Saturday Night Wrist is probably the one that i listen the most, it is so dreamy, so electronic and experimental, but remaining so melodic and unforgettable. Not sure is my best, but it is so good and unfairly underrated. A+ for me without any doubt.
I could only get into two songs on that album. Cherry Waves, and Rats!Rats!Rats! The album was apparently recorded during some conflicts within the band happening. You can kind of tell, as most of the songs really lack something.
@@pacomarveeny9640 yeah it was just ok OK when it came out.(without following the deftones drama) But just last year it just grew on me sooo efffinn much. Rivière is equally as great as be quite. one of my favorite albums so far. A+ for me.
"Deftones is a band that in the last year has quickly become one of my favorite bands of all time. I absolutely love their music." You and me both, Molly. You and me both.
I get a little teary-eyed when I see someone gush over Around the Fur. That's my favorite album of all time, and I agree that it's beyond perfect! *highfive*
Great series, Molly. You really paid attention to every single song of each album and that's beyond what most people do. Your comments are pure, raw impressions similar to how most people access music, which keeps it familiar, yet deep. I followed every video in this series (and some other you are also doing) and I am very pleased with what i've seen. Deftones is very close to my heart, mind and soul and I really think you honored the band. Thank you for doing it and for sharing it. Salud!
Wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed all of the Deftones videos. I'm so happy that I finally discovered their music, there's really nothing exactly like it. They pour so much energy, emotion and atmosphere into each and every album and it makes them all so unique and special in their own way. And knowing that you're a Deftones fan your comment means a lot, it's so cool that longtime fans of the band are getting something out of these videos :)
I agree with you David. It's pretty cool watching a new Deftones fan being born on RUclips. I hope we all get to hear Eros someday soon. And I can't wait to see Deftones for the 9th time live when they come to Chicago with Gojira in May 🤘
As a Deftones fan since you were probably a toddler, I think your ranking is spot on. I'm so happy watching your experience listening through their catalog. If you havent, I hope you get to see them live someday.
Opinions are like assholes, we all have one and i have to say, i think this is a terrible rankings. First off lets just clarify this. No Deftones album is an A+. IMO an A+ album is one of those very rare things to find. Its one of those albums that you listen to all the way through and you don't skip songs. Then even if you become so familiar with the album that you will skip songs, those songs you do skip are still like... A- B+ in how good they are. Examples of this would be Master of Puppets, Dirt, Jar of Flies, Far Beyond Driven, Vulgar, Aenima, the Chronic+2001, Doggystyle, Dark side of the Moon, 4, 3, Meddle, D'Angelo/Voodoo, etc. And i don't get that from any Deftones album... now on to the rankings. If we take Pony and Around the Fur and kick those down one to A. Cool. Adrenaline and self titled, move them up to B. These are their four best albums, hands down and the conflict i have with them is Adrenaline has more songs on it that i enjoy compared to Pony and Fur, but the fewer songs on Fur and Pony, are better than on Adrenaline. If this is all making sense. For C we will put Diamond Eyes and Gore. Then the rest go in D.
@@undergrounddojokeyboardcag701 Adrenaline easily their worst album and there are very few who would disagree so you lost all credibility there pal - they sound like a garage band compared to anything else they put out
@@danswat2979 This is utterly untrue. If you were young when Adrenaline came out then it was something special and remains that today. If you came to deftones late, then I get that you might not have the same connection to the record, but don't get it twisted and start calling it their worst album. It towers over stuff like Ohms or Saturday Night Wrist.
@@damionchrist Haha right? I heard "Bored" on JBTV and "Teething" on the Crow 2 soundtrack. My brother and I were in a Camelot looking for something new and I go "Around the Fur? I dunno, that one Bored song was cool?" BAM, been obsessed since then. Played ATF while playing FF7. When the hidden tracks came on I almost shit myself.
Koi is definitely the flawless A+ album for me, not a single weak track from start to finish. Around the Fur and White Pony are full of bangers but have 1 or 2 tracks that don't stack up to the rest so they would be A for me. I think the self titled has more enjoyable tracks than SNW so I would swap those around then drop both their ranks (I was pleased you mentioned Kimdracula for SNW, absolutely slaps!!). I agree with you on the ranking of Gore but there is a few hidden gems in there like (L)MIRL whhich has a really sweet build up. Lastly I think Ohms was a huge step up and I rate it as high as an A for sure, I love how the whole album ends on the title track, wraps it up really well.
Gore is amazing front to back. Not one bad song. Criminally underrated and my favorite album. The way the album ends with Phantom Bride into Rubicon is perfection.
From someone who has been listening to Deftones for 25 years...this video gave me chills. What a timeless band. You did a great job with this. I loved your commentary, and the craziest thing is, your ranking is nearly identical to mine--the only difference for me is that I like White Pony more than Around the Fur. Great video!
I got Around the Fur one week before I started basic training for the Army. I was able to listen to it enough to store it in my head during that time when I wasn't allowed to listen to music. It got me through basic training. It's my favorite album of all time
Congrats on hitting 10k+ and climbing Molly, this is the perfect way to cap off your Deftones journey and for what it's worth as a longtime fan of the band I fully agree with your ranking- while I love Adrenaline (heck, my username is named for the song Root) my first time hearing the band was on 'Around the Fur' and that sound was so unique and vivid that's what got me originally hooked. Looking forward to seeing Deftones live again for the 10th time, check if they'll be in your area US dates are around April-May they put on an incredible show!
Thanks for the comment, glad to hear that you feel the same way about Around The Fur. What an album! I'll definitely have to see Deftones live sometime, I'm sure they're amazing!
She certainly deserves every one of those 10k subscriber. It's a lot of work doing whole albums with all of the editing involved to bring the content. That is hard work for her to do for us subscribers. It is highly appreciated.
Although Diamond Eyes was the first Deftones record after Chi’s passing, this is my personal favourite. They were coming off Saturday Night Wrist and “Deftones”, LPs I don’t hate, but Chino has publicly lambasted them, and they did start recording Eros with Chi before the tragedy, and I always wonder had that album came out, would we have had a Diamond Eyes. Your list is good nonetheless.
I have the first 4 albums signed by them... I met them in Portugal in 2003 in a gig here. I have Adrenaline, Around The Fur, White Pony and Deftones signed by all of them, including Chi, of course (RIP). I am 40 yo and Deftones have always been a part of my musical life. Long live the Tones!!
Really nice tier list, my opinion is on par with mostly everything you've said! I do think that Koi no Yokan deserves to be an A+ tho. I might say too, Diamond Eyes sometimes also feels like an A+ for me but it highly depends of the mood and mindset, an A for it is pretty solid. Other than that my vision and feels for all the albums alligns quite well with your view. This whole journey of you through their discography was very very cool, really nice reactions and thoughts all around, a pretty neat video format too, that's a great channel for sure! Thank you for your good content, looking forward to see what you're gonna react or review next!
Glad you enjoyed all of the Deftones content! They're such an amazing band and I'm glad I've finally been introduced to their music. I totally agree on how my feelings toward each album really do change a lot based on my mood, my ranking kinda shifts around a bit.
Having listened to Deftones since the early 2000's I love hearing your fresh thoughts on them. It actually reminds me to get back to listening. Around the Fur is my favorite as well!
Diamond eyes has always been a favorite of mine, I grew up hearing it, it’s not my favorite just for nostalgia, but the vocals are just so gorgeous. Beauty School is definitely my favorite.
This video made me do a deep dive on Deftones. I'm in my mid 40s and grew up listening to them here and there, but only owned a few albums. Now that I've spent the past few weeks immersing myself in all things Deftones, I think "Koi No Yokan" is my favorite. I'm currently (as I write this) listening to "Gore" and also REALLY like it. "Diamond Eyes" is also amazing. I think I like the spacy-Deftones the best... Either way, thanks.
Glad I inspired you to dive further into their music! I love their outer-spacey atmospheric stuff a lot too, Koi No Yokan especially shines with that aspect of their sound.
This ranking is incredible and the way you assess each album is so in-depth, I love it. I feel like Gore would be MILES better if the production and mixing was better. The drums sound like tin cans and the guitars sound blurry and fuzzy, but I really like what they did with Chino’s voice. I just love how each album has a very distinct sound. I could never rank them myself because of how my teenage brain craves certain music at different times, but that’s why I love Deftones. There’s always a song or album that will scratch the itch on my brain, and I haven’t found that to happen with ANY other band or artist. So thank you for this rating lol, I know it was a while ago.
Thanks so much!! I'm happy you enjoyed the video, it was so so difficult to rank Deftones entire discography because as you pointed out each record is so unique and they all have their own distinct sound and style. It's what I love about this band, they always try out new stuff with their sound and keep things fresh.
Hello, I just discovered your channel today and I had to subscribe. Just finished watching all of your Deftones and Slipknot album reactions, two of my favorite bands, and I must say I really love your reactions and commentary on their music. And you're very articulate, thoughtful, clearly do you research as you go through their discography. Also, pretty solid album rankings. Excellent videos, keep it up!
Really enjoyed your mini dissection of every album! I haven't listened to all of Deftones' discography just yet, I've fully listened to three albums so far, and have played a few songs from every other album...but cannot WAIT to hear the rest of it. :-D ♥️REALLY liked hearing you talk about Diamond Eyes, aka my favorite album from them hahhaaaaa. And Tempest is probably my all-time favorite song of theirs, then You've Seen The Butcher. I doubt any others will top those but we'll see ;3 💨
Oooh, Tempest and You've Seen The Butcher are both AMAZING!!! I'm glad you're getting into their discography, I'm sure you'll get addicted pretty quick, as I have haha.
Thanks! And yes, Diamond Eyes is a fantastic album. Honestly can't believe it's #4 on my list when I'd consider it perfect, but I guess that's Deftones for you.
Loving your reviews! You don’t have that music snob critiques on albums, You are awesome molly glad you are enjoying deftones music and keep up the great work.
Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers!! Switch Koi No Yokan and a White pony and your list is pretty much the same as mine would be 😉 .. I also love when you name your favorite tracks because more times then not, they are all the best tracks... Great video 🔥
Pretty good rankings. Around the Fur is the album i first heard in 1997. The impact of that record changed the course of my musical career. Seeing you rank it number one made me smile. Ive gotten into many arguments about whether this is their best album. It is. Thankyou for your rankings
Glad that you agree! Around The Fur is such a fantastic album, as much a I LOVE their entire discography this one just hits different. Can't quite explain it but it's got a touch of everything that I love about Deftones.
Currently working on getting their whole discography on vinyl. Been a long time fan since the self titled days when my brother got me into them. Keep in mind it was in 2003 when I was 9 years old. I totally agree with your tier list. You have a great taste in music.
Absolutely fantastic review of Deftones! I agree with you that Deftones entire catalog is outstanding, but a ranking is a ranking, and your knowledge about all the songs and backgrounds of the albums was awesome to hear! I had never heard of your channel before this, but you have now gained another subscriber. I hope your channel takes off. You deserve it 👏
Adrenaline is so underrated. I usually don't love the raspy, rough production sound that those types of albums have, but every single song is a rush. My favorite still has to be Diamond Eyes though.
Adrenaline isn't really underrated. A lot of people absolutely love it. At the time it came out, it was some of the best stuff out there. But if you compare it to what Deftones have made after, it's lacking.
Man I do love Adrenaline and it killed me ranking it second to last... it's just their later stuff is soooo good. Adrenaline is a fantastic debut for them though, such great energy on that album!
It really is a difficult task with ranking their albums so props on that! Each album they just deliver something you won't forget. Adrenaline was full blown nu metal and their most raw. ATF is their quintessential sound, but it wasn't until like White Pony where they starting reaching what you can say is the well known Deftones sound. S/T was alright. Love the darker sound but not as heavy as previous ones. SNW guitar sound, theme, and atmosphere all around is still my favorite to date. Thought DE was okay and it was more optimistic in the sound. I anticipated the release of Koi No Yokan at the time so played the heck out of that all winter 2012-2013. It was a really cleanly, produced album. Rosemary instantly became like one of the top 3 songs from them. Never got around to listening to Ohms and Gore completely so still need to check them out.
Yeah, the distinct tonal qualities that they put on each of their albums is so special. I love that no matter the mood I'm in or whatever I'm craving musically there's a Deftones album for it.
Are you kidding about the S/T? That is one of their heaviest albums. The Bloody Cape breakdown is insane! Hexagram, and When Girls Telephone Boys are also super heavy. Plus that was the first album (that I know of) where they switched to 7 string guitars which is automatically heavy lol.
You've done this ranking EXACTLY the way I would, so it's good to know someone shares the same taste in their discography ;) Especially since the albums on both A and A+ ranking on the awesomeness scale are so similar to each other that it's really hard to pick the best one among them. They're so unique that even though I've only been listening to Deftones for a few years, it feels like their songs have been with me throughout all my life. Great video!
For me self titled album is one of my favorite albums of all time. So needless to say it's my fave Deftones album. It really pushes you towards listening to Team Sleep.
Great ranking! Around the Fur also holds a special place in my heart. It was the first Deftones album I bought way back in 97 (the week it came out.) I have since seen them 6 times from 1999 to present.
Never really heard of this channel before but let me just say you really hit the review out of the park for the most part for me. I am glad you appreciated Koi so much , I know a lot of people are mixed on that album. I am slightly sad about Gore because Gore is the album in my mind that reminds of me of a family of many children, but there's just a child slightly different than others, and once you really get to know that kid you realize , damn I wish I gave this a lot more attention. Again that's why we all have opinions, but you basically reviewed this the way I would which is no surprise as to why I am commenting on this.
That would be a very fitting ranking for Deftones! All of their albums have something very special to them. It would have made for a boring ranking video though, haha :p
Cool video. I subscribed. I've been a fan for almost 20 years now. I used to have ATF and Pony as my top 2 as well. My current ranking: 1. Deftones - 8 2. KNY - 8 3. Diamond Eyes - 8 4. ATF - 7 5. SNW - 6 6. Ohms - 6 7. Pony - 5 8. Adrenaline - 4 9. Gore - 4 I based mine off of how many songs I still listen to regularly. Maybe I just listened to Pony too much tho. Self titled wasn't my favorite until I saw them live are times to appreciate the songs more. Seen them 6 times. 3 times on SNW tour (Taste of Chaos, Family Values, Headliner) and 3 times after Chi passed (RIP), coheadline with Korn, coheadline with Incubus and finally on Gore tour. They didn't come to my area for Ohms tour.
Great ranking! Loved your reactions to the albums, you had some great insight. I personally think their self-titled album is really underrated, one of my favorites. Great ranking regardless, I also recommend you check out Glassjaw, they are very similar to Deftones. Keep it up!
So sad that Gore gets snubbed…its a grower, definitely recommend spending time with it. Eventually it unfurls a bit and you find absolutely crushing and mesmerizing portions of it that will stick. At times it’s atmosphere is more enveloping than even White Pony and the band’s guitar tone is huge and tuned much lower than that one too which pairs interestingly with how atmospheric and eerie the album is. Either way, solid ranking!
Good ranking molly Mine: 9. Gore 8. Adrenaline 7. Ohms 6. Koi No Yokan 5. Diamond Eyes 4. Around the Fur 3. Deftones 2. Saturday Night Wrist 1. White Pony
The thing that i love about the adrenaline album is the sound, the meaning, and how every song has this first sort of melody but has a climax to the end. the tone of that whole album makes it sound so poor but you can really just understand it. adrenaline is a album you would have to understand in terms of listening from the beginning and end
I love this band. Got me through some pretty difficult times over the years. And they pulled a lot of emotion out of me as they currently are right now. I am not going to watch this video but I will be here to comment on the Deftones. First off I own every album they put out. Seen them several times. Have a dozen t-shirts. Live down the street from the brewery that makes their own beer, and I do partake in it. I also run their sticker on the back of my car. But due to the recent band internal Skirmish with bass player Sergio Vega, that's just coming to light, and their lack of addressing the situation has me putting them on hold. I get that there are three sides to every story, theirs, his and the truth. But until they come forward I have to put my favorite band on hold right now as this is really disappointing from what has transpired over the past two weeks. Congratulations none-the-less on your subscriber achievement!
I heard the news about Sergio, like you said there's always more going on than meets the eye but kinda an unfortunate situation. My modus operandi has always been to separate the art from the artist though, and Deftones' music is really something special. It will never lose that magic for me, despite whatever band issues arise. But anyway, thanks for your support for the channel, I appreciate it :)
Interesting rating Molly. Here is mine: A + : White Pony, Koi No Yokan A : Around The Fur, Deftones, Diamond Eyes B: Ohms, Saturday Night Wrist, C: Adrenaline D: Gore
Solid ranking, I like it. I’d make minor changes to it based off of my personal experience in listening to Deftones for so long. So I feel like Koi No Yokan was a culmination of every Deftones album and it was great and that album achieved peak Deftones, I’d put Koi up top at A+. Gore was definitely my least favorite album too, but as I analyze it, it feels as if Deftones were back at trying to re invent themselves...Enter Ohms. Ohms is great, I’d slot this one in A however, If someone would start to listen to Deftones for the very first time and started off with Ohms, I feel like they’d rank it at A maybeeee A+. Deftones have re what reinvented themselves with Ohms, but it also has elements of old Deftones, I’d definitely rank this one at A and move SNW at B.
An incredibly difficult task ranking this bands albums... they're all killer! Also, you did a great job with your ranking. Your top 5 is pretty much the same as mine haha (just slightly different ordering depending on the mood haha)
Solid tier list. Here's how I would rank em: (fan since 02/03ish) A+ - ATF, WP, Diamond Eyes A - Deftones, Ohms* (idk why I initially called this Genesis lmaooo) B - Adrenaline C - SNW, KNY D - Gore
Congrats on 10k, Molly! I'm one of the few who really loves the album Gore. I find myself listening to it all the time. I listen to it as a full album though, as everything flows into the next track. A very fluid album.
This is such a hard band to rank albums for because it’s so different fan to fan. Deftones makes flavors for everyone so someones personal taste in music leads them to fall into particular albums, if that makes since. I love heavy music so all of Deftones heavy albums are the ones I return to the most. My list would looks like this. A+ - White Pony, Around the Fur A - Ohms, Self-Titled, Diamond eyes B - Adrenaline, Gore C - SNW, KNY Just based off my own taste.
I have been listening to Deftones since 1996, here are the best albums in my opinion, in this order. and reasons why... 1) White Pony (the heart of their sound and style in the most "poppy" and palateable format) 2) Around the Fur (transition from Nu metal to coming into their own sound, more melodic than Adrenaline) 3) Saturday Night Wrist (melancholy, atmospheric, lighter, and ambience heavy) 4) Adrenaline (intro to Deftones, Nu metal rock rap) 5) Deftones (self titled), (the heaviest and most abrasive guitars with drony atonal vocals and sounds) ....Diamond Eyes, and beyond, they lost me with what they were doing..
I'm 5 months late on this reply.... Sorry. It's the first time I stumbled across your channel. I will subscribe after posting this comment, great job. Deftones is really hard to explain and I think you nailed it. I only had a couple of differences in opinion. I would take everything in column A and reverse it. I like Saturday night wrist, diamond eyes and then Ohms. Also, I agreed with you on Gore but only about four years ago. Lately that's the album I go to the most which is weird, I don't know why. I've been really hooked on the song pittura infamante, it has fantastic lyrics. Anyways, great job, I can't wait to check out your other videos.
Well late is certainly better than never, that was me with Deftones haha! Glad you discovered the channel. I'll have to give Gore some more listens, maybe it'll continue to grow on me more over time.
WoW last time I was here you had 3,000 subs and now look! I'm not surprised at all because your takes on rock albums are very intelligent and well thought out, I will always support you and share!
I didn’t really like Saturday night wrist at first, but I feel like that’s what happens with every Deftones album I listen to. They’re all so insanely different from each other that it’s hard to listen to - because your ear just isn’t used to that tone, I guess. I started out only liking a few songs on that album and now I pretty much enjoy them all. Rapture is a song that stands out to me. The rhythm is just so eccentric on that song and it gets me every time.
SAME exact thing with me, initially I was very unsure of it except for a couple of tracks. Now I can listen to the entire album and love every song (yes, I even weirdly dig pink Cellphone, haha!) It's definitely a grower but amazing once you give it the time it deserves.
I 100% agree with these rankings, except you were far kinder than I would be on the assessment of Gore (lol). Subjectively, self titled is my favorite but I know it's not their best when compared to Around the Fur and White Pony, yet, you're favorite tracks from it are mine as well (AMAZING). Happy to hear that Saturday Night Wrist seemed to stay with you. I loved your individual videos in your Deftones series and this video was a really nice capper. CONGRATULATIONS ON 10K! I recommend you to everyone I know who is into alternative/metal or rock music. Stay golden Molly, you're one of the good ones.
Thank you! Your comment made me smile, glad you enjoyed following along as I discovered deftones' music. They're seriously one of my favorite bands of all time now, their music certainly had an impact on me and I really love all nine albums they've put out so far. Thanks for supporting the channel, I appreciate it! Can't wait to see what bands I'm gonna discover next :)
Love your channel. Just discovered it today. As someone who grew up with a lot of these bands I love seeing you find these bands that I love like Deftones, NIN, Converge. About Gore, it is now famously the album that guitarist Step Carpenter had little input on and feels the less connected to, perhaps why you and many fans feel it is lacking somewhat in the overall Deftones spectrum. I'd love to see you check out The Smashing Pumpkins or Thrice, two of my all time favourite bands. Keep up the fantastic content.
Wow that was a fantastic description of your deftone albums opinion I enjoyed you have some of the most honest genuine descriptions I have ever heard and I am trying to get into reviewing albums and let me just say I would love to be able to explain music that well and good job on keeping it clean on everything! Would love to hear what to say about other nu metal bands if music reviews are your thing. Music on!
Aw, thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed my little breakdown of all of these albums, Deftones is such a fantastic band and I really do enjoy all of their projects. I'll definitely consider doing some more nu metal album rankings/reviews here on my channel :)
Well I definitely would love to see more new metal reviews from you I'm definitely going to be doing a new metal ranking album series and other kinds there's just so many different types of music I enjoy, and thanks for the reply. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day! Peace out.
Wow absolutely crushed it… great work! Edit: just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I would switch Koi No Yokan and Ohms. Koi No Yokan is such a good vibe, but it doesn’t have an “it” factor for me. Which is why I put Ohms above it. The song Headless from Ohms is on another level for me personally.
gore, ohms, diamond eyes, koi no yokan, white pony, adrenaline around the fur ,self tilted ,Saturday night wrist.im old and discovered deftones with gore as my first album I listened too.Its my favourite album from the past 20 years , I like their newer stuff the most so guess im one of those weird fans . most people dont relly like gore because they have corn cobs in their ears
personally for me its Koi no yokan, gore, diamond eyes, saturday night wrist, white pony, ohms, covers, around the fur and adrenaline. ik thats a hot take
I’ve never wanted to talk to someone about a discography this badly ever. You seem young, but I like that for the most part you felt the same way that I did about all these albums that I grew up with. I think you get Deftones and I think you did your homework. This was great. Thanks!
Thanks, glad my passion for their music came through in the video. They're seriously such a fantastic band, each and every one of their albums has something very unique about it and in my opinion they haven't released a bad one yet.
I love your channel and your music reactions! I really agree with these rankings and i honestly think you did a great job! Also pleaseeee react to Helmet (the band) they had a huge influence on deftones and their early stuff (Adrenaline, Around The Fur and White Pony). The albums from helmet i reccomend are Strap It On (it's really raw), Meantime (there is not a bad song on that record), Betty And Aftertaste.
Molly, thank you so much for this video. I've always wanted to discuss Deftones with friends like you have in this video. Just the shear genius of Deftones. I totally agree with your ranking but you failed to mention entombed (Steph's tap intro and Chino's strong, wailing vocals throughout) The chorus alone hits you in the feels, personal opinion.
Yep I'm right there with you, I could talk about this band for hours. I've totally fallen in love with their music. Entombed is a fantastic track, I guess I forgot to mention that track in the video. Definitely a favorite of mine as well off of Koi No Yokan.
I got into Deftones in 2020, specifically when I got infected with covid and I was in quarentine for almost 3 weeks, I can say that Deftones saved my life because physically and mentally I was feeling very bad so the only thing that make me feel good was listening to them. Just like you I became a big fan of the band, and I agree and love your rank♥️ . . . Except for Adrenaline, that should be in A+ too
been a huge deftones fan since white pony. they are still my absolute favorite band by far, white pony is the best album ever recorded and change in the house of flies the best song ever written. having said that i think i just fell a tiny little bit in love with you, given how awfully close your ranking is to mine. Apart from around the fur it’s basically identical, so without further ado from wirst to best: #9 Gore #8 Adrenaline #7 Ohms #6 Around the Fur #5 Saturday Night wrist #4 Deftones #3 Diamond Eyes #2 Koi no yokan #1 White Pony
They're definitely my favorite band as well. And yes Change In the House of Flies absolutely NEVER gets old. In fact I think I love that song more with each listen. Such a fantastic band that has a killer discography, all of their albums are great!
I randomly stumbled upon this video and had to watch it. I admit was afraid going into it wondering what your appreciation for certain eras would be given your apparent age and potential starting point for the band. I couldn’t have been more wrong. You are definitely well versed in Deftones and I can tell you put a ton of thought into your review. Around the Fur is my all-time favorite record and White Pony is my second favorite Deftones record. I was stoked to see ATF get so much love. I think, for me, I might switch the self-titled and SNW. But you’re right about how on any given day, some of these rankings could move around a little. Anyway, great job. Sorry I doubted you (lol) and I will check out more of your videos.
Thank you!! Glad you discovered the channel. I started out my album reaction videos with Deftones and things have taken off from there so to speak. I'm glad my love for Deftones comes through in the video because I've really fallen in love with each and every one of their albums. They have a special way of creating a distinct feeling and mood for each one. Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos :)
Nice work Molly! 😄 It's definitely so hard ranking Deftones albums, it can change with the day/mood/time of day/what I had for dinner 😂 I 99% agree with what you say though I never really got into the self titled album. I try on occasion but it never seems to click, much to my dismay as I know a lot of people love that album! SNW is so addictive, there are songs on there that are some of my favourite of all time. But most definitely Around The Fur is always gonna be number 1. I don't realise how much I love it until I put it on sometimes, it has the most wonderful nostalgic feel, very emotional! It reminds me of being 17/18 and although it was White Pony era then, which was my introduction to Deftones, when I discovered ATF it just became one of my all time favourite albums. It's awesome to see someone of a younger generation still getting those same feels from these albums us older ones have been enjoying for all these years. It's such a wonderful thing to be a Deftones fan. Long may they reign!
Yeah my ranking can certainly change based on my mood. I think my first place and last place picks are the only solid choices for my personal ranking. My 2-8 ranked albums can shuffle around a lot.
My ranking is: 9: Koi no yokan 8: Saturday night wrist 7: White pony 6: Adrenaline 5: Diamond eyes 4: Ohms 3: Self titled 2: Around the fur 1: Gore ( The best)
as a fellow huge deftones fan after discovering them over this past year, i completely with you on this ranking and a lot of your favourites too! great video :)
Saturday Night Wrist is probably the one that i listen the most, it is so dreamy, so electronic and experimental, but remaining so melodic and unforgettable. Not sure is my best, but it is so good and unfairly underrated.
A+ for me without any doubt.
Same
I agree
I could only get into two songs on that album. Cherry Waves, and Rats!Rats!Rats! The album was apparently recorded during some conflicts within the band happening. You can kind of tell, as most of the songs really lack something.
So agree...it's one of those albums that just grows as the years roll by.
I absolutely love their music."
You and me both, Molly. You and me both.
Once you hear Deftones, there's no going back.
@@mollyesanborn For sure. You should check out Fear Factory and listen to their album Demanufacture. I think you’ll like it.
I get a little teary-eyed when I see someone gush over Around the Fur. That's my favorite album of all time, and I agree that it's beyond perfect!
*highfive*
That makes me happy to hear, it really is such a fantastic album!
ATF is what got me into them lmaoo
Yes yes yes. Although I absolutely adore Ohms, but ATF hit different. Buuuuuut actually self titled is my favorite.
@@LoMayn3184 ATF is one of the best Alternative rock albums ever made...if i may go that far? lol
same it doesnt get enough praise!!
That makes me happy to hear, glad you agree with the ranking! And yeah, seeing Deftones live one of these days would be amazing I'm sure.
@@mollyesanborn seen then prob 11-12 times now over the years. Never disappoints!
Around the fur is weird, melancholic, powerful, horny, angry, twisted, horny... And I love it. Great pick.
you forgot horny
I got into Deftones back in 2019 and they are now my favorite band. I highly recommend you check out their B sides and Rarities album
Yeah, that one's on my list! I'm sure it's got some great gems on it :)
2019! Wow, I saw them live for the first time in 96
Same!!
I think late 2018 for me…
@@damionchrist Haha right? I heard "Bored" on JBTV and "Teething" on the Crow 2 soundtrack. My brother and I were in a Camelot looking for something new and I go "Around the Fur? I dunno, that one Bored song was cool?"
BAM, been obsessed since then.
Lastly I think Ohms was a huge step up and I rate it as high as an A for sure, I love how the whole album ends on the title track, wraps it up really well.
adrenaline, around the fur, and koi.... then white pony and you can dump the rest as irrelevant.... that's my stance
Agree 100%. Look like Tim and I rank the albums exactly the same!
Oh wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed my ranking :)
I've been waiting for this forever.... And I love it! Koi No Yokan should be A+ tier though...
It was soooooo close to A+
I got Around the Fur one week before I started basic training for the Army.
Aw thanks! It is a lot of editing but I really enjoy it actually, they're fun to edit :)
@@mollyesanborn Love the energy and passion. That's incredibly rare.
Agreed it’s a tie with White pony for me
Chi was definitely still alive when diamond eyes was released.
Boy, am i happy to hear you give Around the Fur A+! my #1 album of all time!
Great pick for #1
Yep, it's straight up fantastic. I'm re-listening to it right now while writing this and it still never fails to amaze me.
@@dylanharris5486 thank you sir :)
@@mollyesanborn ahhh nice. BTW, love the channel. it gives me motivation to wanna discover new music, & older music of course too.
I grew up with this music and I think that White Pony is probably their most recognizable album.
I agree, I'd say the majority of their most "popular" or well known songs are on White Pony.
Aw thanks! I appreciate the kind words, and am glad that you're enjoying the channel :)
Diamond eyes is definitely my favorite album and congrats on hitting 10k subscribers
Thanks! And yes, Diamond Eyes is a fantastic album. Honestly can't believe it's #4 on my list when I'd consider it perfect, but I guess that's Deftones for you.
Beauty School
Around the fur will always be my favorite album of all time. Partly nostalgic.
I was in high-school when it dropped. Time Flys.
Loving your reviews! You don’t have that music snob critiques on albums, You are awesome molly glad you are enjoying deftones music and keep up the great work.
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the videos :)
Nice video. The original title of self-titled was actually going to be Depresstones, so it makes total sense (true fax). Very underrated album.
Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers!! Switch Koi No Yokan and a White pony and your list is pretty much the same as mine would be 😉 .. I also love when you name your favorite tracks because more times then not, they are all the best tracks... Great video 🔥
Thanks! And yeah, Koi No Yokan is a masterpiece for sure, I can see why it's your 2nd pick.
Beware is also my favorite song in Saturday Night Wrist!!! Great ranking🤘
Solid rankings!!
You deserve it 👏
Wow thank you, I really appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
I love Deftones they're so unique. I found about them year ago
Glad you agree! Yeah deftones are such a great band, so so difficult to rank their albums. Each one has something special to it.
I would have given them all a A+ lol
I am a huge fan of this band anyway! I'm happy you became a fan too!
That would be a very fitting ranking for Deftones! All of their albums have something very special to them. It would have made for a boring ranking video though, haha :p
Cool video. I subscribed.
I've been a fan for almost 20 years now. I used to have ATF and Pony as my top 2 as well.
My current ranking:
1. Deftones - 8
2. KNY - 8
3. Diamond Eyes - 8
4. ATF - 7
5. SNW - 6
6. Ohms - 6
7. Pony - 5
8. Adrenaline - 4
9. Gore - 4
I based mine off of how many songs I still listen to regularly.
Keep it up!
Thank you! I'll definitely consider some Glassjaw for future videos, I'd love to dive into their music.
Probably the best tier list I’ve seen
Good ranking molly
Mine:
9. Gore
8. Adrenaline
7. Ohms
6. Koi No Yokan
5. Diamond Eyes
4. Around the Fur
3. Deftones
2. Saturday Night Wrist
1. White Pony
Me and my buddy who lives in a different country now use to rock the adrenaline album everyday at the gym miss those days so much ❤ deftones
love seeing saturday night wrist and diamond eyes getting love
The thing that i love about the adrenaline album is the sound, the meaning, and how every song has this first sort of melody but has a climax to the end. the tone of that whole album makes it sound so poor but you can really just understand it. adrenaline is a album you would have to understand in terms of listening from the beginning and end
Diamond Eyes, Koi No Yukon and White Pony all my top 3 favourite albums. I couldn't just pick one between them
I agree with your rankings. "Prince" is also my most listened to Deftones track.
Here is mine:
A + : White Pony, Koi No Yokan
A : Around The Fur, Deftones, Diamond Eyes
B: Ohms, Saturday Night Wrist,
C: Adrenaline
D: Gore
swap around the fur and white pony and I agree with everything here
gore is WAYYY better then SNW
Same!
Adrenaline deserves better imo
I agree with this one.
Deftones have re what reinvented themselves with Ohms, but it also has elements of old Deftones, I’d definitely rank this one at A and move SNW at B.
thank you so much for this video :)
Thanks for watching! ❤️
Solid review, I’d put Saturday Night Wrist and Gore just a tad higher though. Maybe Adrenaline too.
An incredibly difficult task ranking this bands albums... they're all killer!
Also, you did a great job with your ranking. Your top 5 is pretty much the same as mine haha (just slightly different ordering depending on the mood haha)
Solid tier list.
Here's how I would rank em:
(fan since 02/03ish)
A+ - ATF, WP, Diamond Eyes
A - Deftones, Ohms* (idk why I initially called this Genesis lmaooo)
B - Adrenaline
C - SNW, KNY
D - Gore
I love deftones their music is so unique and it makes me feel something I can't describe all their albums are so good and unique in their own way :)
I 100% agree, you summed it up perfectly :)
Congrats on 10k, Molly!
I'm one of the few who really loves the album Gore. I find myself listening to it all the time. I listen to it as a full album though, as everything flows into the next track. A very fluid album.
I ❤ you.. lol I mean you're channel is fantastic! I really enjoy your videos. Keep them up!
Aw thanks! ❤️
1: white pony
2: around the fur
3: saturday night wrists
4: Koi No Yokan
5: Diamond eyes
What a fantastic analysis! Enjoying your videos so much!
Aw thanks! I really appreciate that. Glad you're enjoying the channel :)
A+ - White Pony, Around the Fur
A - Ohms, Self-Titled, Diamond eyes
B - Adrenaline, Gore
C - SNW, KNY
Just based off my own taste.
1: white pony
2: deftones
3: saturday night wrist
4: around the fur
5: adrenaline
Molly knows what's up
I have been listening to Deftones since 1996, here are the best albums in my opinion, in this order. and reasons why...
1) White Pony (the heart of their sound and style in the most "poppy" and palateable format)
2) Around the Fur (transition from Nu metal to coming into their own sound, more melodic than Adrenaline)
3) Saturday Night Wrist (melancholy, atmospheric, lighter, and ambience heavy)
4) Adrenaline (intro to Deftones, Nu metal rock rap)
5) Deftones (self titled), (the heaviest and most abrasive guitars with drony atonal vocals and sounds)
....Diamond Eyes, and beyond, they lost me with what they were doing..
Congratulations on 10K. Great Video. deftones kicks ass!!
I also love how we all watched your Deftones fandom grow in real time over about a year. Welcome to the DefClub haha
Thanks, I appreciate the support of the channel and I'm glad you're enjoying the videos :D
Never clicked on a video so quickly 😌
Hope ya enjoyed it! :)
I'm sorry, but I totally agree with you! 💪🏼
Congrats on the 10k!
Thanks! Glad you agree with the ranking :)
Peace out.
excellent ranking! you nailed it.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)
For me-
Gore
YYYEEESSSS!!!!!! the gods and the planets came together for this video to exist, this is my favorite band and now she is my favorite youtuber now ❤🔥
Aw, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. And Deftones is indeed the best :)
Solid video! Clearly you put a lot of thought and effort into it, which is always appreciated.
Thanks! I did have to put a lot of thought into this ranking just because all of these albums are so incredible, it's so difficult ranking them.
gore, ohms, diamond eyes, koi no yokan, white pony, adrenaline around the fur ,self tilted ,Saturday night wrist.im old and discovered deftones with gore as my first album I listened too.Its my favourite album from the past 20 years , I like their newer stuff the most so guess im one of those weird fans . most people dont relly like gore because they have corn cobs in their ears
personally for me its Koi no yokan, gore, diamond eyes, saturday night wrist, white pony, ohms, covers, around the fur and adrenaline. ik thats a hot take
I’ve never wanted to talk to someone about a discography this badly ever.
Thanks, glad you agree with my ranking! Helmet is definitely on my list of bands to listen to soon :)
Just like you I became a big fan of the band, and I agree and love your rank♥️

Except for Adrenaline, that should be in A+ too
I love adrenaline. Start to finish. The chaos and aggression.
Congrats on 10k !! Woohoo!!! Seeing Deftones may 14th 😆!!!
Thanks! And enjoy the concert, I'm sure it'll be awesome :D
Mine:
S - White Pony, Around the Fur
A - Diamond Eyes, Deftones
B - No Koi Yokan, Ohms, SNW, Adrenaline,
C - Gore
been a huge deftones fan since white pony. they are still my absolute favorite band by far, white pony is the best album ever recorded and change in the house of flies the best song ever written. having said that i think i just fell a tiny little bit in love with you, given how awfully close your ranking is to mine. Apart from around the fur it’s basically identical, so without further ado from wirst to best:
#9 Gore
#8 Adrenaline
#7 Ohms
#6 Around the Fur
#5 Saturday Night wrist
#4 Deftones
#3 Diamond Eyes
#2 Koi no yokan
#1 White Pony
They're definitely my favorite band as well. And yes Change In the House of Flies absolutely NEVER gets old. In fact I think I love that song more with each listen. Such a fantastic band that has a killer discography, all of their albums are great!
Great ranking Molly! I absolutely love all Deftones discography, if I have to choose a fav album would be Adrenaline 🤘😎 🎸 Keep up the good work
I randomly stumbled upon this video and had to watch it.
Great analysis. For me personally i would put Gore in the B ranking and KNY and Ohms in the A+.
Ps: i love your Silent Hil t-shirt!
You nailed it. I'm with you on this ranking.
Love your hair🖤🖤
My ranking is:
9: Koi no yokan
8: Saturday night wrist
7: White pony
6: Adrenaline
5: Diamond eyes
4: Ohms
3: Self titled
2: Around the fur
1: Gore ( The best)
as a fellow huge deftones fan after discovering them over this past year, i completely with you on this ranking and a lot of your favourites too! great video :)
