  • In 1981, John Carpenter made the cult classic movie "Escape From New York" starring Kurt Russell as the anti-hero "Snake Plissken". In the movie the year is 1997, a major war between the United States and the Soviet Union is over, and the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into a giant maximum security prison for the entire United States. It is guarded by the United States Police Force (USPF) When Air Force One is hijacked and crashes into the island, the president is taken hostage by a group of inmates. Snake Plissken, a former Special Forces soldier turned criminal, is recruited to retrieve the president in exchange for his own freedom, but there's a catch! Snake only has 24 hours to save the president or himself will die!
In the movie, Plissken, is given a bracelet with the USPF Symbol on it.(An Eagle Silhouette) The bracelet/gauntlet faceplate flips open to reveal a red button that if pressed sends a radar signal to the USPF command center. Plissken is told it will track him for 15 minutes.
In my opinion this is one of the more iconic props in the movie and was one of my favorites that I always wanted, but could never find. Therefore, I decided to create my own, which ironically, I ended up giving to my brother for his birthday, since he and I are die hard fans of the movie. However, creating the bracelet/gauntlet (which ever description you prefer) did show me how I would improve this prop for future builds. (Such as making one for myself)
The tutorial is a bit long, about 54 minutes, but I did try to use tools and material that were readily available and/or easy to get. Creating this prop took me around 3 weeks, but that was just working on it when I had time. So if your a die hard fan, like myself, I think that this tutorial will help you create a good replica that you can use for cosplay or to just add to your Escape From New York Collection.
If you have any questions about the build, please ask in the comments and I will try to get back to you in a timely manner.
    Enjoy,
    Vincent
**IN THE TUTORIAL I STATE THAT ALL MATERIALS FOR THIS PROJECT WILL BE IN THE DESCRIPTION. I DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE EASIER TO HAVE ONE LINK THAT GOES TO MY WEBPAGE CONNECTED TO THIS PROJECT. YOU WILL FIND ALL LINKS YOU NEED THERE.**

Would you consider making and selling these?

Unfortunately, creating one does take a little time. I'm not retired or anything so these projects often take longer since I have to do it when I have spare time. This one was made as a gift for my brother so I pushed myself to finish it. So at least right now I'm unable. Currently I'm working on another project. As far as selling them, I would imagine I would run into a problem with copyrighting if I were to advertise it as Snake Plissken's Tracer. Sorry...I can answer any questions if you attempt to make one following the tutorial though.
