Yeah, that was three members of British Metal legends Saxon. As for who would win, historically, in the battle for Wessex (where I actually live) the Saxons won, the Vikings had conquered most of what we now call England, by the did not defeat Alfred and take Wessex 🤘🤘🤘
I, just today, showed this band to a kid I'm teaching to play guitar! He asked me what "viking metal" was and I had to show him "Twilight of the Thunder God". He definitely seemed fond of it! Along with that, I'd recommend "Guardians of Asgaard" from them.
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody Seems like he's going at a good pace. He has fun learning new stuff and I think he's enjoying playing on his own just as much. Here's hoping it leads to a life-long hobby!
I really like how Amon Amarth's front singer, Johan Hegg, and Saxon's Biff Byford sound together. Their voices fit perfectly together, as well as all the other musicians from both bands. The video is well made. In the back, there's a battle going on, and up front, the guitars are being shredded. I've also seen their making-of video.
Amon Amarth kicks ass. I've seen them a few times in concert. They put on a great show. This is one of my favorite songs from their recent album. And yes this song features the band Saxon. Highly recommend checking out more Amon Amarth. They've been around for a few decades and have a ton of albums.
Can't go wrong with Amon Amarth. I swear "Twilight of the thundergod" and "Guardians of Asgard" will blow your mind. L-G Petrov from Entombed did guest vocals on the latter.
Good AA tunes: Death in Fire The pursuit of Vikings Runes to my Memory Across the Rainbow bridge Where Silent Gods Stand Guard Twilight of the Thunder God Guardiands of Asgaard Varyags of Miklagaard The Hero Tattered Banners...
Johan, the singer is one of the best growlers around. He has very healthy technique. So they sound great Live, their shows are really good. Definitely a rabbit hole worth going. They are doing a big package tour this spring. So go If You can.
Team Viking here! Great reaction man, and yes that is SAXON and this song really is awesome! With Odin on our side was the very first album I ever downloaded when I got my first iPod (2006), great album! They have an amazing discography, so many songs to pick from. Skol! 🤘🤘
Thank you! I love Amon Amarth! Here we have a blending of Viking metal and power metal in both vocals and instrumentation. I've never heard growling and power metal vocals being done together. Interesting. I think this is a first for Amon Amarth.
The music itself reminded me of Megadeath. It's just a bit more sped up. Plus, you throw in both vocalists. This was really bad ass!! Another song that reminded me of my early teenage years. Love it!
Ok Tommy, you are awesome, another suggestion. from me, Celldweller Switchback 😉 metal head to metal head. A great band that really is a mix of genres .
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody just found out they've done it before. Apparently Saxon made a collaboration with Johan for their song Predator a few years back!
Was a good time watching the video. Saxon def gives me some Iron Maiden vibes lol. I was def not expecting Saxon in Amon video. Lots of good grooves in the music as well. An enjoyable video and music overall, very nice! ♥ and
I usually skip "viking metal" but this was cool. The catchy riff and groove hooked me in from the get go! Maybe I've been missing out on this kind of stuff and once again proving u gotta be open minded to all genres.. The collab with Saxon was an awesome surprise too!
As someone who lives in what was Wessex, I'm team Saxon all the way. Meet you Vikings on Eggars field, your valkarie are going to be bloody busy 😉😁⚔️ I love this song and both bands so much, they are face meltingly brutal
There are so many cool things about this song, but I am always losing it at Johan and Biff trading insults. Now I'm trying to remember if that was a thing the Danes did before a fight, historically, if I'm right this song is even better 😂 Amon Amarth's best album is probably Twilight of the thunder god, the title track is amazing, but I also love Live for the kill, because there are strings there and strings are like catnip for me. Destroyer of the universe is another song you might like.
dude, we are gonna dive into them. I'm going to work on a schedule that helps me hit all the rabbit holes that we are on. I know we have alot of people here that have different taste and I want to appease your appetite.
I like the structure of the song and video. The opening verses set the stage, with the Great Heathen Army having conquered York and Mercia and now heading south, while Alfred the Great's Saxons move to meet them. Then the armies meet and trade insults (and props to Amon Amarth for including some obsure Old Norse insults in there). Then the battle begins, with the dueling guitar solos complementing the soldiers fighting. Then the coda at the end about who will win and rule this English land (spoiler alert: the Saxons won the Battle of Edington). Not as direct as Sabaton or Iron Maiden, but a nice bit of a history lesson hidden away in the lyrics.
Yeah, Amon Amarth is awesome! Btw, you should really check out Cypecore, for example "Dissetisfsctory", "We are one", "Chosen Chaos", "Dreamsmasher" and so on....😎🖤🤘🤖
Listen album Thunderbolt from Saxon..on song Predator is Johan Hegg from Amon Amarth..now is Bif here...absolutly match duet..am big fan of Amon Amarth but also respekt for Saxon..excelent adventure with Saxons and Vikings
Big Amon Amarth fan here. Overall, I think the band has been on the decline for roughly the last decade, and especially their latest album was rather disappointing. A lot of the tracks unfortunately lacked any real spirit or energy. This track though, while a bit cheesy, has those things in spades, and I'm very happy to see they chose this one to make a music video out of. Best track on the album, as far as I'm concerned. If you're looking for some good entry points into their older material, their albums from Versus the World through to Surtur Rising are generally considered to be some of their best. Some classic songs from that era are: Thousand Years of Oppression, The Pursuit of Vikings, Twilight of the Thunder God and Runes to my Memory.
Love how both Saxons and Vikings march with metal shirts and sunglasses...
It was soooooo fun!
Just awesome, like Amon Amarth and I've loved Saxon since 1979 🤘
