This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

Making video's for a audience that you can't see can be frustrating. I think most people would like a 1 day build. Personally I enjoy content every day. When I don't see any video's I miss it. I like your content no matter what you do. You are the creator of your own little world. It is hard to please everyone. You need to please yourself and enjoy what you are doing. Most people want knife content that is what they come to see. I watch because I am interested in you work. When you show family, gym workouts, drone's, shooting and other parts of your daily life you bring us into your world. This is why I thank you for the little things you do and not just the knife builds. Thanks for the video. Always

Keep doing daily builds. I watch others as well and by keeping them short and daily I have time to do quick views of other projects that others are doing as well. I don't want to sit for hours watching a few videos. Short and sweet. Keep it up. RUclips knows what works. They get feedback from people who do videos. Its a great working model.

I really like the vlogs instead of a typical build video, because it gives a lot of insight into the problem solving. It also gives a better idea of how long a project actually takes and how much work actually went into it. With a typical build video it comes across as if a project was done in a day even if it took 2 weeks.

I think your doing a great job! If you do a full video build then people will complain about it being too long or not in-depth enough. You do you keep em coming every day!

I think the compilation at the end would be amazing. For any future followers who stumble across it, it gives them the opportunity to watch the start to finish quickly without having to go through several videos; instant gratification to keep them coming back for more.
Also, I can't believe I didn't think of this the other day when you asked, but you should do a series of knives that mimic the profile of different bird beaks: straight like a kingfisher, curved like an eagle, hooked like a falcon, et cetera.

I don't mind the multi video build at all, I think it allows for more details to be consumed whether it be spoken or just observed by the viewer. I would also say that it's unfortunate that some people might not like it, but do what's best for your channel at this time. Also, loving the Goon t-shirt 👍.

Your point about RUclips's algorithm is actually very true, not because I make videos (because I don't have like 10 videos and they're all like 8 months apart lol) but I never knew about your channel until like two weeks ago maybe, so it's definitely working and I'm happy because your channel is great haha

  • @morrow.m

You do you. I totally understand needing to play along RUclips's algorithmic rules. Do what is best for you/family time and your channel. Your content and editing are on point as always. Keep doing you.

I agree that a dedicated build video would be good. Maybe you could vlog the whole build, except for the final reveal. The reason why a separate build video is good, is because newbies and subscribers can then use that 1 video as a reference, instead of 5 videos.

I like the idea of the vlog style series and then the compiled video at the end. You can leave your mistakes in the vlog style (love seeing those, even if you make a lot less of them than I do) and then the full build you can edit them out. Just an idea. Loving your videos though, from all the way over here on Cape Breton Island

After watching your five knives in five days playlist, I decided to try three in three days... I pretty much disappeared from my family for 72 hours. It's an unbelievable amount of work. My hat's off to you! You work fast and you produce great quality, both in the videos and the knives. I say do it however it works for you and your channel will continue to grow, your fans aren't going anywhere, you give us great value. Cheers!

Been wanting to make a folder, and I'm enjoying this. I don't mind all the videos at around 15 mins, and I don't mind hour long vids either, but most people lose interest after 10 mins. However, I reckon most people in the woodworking and knife making community are quite different from the let's play video game community.

Hi Jeremy, first things first, thanks so much for your channel. To answer your opening question, "Would a compiled build video, or videos, be of interest to your viewers?", this viewer says "YES!". I love your presentation style and demeanor when addressing the audience. A build along, with voice-over in say 2 parts would be awesome! Only marginally more awesome might be a build kit with materials similar to what you used, available for purchase of course, or a recommendation as to where a quality kit may be obtained. But I digress, this may be too much to ask. Anywhoo, thanks again for such a great channel!
p.s. Might be worth considering a special edition "Viewer's Knives" episode based on submissions from the build-along. Maybe take submissions for 30 days, or until you reach "x" amount of usable submissions. Pair it with a "tiny" giveaway, say for some stickers or something. Just a thought...

love the daily content!! I don't think that the "weekend compilation" video would be nearly as fun as watching all the progress real time, that being said I could be useful for newer ppl who come to the channel to see in one video what that project is all about. Watching a 5 video series of some wacky canuck playing around with power tools and fire can seem a bit much to some ;)

There's a reason why engineers say, "Never sell the prototype!"
It's because the prototype is the one that you have to build before you figure out how to build the one that you want to build.

Great start to what I know will be awesome knife Jeremy. I made two friction folders several years ago following Sugarcreek Forge's build-a-long (check out video 1 to see his design ideas, it's very helpful), and man they are FUN to build. I ended up having to use a file to fine-tune the stop pin location etc, and they turned out well in the end. I can't wait to see the progress you made today!

I think that you'llfind that a longer tang/flipper aids in retention of the blade when opened. I also made my first and only friction folder with a short tang. Another option is to shape it like a bottle opener, so it has dual function.

    hey Simply Little Life,
I'm a new sub to your channel and what I have seen from other content creators is that they will upload their daily vlog, then for the weekend, they compile all the useful clips into one 20-45 minute video for the viewers who enjoy watching one video straight.
Love your work, keep it up!

  • @michaelcall4962
    @michaelcall4962 7 лет назад

I, for one, don't mind the segmented videos. But I will echo some other comments, if those people want the full build, just throw the full build as one video once the whole thing's done. I do have to say though, it's really awesome seeing your creativity, and seeing you challenge yourself lately. Because, this one, this video right here, was your highest production quality I've seen. Keep it up!

I personally like the “weekend wrap-up” idea. When I watch the videos as they come out I like to see the progress and what not but thinking about future me looking back on a specific project it’d be nice to have an entire project in one video for reference.

Thanks for considering your viewers input. I've quit watching many channels (Wranglerstar in particular) because they don't care about our input. I love watching your content everyday but I also enjoy 1(sometimes 2) part build videos. 3 parts or more like Alec Steele has switched to and now I'm watching less of his content. It's really a bummer.

  • @samstocker08

You liked the build process on my instagram, it's a weird one to get the hang of. That looseness could have been the G10 on steel pivot, if the other one was on and screwed in it might not have been so wobbly. You may also need to do a liner of sorts on the pivot, epoxy the liner to the G10, and the screw running through the liner. Just make sure it's just shy of the G10 or else it won't be able to have an adjustable tension.

Be you, do what you want. I wouldn't be following you on RUclips if I didn't like your videos 😉 All that I ask is that you stop showing me up with the pushups! Ha ha 😅

  • @Sigma_Freud18

If you hand-make a folder, my opinion is to rough-cut the blade/handle sides and belt-grind all edges square (all parts just squared off) and proceed with the area of the hinge detail FIRST. This facilitates being able to mount them into the jaws of your milling machine vise to do a much better job of fitting things together. When the hinge details are finished, you can then shape and grind your blade and scales. You will never be able to precisely align everything by scribing and center-punching the locations.

Simple little life... In my opinion, The indepth content is much more valuable no matter if it is several parts or videos. As a knifemaker myself the knowledge gained by seeing a searies of videos is more valuable. Unless the video is edited in a way that visually sapports the the build with the needed and appreciated build info so that someone could learn without missing valuable details.... if it were up to me, i'd have you carry on as you are but once a build is done, either compile the footage to make a full build video or just stick them all in individual playlists for each build. that would be easier i imagine. it's a nightmare trying to sift through your vlogs trying to find the relevant ones for each build. it'll be a lot of work for you to make a whole new video with all the footage, i'd be happy with just each build simply separated into individual playlists

if you end up with slop or if your knife pivots too far and doesnt stop where you want, you can enlarge the stop pins and sometimes that saves the piece. also I found a product from USAknifemaker.com called CamStop which is a stop pin that you can adjust. I have never tried it but it seems like a genius idea for folding knives.
