Pretty strong sounding motor there. If the tach is accurate, it runs to over 8K rpm before it begins to float the valves a bit. A lot of time between 7 and 8.... A motor like that could be used in all sorts of racing venues. Whoever built it knew what he was doing.

Ko-wing wong I realize that, its not a big secret...But what point would it make to put a 1400 horse motor that costs you around twelve grand or more to build, shove it in a herbie derbie car to try to win $1500.00 and destroy it in the process? Respectfully, you're missing my point.....
+6redline3 It don't even sound like a 700hp small block (or anywhere near it). I don't doubt he has a forged bottom end though, as you said 7000-8000 rpm's all that time LOL
No matter what you do absolutely do not keep the car running if it’s throwing smoke or has any damage what so ever, up here in Vermont what’s hot is el dorados, people go all over the country looking for them to put in our demo, but, they often times just keep revving their motors sitting there stuck not getting anywhere damaging it, nothing breaks my heart more then that, one of the guys last year blew up on him because of this, endlessly revving his engine trying to get out when he obviously could not, no point in it all it gets you is a even more broken car, and with this nice of a engine I’m sure you wouldn’t want that to happen, great job anyway, and good luck 👍🏻
700 horsepower my a**!! Sure it revs, but I highly doubt that motor made that much horsepower. I had a 13:1 gear-driven 468" roller motor that was built by a well known NW engine builder whose race motors were legendary, and it was one of his favorite pieces (he even offered to buy it from me when he was done for $10K), and it made 639 horsepower on a dyno stand @ 5800 rpm. I threw a 400 horse Nitrous "Big Shot" plate system on it just for a little extra kick. Manley stainless steel severe duty 2.250" and 1.900" valves, Crower custom ground nitrous roller camshaft, billet stud girdles, micro polished and balanced steel crankshaft, heads had 38 hours of port polishing, bench flowed, cc'd, reworked 1050 Dominator, ect. If his motor was making that kind of power, it must have happened late at night in his dreams.....lol
with that motor, and carb set up with those headers, you would be lucky if it gave 300hp, even if it had some quality head work.I call B.S. big time B.S
Some Chevy 350 small blocks had as little as 148hp in the smog era. The engine in the video sounds and revs like a 325-350hp engine. 500hp on mud in a rear wheel drive car would be useless.
That could be a 400 bored to 434 you don’t know and that carb could be a 850 cfm plus who knows dude you obviously don’t know shit you can just tell that it sounds healthy asf I mean listen to the lope moron. For all you know he could have 14:1 compression pistions in it and running race gas,e85 or alcohol. Like dude your a moron 1969 z28 camaros with 302s made more than 3 hundred horse.all you have to do is look at the tach in the left bottom and watch the rpms he took it well over 8 thousand a few times and that just tells this is a well build motor with a steel crank rods and pistions, cast shit would have let lose at that rpm. And to note the valve train there was no valve float up in those rpms so that tells you that there’s a good cam and lifter set, roller rockers ,springs and so on. Anyways don’t talk about shit u don’t know punk
Kyle Doll I agree 100% No doubt it's built. Easy 700hp. Listen to rpms and it didn't miss once. I know the sound of a small block and that was 10rpm at one point. The valve covers are tall and narrow so that gives a clue into the valvetrain, connecting it to a gear drive, wise investment.
Sweet video! I like your 10k rpm sarcasm for the next engine but that would be cool to see if someone had endless funds. Nothing like seeing a vacuum pump, low tension rings, gas ported pistons, and lots of titanium valvetrain in a derby motor!!
I agree if you notice the on the Tac it was already redlining at 7,000-8,000 Rpm, and by the sounds of the engine it was not going any higher than that.
If you read the description it will tell you that the front axle broke and the wheels kept working against each other so it probably limited what he could really could do with hp
Every demo derby needs to go back to the old rules and keep them all completely stock big motors are for people that just want to win and thats it were is the fun in this sport bc there is none anymore
To those of you commenting that it dont "sound" like 700 hp, sound has nothing to do with the amount of power an engine has.........and to those hating I'd love to see your car.......oh wait hard to build a car while spanking it in your moms basement
Brady Sprague I guess you've never been to a demo derby before.there's only the driver in the car and most generally it would be illegal to hit on the drivers side. Build your front end right and you won't have to worry about that, I hardly ever hit cars in reverse and rarley trashed a radiator because of how hard I built my front ends
I’m looking at all these comments of people who need to do a little research or at least go to some derbies. A lot of derby cars do indeed make 700+ hp. Not saying that this one does or doesn’t but people need to at least learn a little about derbies and how serious some people take them. There are indeed classes in derbies where cars can reach above 1000hp. The Turkey derby in Indiana is a great example of this. Some classes in derbies have cars that have thousands of dollars pored into them. So to sum it up, yes some cars do have this much hp. It makes it a lot easier to haul around all that weight.
Doesn't look like there's very many unibody sleds out there. Old solid steel and iron. Do they muddy the pit to create wheelspin? So drivers cannot get traction and speed built up?
Joseph Holcomb A real demolition derby consists of a dirt or tarmac oval and 20+ cars. Last car running or first to cross the finish line in (x) amount of laps wins.
I am wondering: Most derby cars appear to be pre 1990's models, do newer cars make poor derby cars? if they do what will happen to the sport when the supply of usable derby cars runs out?
The old cars have a body on frame design, newer cars are unibody which is weaker and are designed to crumple in collisions where these old cars are a lot tougher. They have different style of derby races for newer cars. Most of what I see are figure 8 or oval tracks for FWD v6 or i4 cars. It's more of a demolition race and is actually pretty exciting.
Does venting the valve covers into the stacks really help anything? I dont see that very often. Any clues on that concept? Wouldnt that draw heat back down in the engine?
venting the crank vent blow by into the exsust just keeps the oil vapors from coming into your can they eather vent befor the carb or throttle body or into the exsust or into a canister they have covers that just vent into engine compartment but then it can get into the car and it looks bad when you open hood and have blow by
Blow by is a thing you know. Some air and fuel squeezes pass the rings and the vacuum from the venturis will suck the fuel out of the crankcase. You don’t want fuel to mix with the oil because fuel is thin, if it mixes with the oil, the oil will be more thin, causing a loss in lubrication. You need lubrication to prevent the engine to seize.
OK People there is 2 things to learn here number 1. if you have a 700hp derby car u have to much money and to much time lol.... Number 2. JDTVEXTREMEVIDEOS those are venturis in the exhaust, they pull a vacuum in the crankcase, rings seat better, more power
truth speaks Ah Ok, ive seen those a few times on those crate motors that get run often in my area. Always wondered about those. Thanks for the info.
it's for a crankcase evacuation setup, lots of drag cars run it when they use high lift cams, the exhaust going out pulls a vacuum on the tubes.
