I was in Cleethorpes with @bambinobecky so we took the opportunity to visit one of the country's best fish & chip shops, the award winning Steels Cornerhouse Restaurant, to see if it lived up to the hype.

I used to live in Grimsby and Cleethorpes up until I was 35, and moved to Newcastle on the week the first covid lockdown began in 2020, and to this day I would say I haven't eaten better fish n chips than Steel's. I only ever went once, got the Halibut steak and it was quality, would love to go back and try the haddock now after watching this. Don't know how this came up in my recommendations but I just randomly clicked on it, and glad I did now. Great vid, just for the fact you two were great to watch and the nostalgic value, ya got urself a sub!

Went to Grimsby/Cleethorpes for the footy at the end of 2017. Can't remember where we parked, so can't spot on Google Maps where we had our pre-match f'n'c. I can remember for years prior, footy mates that had been before (including my partner) raving about the quality of the fish but I don't recall being that overly impressed with it (might just have picked a duff spot). But then I did grow up on the coast, so am not easily impressed when it comes to f'n'c. I do recall vividly how shockingly run-down G/C are/were though.
I've been to Grimsby a few times over the last couple of years and had great times. Definitely a few run down areas but there are some lovely bars, coffee shops and other places to hang out. It feels like its on the up!
@@RobbieKnox well that's good to hear. It might just have been the misfortune of where we parked and subsequently where we then walked through to get to the ground. I'm not even certain we went to the pier or walked along the coast especially seeing on the map how close they are to the footy. I think it was cause we had a drive home ahead of us post-match and had driven from a hotel in Hull from the night before - seeing Coach Trip's Brendan in panto of all things!

If a restaurant menu has a vegan/veggie option I like the sound of, then I'm having that and not touching the meat dishes.
I've been ordering the cashew dishes from our local Chinese & Thai for a couple of years or so now (still got another full year's worth to work through) and haven't missed the meat in them.
Oat milk is great in my porridge too, as you can imagine: liquid oats & rolled oats combined!🥛

My mate’s wife is from Cleethorpes and they don’t eat cod because, unlike the civilised world, they think that there are worms in cod that will kill them.
