No leather in this video, but I wanted to show how to make a friction folder knife. I made one before but it wasn't that great. This video is pretty in depth.
Your video is what I've been looking for, very precise. Well though out. Thanks I'm, 75 and am a tinkerer. The first part of the heat treatment I may have a problem with.
Mate. that is outstanding work with very modest means, you see guys with gleaming workshops crammed with gear and can't put a job as good as that. Seriously impressive work
your tutorial was wonderful. I enjoyed it very much. I make fixed blades quite regularly, but your tutorial has caused me to have to make me and my good friend one of these. great job. thank u for sharing
I’ve been watching a Lot of clips about making a friction folder, and yours is my favourite by far! Beautiful knife. Perfect clip showing construction without any BS. You’ve inspired me. Thank You :)
i totaly copied you but have now made my first friction folder and love it .thanks for doing this i rely do have a nice handy little blade now thanks again
I know it's a while since you posted this but for you and others who do not have a drill press vice, if you drill some holes in your drill press work table, not all the way through, you can put pins (nails) in suitable places to hold the work from spinning out.
good work, they look great. on the brown micarta, did you use the same tools/belt to contour it as the black ? probably just residual material from the black micarta that altered the brown, but it looks awesome. haha keep it up.
WOW!!!! That was a great video. You do a very nice job with tutorials. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you for taking the time to put out great content. I think I may need to give it a try. P.S. I'm still waiting to hear how I can get my hands on some of your music. I'm an old-school metal head too.
I know this is your hard work, but would you possibly be willing to put your drawing onto a word document or something and post a link somehow because its a beautiful design
Is there a way to have the internals be made of steel (or other materials), while having external scales made of carbon fiber, almost to give a faux-liner look, and also hiding the pins?
Nice project. I'm thinking of making a friction folder with the "scarring effect" on the blade. Would the same scarring happen if heat treating with a blowtorch? :)
Yes the way you said it tword the end. I've found at least a dozen friction folder videos, with that dumbass music, the stuff titled build along, that plays the elevator music. Just people wanting to show off what they've made. But thank you for the step by step detail you put into this man.
Nice video man, helped me alot of my knifemaking.. got some questions answered :).. How did u do your heater? thats my biggest problem right now.. how to create a heater... Thanks for the video.

The heat treatment isn’t that hard, just get some good 1095 steel.
Mate. that is outstanding work with very modest means, you see guys with gleaming workshops crammed with gear and can't put a job as good as that. Seriously impressive work
Thanks!
your tutorial was wonderful. I enjoyed it very much. I make fixed blades quite regularly, but your tutorial has caused me to have to make me and my good friend one of these. great job. thank u for sharing

I'm new to knife making and been trying to find a good friction folder tutorial, this was great! Thanks for your time.
+Cummins 1904 No problem, thanks for watching.
I’ve been watching a Lot of clips about making a friction folder, and yours is my favourite by far!
Beautiful knife.
Perfect clip showing construction without any BS.

Thanks
hey nice knife im impressed with what u did with very minimal tools. speaking of tools bolt down that drill press it was driving me nuts haha
+Emilio Carbajal LOL I know but I move my stuff around so much I don't want to.
how many hours do
you have in one of these? Looks like a fun project, not sure if they're quicker or slower than fixed blades to make though...
+Arizona Survivalist Not sure how many hours, takes me a day.
I would assume this would take longer than a fixed blade
+Xander McDonald Not really, about the same time.
good work, they look great. on the brown micarta, did you use the same tools/belt to contour it as the black ? probably just residual material from the black micarta that altered the brown, but it looks awesome. haha keep it up.

where are you located, I'm interested in a custom knife. these little Stout folders are kickass!!!
I know this is your hard work, but would you possibly be willing to put your drawing onto a word document or something and post a link somehow because its a beautiful design
Nice work 😎
the light in your workshop is fine, great knifes, but would you do something about your music?
+Jadis Steelt Ya, next time I'll turn it up.
Estupendo trabajo, felicitaciones!
Excellent work.. Can i have the plans?
great video mate, just wanted to know what size Chicago pin u used as I like the idea of being able to remove my blade.
Not sure the size, I get them at Tandy
Could i get a template of that knife? I've like it very much
Good job! I think i'll try making one of these!
+Scot Snook Have fun!
Great work bud..
Thanks
Is there a way to have the internals be made of steel (or other materials), while having external scales made of carbon fiber, almost to give a faux-liner look, and also hiding the pins?
+Xero Yes, but you would need to use some type of washer between the blade and metal liners so they don't rub.
JDOCustomLeather Thanks!
What did you use for the micarta? Leather or cloth or paper etc?
I don't know I didn't make the micarta
Fantastic video my friend, its something i now really want to try. What grit do you use to put the edge on the blade?
+doomedtroll I start with 80, then 320, then the strouping belt.
love this style knife
Thanks
Nice project. I'm thinking of making a friction folder with the "scarring effect" on the blade. Would the same scarring happen if heat treating with a blowtorch? :)
Not sure
can you give me a link to the exact pivots you used? i like how they look. Thanks!
-Noah
The pivots were the stainless steel pins
beautiful knife how do I purchase one
Nice work sir
+Joshua Bender Thanks
How much do you charge to make one of these? I may be interested in purchasing one
+Jack Rogers Not making any more for a while, sorry.
That's pretty cool is there any way you could make me one of those?
Nice work.
+Garrett Hammers Thanks
You're welcome
nicely done
+Wayne Buss Thanks
Do you still have the design to theses knifes?
where did you find the Chicago screws?
+foster Gwyn Tandy Leather
Great video and knifes bro
Thanks
Any time bro do you sell your knifes in London UK by any chance
that's a good deal how would I go about getting it
You can pay through paypal, email me at jdoleather@gmail.com and I'll give you all the info.
how about a C- clamp. how much do u like your 1x30 sander?
+Emilio Carbajal I love my 1x30, it's great on a budget but it takes a while to profile a knife. What are you talking about with a c-clamp?
take a c-clamp or any clamp and clamp it down to the bench that way it wont move. but it wont be permanent and they r cheap
+Emilio Carbajal Ah ok,
Very nice
can you give me the template of the knife so i can make one of these amazing knives
Yes the way you said it tword the end. I've found at least a dozen friction folder videos, with that dumbass music, the stuff titled build along, that plays the elevator music. Just people wanting to show off what they've made. But thank you for the step by step detail you put into this man.
No problem
Do you sell these? I would be interested in buying one.
Me,too.Lol
How thick is that metal
how much u want the black one for
Nice video man, helped me alot of my knifemaking.. got some questions answered :)..
How did u do your heater? thats my biggest problem right now.. how to create a heater...
Thanks for the video.
+Marcus Davidsson Heater?
+Jason Olbinski probably the coal heat treatment rig
Ooh. Yeah thats what i mean.. bad english 😂😂. Thanks peder
+Marcus Davidsson It's a forge, I have a video on that on my personal channel, Jason Olbinski.

ATB Mike
#StayCornish 😬
Thanks
Thanks.... Nice video of a god knife
Awesome man!
+J. Gregg Campbell Thanks
Can u make a link where we can get that template
I appreciate your video thank you .What you are calling scaring is actually called scale
+Lee Sass I know, but most scaling comes off but when using a forge like this the scaling leaves scars, gas forges usually don't.
very cool bro
+paul schuetz Thanks
how did you make the leather belt?
+corn nugget I bought a 1" veg tan belt blank from Tandy and just cut it and skived it to fit, glued it and stitched it, works great.
+JDOCustomLeather thanks man!
I'd say that's impressive considering the tools at hand
Thanks
hello how can I get a hold of you? I would like to talk a little about working with you ....
very nice!!!
+sivart namhsid Thanks
nice work o
Thanks
very nice
Thanks
Thanks for the vid!
Cool knife, but dude clamps are cheap, get some and clamp that steel down when you're drilling! That was so cringe worthy watching you drill. haha...
lol I live dangerously.
Right! Lol, get a few helicopter fly aways you'll clamp. Great video, hoping for some more from you JDO!
Not just what you're drilling but the drill press too XD it was running away when you were using the sanding wheel XD
I want to try it
Good luck!
could you release the template you used?
keeping the blade patter cocked its the highlight :)
Primary grind twice as long, or 3 times as long to make it a lot cuttier and a thinner handle. Thats what I would have done
Can I purchase a Friction Folder by chance?? -Stephen, Ohio
Actually I still have the brown one, $100 with sheath, it's pending a sale, if the customer doesn't want it you want me to message you?
The knife is now available
Helped me brother 👍
Awesome
how can I buy one?
good stuff
Thanks
how much ???
could you share the templates?
