    i’m doing my gcses this year and i’m really worried about chemistry😔 the teacher i have this year (who was also my year 10 teacher) has a teaching style that i find really hard to follow, so now chemistry seems 10x more complicated. do you have any suggestions on how I can revise more effectively when I struggle to understand in class? so far i’ve been relying on free science lessons to explain the content, but i feel like i’ll need more resources for other chapters
    also thank you so much for this! i’m planning on starting to revise for my mocks in november so i’ll definitely use this

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  3 года назад +11

      Hi, I mainly used the CGP textbooks and flashcards to help me memorise + learn most of the content. I would maybe try to only learn + understand in class and focus less on noting down everything until you feel comfortable with the content. If you are able to understand the content before you memorise it, it will hopefully become a lot easier.
      Quizlet has many flashcard sets made by other students and make sure you also do past papers/past qus on specific topics which you are struggling on to consolidate your learning. If you stick at it and keep going, you will see improvement!

    • @JadenYee

      Hi, thank you! That's a great way to study! My advice would just do as many past papers/qus as you can to improve exam technique and get used to the exam styled questions. For English lit and lang, I spent a lot of my time revising watching videos from Mr Salles and Mr Bruff going through their student essays and analysis of different themes/questions. This allowed me to come with many more ideas and made answering questions more familiar as the types of questions tended to be quite similar!

    Hey Jaden. My name is Sergio, mate. And I'm from South Africa. I'm in grade 11, and am looking for more ways to improve. I myself embrace failure but at the same time, I wanna get A* for all my subjects. How do I go about studying for these subjects :Business Studies, Physical science, Life Science and English. Can you help me please

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  3 года назад +1

      Hey Sergio, thank you for your comment.
      It's great that you are actively looking to improve and this already tells me you really want to achieve those results.
      I am able to give you a few pointers and hopefully useful advice but it's really up to your own hard work to follow them and see what you work best with.
      I didn't do Business studies so I will not be able to give you any good advice for that since our school didn't allow us to take it.
      For all the sciences (physical and life) I would really emphasise making sure you learn the content with the specification and learn all the factual things first which you will be soon able to commit to memory. Then you should focus on doing as many past paper questions as possible as in the UK, most of the questions are extremely similar so by exposing yourself to more questions, you will be able to be prepared for most of the questions.
      For English, I watched many videos on youtube of people analysing language, stories, full mark essays and that sort of thing. I would then try to come up with a few key sentences and analysis phrases which I would try to incorporate into every essay I wrote. Look at the markschemes and try to see as many as you can, note down any interesting ideas they discussed and then think about what the markscheme would say when you are tackling the question on your own.
      Hope this has helped. I will be making so many more videos focused on how to prepare for individual subjects and how to learn from failutre/ psat papers in a lot more details than this video. Hope to hear more of you in those future videos! Good luck.

      @@sergiobowman7962 Hey Sergio, no problem. I am not really sure since the South Africa education system is probably quite different to the UK system but I can try to give you a few of my sources which I used for my GCSEs and A-levels.
      I would first find out what exam board you are taking for each subject, for example, in the UK I did AQA for all my sciences. Therefore, I would type up AQA GCSE biology (or any other science) past papers. This would bring me to their website which has quite a few of them. The content you are learning is probably different to ours but here is a link you may want to try: www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/science/gcse/biology-8461/assessment-resources
      Another great website is physics and maths tutor: www.physicsandmathstutor.com/

      Hi! Thank you for asking me!
      RUclipsrs: Ali abdaal, Unjaded jade, Kharma medic, Kenji Tomita, Biology carol, allery chemistry, freescience lessons, examsolutions, there are quite a lot out there although their old videos will probably be more useful now!
      For science/maths I recommend examsolutions and physics and maths tutor, you can find these just by searching their name up! For anything else, it really depends but I would suggest going on the website of your exam board and looking at the old past papers there. Even if you do past papers which are in a different exam board, these may still be helpful to you to practice!
      That's great to hear that you want to try your hardest now and asking where to start is always such a good thing to do first as it means you really want this. Little consistent studying will do just fine for GCSE's as long as you are using that time properly. I would recommend using things like flashcards on quizlet/anki and doing a bit of research on techniques such as spaced repetition/active recall which might help! I would also recommend using textbooks like the CGP series for each subject as they really helped me through my GCSE's! I also have a few videos on A-level subjects which also apply to GCSE subjects so be sure to check them out!
      Wishing you the best of luck in everything you do, be sure to update me and tell me how everything goes. You got this 👍

      Hi! Thank you for your kind words, they mean so much to me! Hmm, I always remembered english to be quite hard to get material for since they include so many sources. I bought the 'Mr Bruff's Guide to GCSE English Language' book and his literature one also.
      The main content was very basic but the language book includes a helpful practice paper 1 which he made himself, so maybe that is worth the investment for you?
      Alternative options, assuming you have already downloaded all the exam board past papers, you could use past papers from other exam boards since some are quite similar to each other and you are exposing yourself to alot of unseen content which is always a huge plus.
      Hope this has helped! Goodluck and hope to hear more from you in the future!
