In your video I remembered places I've been. Great hike. Enjoyed your video and learned things for my trip I will be planning with my partner
A lot natural gas wells around there. "Little Tomahawk Lake" in the west with the creek coming out of it and "Tomahawk Lake" east of Little Tomahawk Lake. "Tomahawk Creek Flooding" is south of the other two lakes. It seems crazy to us non-long distance walkers that you can walk this far in a day. I can't imagine walking the fifteen miles across town to my mothers house.
Yes, I always see a lot of gas wells when mushroom hunting but not on this trail. For the past 5 years I've competed in speed records on trails and was doing 55-60 miles per day so this was an easy relaxing hike for me, lol.
Hey Michael! Yes it is...I normally always look for camp near water sources but not always the best decision. I'll be editing the Pinhoti while traveling through FL with my wife over the next two weeks. I recorded 5 hours of footage over those 15 days!! Not sure how to break it up yet...might do two parts, one in each state and both parts will be at least 1.5 hrs long. Not into the short multi part series type videos anymore...I get way more views and watch time on my super long videos so I'm going to give the algorithum what it wants, lol!
Great video! You were a couple of days behind me and my sister-in-law Lisa when you arrived at the Canada Creek Shelter, you captured our journal entry in your video! We are doing the trail in small section hikes and your video gives us a little taste of what's to come on future hikes! Thanks!

Nice hiking video Jason. Very nice network of trails! I never knew you could cook Ramen like that. I thought it had to be in boiling water for 3-4 mins. Learn something new every video.
The way you like hiking and kayaking, I'm surprised you haven't done a packrafting trip. I started to look into it, but it seems like the boats are pretty expensive.

Hey Jason! I haven't been able to watch your stuff much lately but we are down in S.C. again and not only do I have alot of extra time for a long video but I also always think of you when I'm down here. We've enjoyed some Gilbert's, visited Huntington Beach S.P. and then Rugged Mountain Mister and I finally completed the Swamp Fox Passage this year! So we've done the Awendaw Passage, the Swamp Fox Passage and 4 miles of the Lake Moultrie Passage. I noticed a lot of the other passages are much shorter so we may start knocking some of them out as day hikes. I promised Mister we wouldn't do an overnight next year. Anyway, loved watching your adventure here and yes, it reminded me a lot of the Palmetto Trail too in a bunch of sections. There was one shot I have to give you kudos on for your framing. BRS 3000t stove. Ultra-Light, Ultra-cheap, and Ultra-Unreliable. Get yourself a Snow Peak Lite-Max Titanium stove. How are you not afraid of bears. We have property by Clare in the LP and even in that area there are tons of beat sightings. Maybe I’m just weak willed 😕
I've only seen two bears in 35 years of hiking and mushroom hunting in Michigan...they are so skittish and normally will be running away before you ever get a chance to see them. To me they are just like a giant raccoon. Now we did have a brazen bear come into our campsite at a campground once and had to yell and wave our hands to deter it, but that bear was most likely wise to the fact that campground campers have and leave food around.

Very strange, I’m not sure what to tell you, but I did go counterclockwise, and the sign pointed to the left for Duby Lake and everything looks perfectly correct when I look at it through the video…there is nothing mirrored. When you stand and look at the beginning where I started obviously you have to go left to go counterclockwise and that’s which way the trail was and I came from the right.

@ compared to most places in Appalachia, where I’m from.. from the foothills trail to the north placid trail.. 👍🏻.. I’m not there, but seems do in the video..
@ yeah in some areas they definitely were, most likely from all the past logging. But some of the untouched hardwoods were very tall. I just returned from the Alabama and Georgia mountains on the Pinhoti Trail and the trees were much taller.
Lol, like you with the shoes, if I find gear that I really like I'll buy multiples of it as well in case they "improve" with a new model of it. Kuiu is pronounced koo-you, by the way. Emphasis on the koo. Not koo-wee. Great trip and nice vid.

I wasn’t searching for it, but I am aware of it and would definitely like to kayak it someday! The only main two rivers that run through the high country pathway are the black river and the pigeon river
What's the model name of that kuiu sweatshirt you are wearing?
Peloton 97. I love it! Super light and packable...perfect for shoulder season layer.
I split my Pinky toenail about 30 years ago. It still grows in two pieces to this day.
Crazy! Mine just started a new little corner growth all on it's own...weird
Marketing man only
what??
The trees seem a lot shorter in Michigan..
Maybe…compared to where?
@ compared to most places in Appalachia, where I’m from.. from the foothills trail to the north placid trail.. 👍🏻.. I’m not there, but seems do in the video..
@ yeah in some areas they definitely were, most likely from all the past logging. But some of the untouched hardwoods were very tall. I just returned from the Alabama and Georgia mountains on the Pinhoti Trail and the trees were much taller.
Hi Jason try a show company called Flux....
Yeah I've heard of them
@jasonwish- best shoe I have even bought!
This guy talks a LOT.
That’s what my wife says
I'm about to watch this video but in your lead-in footage, you're stripping birch bark off a standing tree. I hope that wasn't a living tree.
Don't remember to be honest, but I tried to just grab the bark that was nearly flaked off already. For the rest of the trip I found deadfall bark.
@@jasonwish- I appreciate your not calling me a Karen for bringing this up. I do anticipate a few Karen comments, however 😆.
Cheap stove
yep but it's the worlds lightest and has never let me down yet....brs3000
@@jasonwish- when it lights your hair on fire we will see if that is considered letting you down. :)
Lol, like you with the shoes, if I find gear that I really like I'll buy multiples of it as well in case they "improve" with a new model of it. Kuiu is pronounced koo-you, by the way. Emphasis on the koo. Not koo-wee. Great trip and nice vid.
