- The graffiti that covers 27 floors of an abandoned skyscraper is still causing nearby residents and law enforcement officials major headaches. Illicit activity surrounding Oceanwide Plaza has increased significantly since it was vandalized late last month, with more vandals, partiers and even BASE jumpers heading to the site of what some taggers called “L.A. graffiti history.” The latest video to go viral surrounding the derelict luxury complex that sits on 12th and Flower streets depicts individuals BASE jumping from the top of the building; other videos show vandals inching along the exterior edge of the building hundreds of feet in the air with no safety equipment.

Because the graffitied towers were visible in the background of the Grammys outdoor reception and embarrassed LA worldwide, whereas common people being victims of smash and grab crime is easier to sweep under the rug and not Kevin DeLeon's problem.

The issue is it's not their building to tag though. Abandoned or not. No one has the right to jack up something that doesn't belong to them. Entitlement doesn't just apply to those with money who don't think the rules apply to them. One tagger said it's how they express themselves. Then head out to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Promenade with a massive stretched piece of canvas and go to town instead of ruining something that doesn't belong to you. Some one might even buy your work.

Construction for Oceanwide Plaza on the 1100 block of Flower Street was halted in 2019 when the Chinese developers who had initially planned for condos, a mall and a hotel, ran out of funding. Since work stopped, the uninhibited complex of empty towers became an attraction for graffiti artists
