The 2005 Bengals are one of the most tragic teams in NFL history. MVP caliber season from Carson Palmer and one of the best defenses in the league, lost in the first round to a bitter rival, star QB Carson Palmer tears ACL, their stud rookie linebacker Odell Thurman was suspended for two years and waived by the team afterwards due to addiction issues, and this team has still not won a playoff game since 1990.
Chris Henry also tore his MCL on the play where Palmer got obliterated by Kimo, and if the stats are still good, the 2005 Bengals were the last team in NFL to lead the league in turnover margin and not make the Super Bowl. And then the NFL and the Bill Leavy crew gift wraps the SB for Cower and Bettis.
This game was brutal. Two teams hitting very hard on Defense and in the trenches. What a battle this game was. If this game was played in today's NFL rules there would be about 5 or 6 ejections alone in this game. There was some serious hits going on between the Bengals and Steelers in 2005. What a great game..
jaymac508 not to hating on the Steelers, but I’ve always felt they got lucky in not having to play the Patriots in the playoffs that year, as they had proven to be Pittsburgh’s Achilles heel
Thanks for another fine upload. I remember this game. The Bengals really looked like they were going to be a playoff contender for years to come up with Palmer putting up nutty numbers, and a young hungry defense. Unfortunately, Palmer got hurt as everyone knows, and other aspects of the team just crumbled shortly after. This was probably Marvin Lewis' best team.
Seems like yesterday, this steelers team was together, heath miller a rookie, troy being 2 year vet, ben 1 year, hines ward... not to forget Jerome Bettis..
They at least would have won a playoff game. Etched in my memory forever, and solidified my hatred for Steelers fans after they rubbed it in at work the following day.
And I'm being reminded why people had such a problem with Willie Parker. I grew up in Texas, and in the games I saw him in he was fantastic. Catching up now on the games that were out of my market, I see why he was so problematic.
Cincinnati Bengals was member AFC Central Division from 1970 through 1993 and Pittsburgh Steelers was member AFC Central Division from 1970 through 1993 era
Praying joe burrow can bring the bengals back to relevance. This team was so fun to watch for a period of time and I’m not even a bengal fan. Can someone explain how they fell off so hard???😂 the offense was on fire, the defense was creating turnovers like crazy and the receiving core was really good

He had some terrible years too tho. He’s similar to Kerry Collins. Been on a few teams, had his good or even great successful years but was inconsistent
A lot of Bengals fans saying...they win Super Bowl XL, is just laughable. The Steelers were 2-1 vs the Bengals winning both in Cincinnati. It took Ben throwing a bunch of ints for Cincinnati to even win this one. Steelers were the better team, get over it.... And clearly you people don’t know how the playoffs work. If...lol, it didn’t happen. If the Bengals were to of beat Pittsburgh. They would of had to play Denver. Not Indy in the next round, win that game, which they wouldn’t and play the winner of NE vs Indy. No shot in hell that happens. The Bengals were not that good. Carson had a good season, can’t argue that. Only reason they even won the North was because Ben missed time. Steelers went from 7-2 to 7-5 with him out. Bengals took advantage. Got exposed in the playoffs. End of story, gooooooood grief
Biased opinion but whatever lol. Bengals were gonna win this game regardless of interceptions they scored 38 points and had 400+ yards of offense for God's sake. Stop making excuses.
Watch the first Bengals Steelers game in 2005. Carson was terrible and Bengals lost. Carson Palmer was 5-10 in his career against the Steelers. Bengals would have lost no matter what in that playoff game.
@@killalltogepis9916 literally look at the play he got hurt on this was the bengals biggest game in recent memory, they kept it close with Kitna. If Carson plays they dominate the Steelers and that’s without a doubt
Steelers didn't lose another game after this one on their way to Super Bowl XL. Big thanks to TJ Douchemanzedah for disrespecting the Terrible Towel after the game and further cursing the Bengals.
And the Steelers went on to be the ultimate road warriors in the playoffs with a second year QB First taking back the division from the Bengals (should of never disrespected the terrible towel) Then going into the colts and beating them(thank God that idiot kicker missed) Then beating a Denver team that beat the Patriots a week earlier (first Time the broncos lost a AFC championship at home) Then going into Superbowl XL to play a fine Seattle team but after some mistakes by the Seahawks and a few missed field goals and dropped passes later the Steelers got that one for the thumb and the bus got to retire a champ and bill finally won a ring, and Ben still the youngest QB to win a ring
As a Steelers fan the playoffs the Steelers got there revenge on the Bengals and won the superbowl that year as a wildcard 6th seeded team sweet revenge go steelers
I surfed the comments; woulda, coulda, shoulda, DIDN'T. Quit bitching about the Palmer hit, it wasn't dirty. We don't know if they would've even gotten past Indy, or Denver.
ISN’T THIS STEELER TEAM A SUPER BOWL CHAMPION TEAM DIDNT JEROME BETTIS RETIRE AFTER THIS SEASON AFTER THE STEELERS WON THE SUPERBOWL IN DETROIT SO IT WASNT A BAD LOSS FOR THE BENGALS
The reason the Bengals even had a pulse in this game was because they won the turnover battle. The Steelers already crushed Cincy with Palmer in Cincinnati earlier in the year.
Because those pieces of shit took out Carson's knee in the playoffs. Cincy woulda beat PIT easily if not just like this game and woulda went to the Super Bowl.
Who Dey!!????? We Dey!!!!!!!! Just remember what happened on wild card weekend!!!! And you were going to get smashed no matter if Carson Palmer went down or not!! That defense was just way too much for anybody that day!!! Just another Bungle excuse! Remember they could have avoided playing on wild card weekend if they took care of business!
