- ANGRY MAN SPITS at Me while I was helping GRANDPA with Overgrown PROPERTY
We were contacted by a Grandpa that is nearing the end of his time and he was wondering if we could use our brush mower and clean up the Overgrown property by the road so he could see the wildlife while riding down property on golf cart.
We arrived at the Vacant property and mowed, mulched a lot of the overgrown grass and brush. We ended up getting a Massive Log stuck in the Mulcher and spent over an hour trying to get it out. Before I know it, the sun was going down.
Just as the sun was starting to go down, we had someone pull in with flashing lights and an Angry Man got out cursing at us and asking what we were doing on the property, he mentioned we were screwing up his hunting. He explained that he owned the property which we found out later, maybe wasn't the case. Moments later he decided to spit at me while threatening to call the cops.

To cover yourself always film getting permission, record the phone conversation, or get something in writing. You could have been hired by a neighbor who was bothered by all the overgrowth. We live in dangerous times so always protect yourself. Glad your son wasn't present.

And just say the property had actually belonged to the person and he’d been working for years to build a natural screen. His frustration would have been understandable. ( BUT Not spitting yuk).

The person who owns the property should also be on hand as well, they don't need to stand there and watch, but they should at least a phone call away if a dispute breaks out.
Irrespective of the guys problem, spitting at you is totally unacceptable! You should have called the police, and have him arrested! Unfortunately, these days people seem to think they have the right to butt in others business!
I would press charges. Spitting on you is now a felony. That is an assault. It's not safe.

Spitting is not a felony. In most states it will range from a Simple Assault to a Class A Misdemeanor. Still, it is a crime, and the guy should be made to answer for what he did.

It's a felony in some places, but not everywhere.
The biggest indicator to me that something was up with that guy was the fact that he got back in his truck, drove away and left you there. If it was my property and I had intruders, I would stay there and be on the phone with 911 until the cops got there. We've had intruding trespassers like that hunting guy on our farm before and they act like they own the place sometimes. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Maybe you need to call the cops on him and report him for assault.
I don't know why he's so pissed off. You can't hunt next to a road.
You can if you're a certain number of feet FROM the edge of the road. But you absolutely can't hunt from ON the road, either standing or in a vehicle. Big fine and possibly jail, depending on the state's hunting laws.
He's upset because he used to hunt there, on property he didnt own, and is now going to be afraid to because he can now be seen trespassing from the road.
Let them call the police...say gladly🙏

In Australia spitting or biting (by law) is a very, very serious crime.
Yes, technically that is an assault in traditional English law that was incorporated into the laws of the United States, but it depends how the state's statute defines assault. Also, unless that man can be identified by license plate number or facial recognition, for instance, there won't be any charges made against a man who can't be found.

I hope the Grandpa makes sure that guy never uses his property again. He had absolutely no legitimate or legal right to confront you and certainly no right to assault you Eric. You need to press charges and let the police, he threatened to call, correct his thinking.

I don't know about where you're at. But here in New Jersey that guy spitting at you is considered an assault because of what and be carried in humans' saliva. It's dangerous.

A property owner wouldn't have just driven off like that. He would have insisted on figuring out the situation, and then seen you off the property before he left himself.
The fact that he left so abruptly after making threats is a solid hint that he wasn't telling the truth himself.

Eric, when someone contacts you to do work on their property, get online to the County Auditor to verify who owns the property. That will help you when you speak to the person asking for assistance.

Real Estate Law 101...the name on the "deed" that is filed with the county is the "actual" owner of the property. Eric I'm not sure what the rules for hunting in your state but here it's 100 feet from any roads to fire a gun and you can't shoot in any direction of surrounding homes I wonder if that's why the cops didn't show is because he knew he'd be in the wrong for hunting in that area the back woods would be more favorable due to the no houses and no roads close by. I know either way the area looks good and the guys a total ass
