  • Barcelona, Spain is well know for their beaches. Locals and tourists alike flock to the beaches to surf, sunbathe, eat at one of the many restaurants, or play a game at one of the many activity areas along the route. There are numerous places to sit, weightlifting areas that are actually used, and of course lots of open areas to play volleyball and soccer (football). We trekked from our hotel, AC Barcelona, down to the hotel W. The iconic sailing ship building which is a bit over 4 miles to hike. The hiking is easy and very entertaining. There is always something to interact with and tons of people watching. There are beaches where clothes are optional, so if that is something that bothers you, it is clearly posted. It is possible to rent surf boards and bikes and of course as in any tourist destination, tours and lessons are available. #retireearlyandtravel #retireearly #retirement #lectric #veteransherman #ebike #ebikes #nature #naturelovers #landscapephotography #trail #trails #hike #hiking #hikingadventures #family #sweethearts #foreverlove #barcelona #spain #beaches #beach #boardwalk #sunset #fireworks #peoplewatching
Video correction: I say the Sail Hotel is the Westin. It is not. It is just W - both owned by Marriott.
    Now that is confusing!
    Facilities:
There are bathroom facilities and restaurants all along the beach trail. There are also multiple places to rent beach chairs, umbrellas, and surf boards in addition to lessons for surfing and tours of the area.
    Hotel:
We stated at the AC Barcelona. It was conveniently located close to the Metro, beaches and nightlife. We found the staff at the front desk and housekeeping to be very nice and helpful. We had some air conditioning issues and the maintenance were curt and never resolved the issue. That did make sleeping a bit uncomfortable. The Rooftop Restaurant was FANTASTIC! I think I could spend an entire day just reading a book up there having the waiters bring me snacks and cute drinks (loved the Papa Tiki). The breakfast in the morning was good. It had a wide variety of choices. There was something for everyone and the staff there was very kind and helpful.

    Food:
There are multiple grab and go and sit down restaurants along the beach walk. It ranges from cheap to hand over your credit card. This was our first night in Barcelona, so we were suffering from jet lag, so we went back to the hotel after our walk and ate at the Rooftop Restaurant. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the food is delicious. We actually ended up eating here multiple times because it was absolutely perfect. You do not need to be staying at the AC to eat at the Rooftop Restaurant.

    Languages:
There are a variety of languages heard while walking through Barcelona because it is a tourist destination. Almost everyone in Barcelona speaks multiple languages including English. I never felt uncomfortable or nervous because I only spoke English....although as I travel, I do wish my education could have included another language as a child. I am envious of these folks who speak not only 2, but upwards of 3,4 languages!
