought, it looks like I’m writing with a teal sharpie. No lie. Fine nib. 😯 Fortunately I love it when it does that, so I keep that ink in there all the time now. 😄

    Hey! If you want an EF for your Prera, you can buy a Pilot Kakuno EF (which is cheap, around the same price as a replacement nib for a Safari or Kaweco), and just swap the nibs. The Kakuno and Prera use the same nibs and feeds. But the Kakuno has smiley faces on the nibs

    You might want to consider getting an Edison Beaumont. Edison's extra fine nibs write a very thin line. The Beaumont does post. Also, for pens that are a little scratchy you can often smooth them out using a piece of micro-mesh from Goulet Pens. It doesn't cost much and is much cheaper than replacing a nib. I hope you continue to enjoy your fountain pen journey! ✒️😃

    Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I never get tired of watching fountain pen collection videos! My Mom was a leftie, and she had the weirdest grip and manner of writing to prevent smearing of ink! BUT, she also had beautiful, distinctive handwriting because of her peculiar method! Every time I watch a Fountain Pen Collection video, I see pens that I also have (Kawecos, TWSBIs,) and also pens I will NEVER have (Pilots and Lamys,) and I think it is so funny how this hobby generates such quirkiness in each of us! I have learned SO MUCH from You Tubers! Thanks for sharing! (Also, I will never be able to post a video of my pens because I have really ugly hobbit hands and terrible fingernails. This is super helpful. I have ECOs in EF, F, and M. I have a gift card and thinking of buying one of the rose gold Diamond 580s.
    My favorite nib is my Eco fine. Do you think I should go with the Rose Gold Diamond F or the EF? Which would be closest to the ECO fine in your opinion? Thanks so much!
    Also, how is the Rose Gold part of the pen holding up?

    • @MartinMadeCo
      @MartinMadeCo  Год назад

      Hi Tammy! The rose gold is holding up great! No discoloration or anything. Looks just like new.
      In my experience, the Diamond 580 nibs seem to be a bit finer than the ECO nibs. So if you love the ECO F, you might actually find the 580 M comparable, especially with a drier ink. I don’t have an ECO F to say for sure, but my ECO EF is pretty identical to my 580 F. I think you could honestly go either way, depending on whether you favor a bolder line or a thinner line. All of my TWSBI nibs are super smooth, too, no matter what thickness they are. Hope this helps!

    HELLO!! I really enjoyed your pen collection video with my coffee this morning. We have a lot of the same taste in pens, I think I have 5-6 of the same pens in my collection. I would love to do a video on my collection- some day! I have a few TWSBI pens too, and they are really great- very consistent! The next pen on my wishlist is a Pilot Elite 95s. I have seen a few videos on it and it appears to have a really nice nib on it. I like broad nibs best- German pens have broader/juicy nibs compared to Japanese pens. So I gravitate towards Lamy, Kaweco, Pelikan etc. I look forward to seeing more of your videos :)

    Thank you, thank you, thank you (and your nephew, Rocky) SO MUCH for the video! I'm one of the people who requested it. I've watched another fountain pen video from "Life as Me" but she didn't do the inks, just the pens (she also said Pilot Vanishing Point was her fave - that one I'll have to wait on a bit; it's pricey!). Thank you for including the inks - I'll have to try a few from Goulet - luckily they have those samplers! I have always used just one - J. Herbin, Encre Poussiere de Lune - it's a deep burgundy purple but I don't think it's archival since I've gone back and looked at old journals (or my daughter has) and it's very hard to read because it's faded over the years. It's time to branch out and explore the world of color in inks, LOL.
    I have two sterling silver pens with 18k gold nibs that are temperamental buggers so I don't use them - I can't remember their brands either I've had them 20+ years. They were gifts. That one pen, the Platinum Century, that you have so many problems with, I had the same problems with those two pens, the nib is just too soft for my writing style AND they would do the same thing with the scratchy and inkless after just using them too. I wonder if the nib on your Century is also a gold one?
    Again, thanks so much and Happy Holidays!

    • @MartinMadeCo
      @MartinMadeCo  2 года назад

      You’re so very welcome Cie! You really did push me to go ahead and film it, and I’m so glad it helped you! You’re right, the century nib is 14K so maybe you’re on to something. And yes, the ink is archival. That’s the word I was searching for! That DeAtramentis Document ink line has a lot of really nice colors if you like to go beyond basic black. And here’s hoping someone treats you to a pilot vanishing point for the holidays 🤞🏾 It really does live up to all the hype!

    Happy to hear your thoughts on the Vanishing Point's fine nib. I feel our writing preferences are similar and I've been tempted to get a VP.
    You mentioned wishing the Pilot Prera came in EF, but I actually find Pilot's steel EF nib a little too scratchy. Certainly more than my Kaweco EF. If the Prera uses the same feed as the Kakuno, you may be able to get one and swap it with the Prera's nib. If you don't like the smiley face on the Kakuno's nib, there's also the Pilot DPP 70 with an EF, but they're not as common.
    I have a Platinum Preppy in their finest nib (02). While I overall like Pilot as a brand more, I find this Platinum nib more comfortable to write with and it's only slightly wider than the Pilot EF.
    I think the third retractable pen you were thinking of is probably the Lamy Diaolog and that the word at 32:21 was archival :)
    I've heard Platinum Carbon Black is a good archival ink. I think it's the next I'll try.

  • @TheUndecidedFrog
    @TheUndecidedFrog 2 года назад

    Hi, your Platinum 3776 soft fine nib isn't performing well probably due to your writing angle. As you're a lefty, I noticed you have a more vertical alignment of the nib against the paper. For a better experience try to lessen the verticality, you may find that the ink will flow better, and the soft nib will bounce slightly against the paper. If this doesn't work, try flushing out your pen and check under magnification if your nib is not misaligned.

    • @MartinMadeCo
      @MartinMadeCo  2 года назад

      Thanks Colin! This is extremely helpful. I’ll try inking it with a wetter ink and adjusting my grip. If that doesn’t work, I’ll take a closer look at the nib.
