@Stan Z I think you've been listening to chuck too much. I don't remember chuck saying these things when Bruce was alive you can't defend what you can't see coming
I like how at the end of the fight, Bruce doesn't leave right away and go to cover Chuck's body with his gi and prays. Showing that he earned his respect.
Back then Chinese martial artists never certified with ranking belts. The Japanese and Koreans used belt colors. Sifu Bruce Lee beat a real Karate Black in less than 13 seconds.
Chuck actually like that Bruce didn't make him out to be a killer but 2 warriors pitting their skills agaisnt each other.by the way, Chuck wasn't. Bruce' s 1st choice to play Colt, it was Joe Lewis( him & Bruce had a falling out so he got Chuck instead).
It always baffled me, the 2 cars shown after this battle including the Mercedes SL coupe are 80s Models by the headlight design, not '72 models ...... What year was this really made?
No one talks about the most powerful thing of this scene: the mutual respect the two warriors shared. Notice how Bruce sort of "cycled down" when he knew Colt was critically injured and effectively useless, but then resigned himself when Colt stood up; they both knew what was going to happen. The final rush, after Bruce grabbed him and broke his neck, he almost looked melancholy; he didn't like that the battled ended that way, but he knew it had to be. And, of course, in the end, he laid Colt's Gi jacked and belt over him so reverently.
Wow... I uploaded this video back in 2012 as a dumb kid who was just playing around with RUclips, and now it is on its way to 4 million views! There is an interesting anecdote here from 1972. Bruce had already made his mark as a martial arts genius and had recently found fame as a movie star in the Hong Kong action movie circuit. Chuck was the reigning world champion that time. Both met each other accidentally at the hotel lobby in New York. Bruce told Chuck he wanted a fight scene in his next movie with Chuck. He wanted Chuck to be the main villain in Way of the Dragon. Chuck jokingly asked: " So, you want to defeat the world champion?" Bruce said: "No, I want to kill the world champion." Later Bruce said he wanted to film it like a fight between two gladiators in the backdrop of the Colosseum. Accordingly, it was agreed that Bruce would place Chuck's uniform and belt on his body after the fight. Robert Wall, who was a student of Chuck, came to hear about this and said he too wanted his bit in the movie. So, he came as Chuck's student in the film, which he was actually in real life. Later, Robert again came in as a villain in Enter the Dragon and the Game of Death. In a way, Bruce initiated both Chuck and Robert Wall into movies through Way of the Dragon.

Excellent fight scene. But also, you see some emotion. Like when Colt (played by Chuck Norris) struggles to his feet, refusing to submit for the sake of his pride. Tang (played by Bruce Less) shakes his head, trying to tell him to just let it go. Just let it go. Colt refuses and boldly attacks anyway. Tang kills him but you see remorse on his face. Tang respects the honor and courage in Colt to fight in this way. Tang puts his top back on but then looks at Colt's black belt and ghi top. He returns it to Colt, as if to say "You were a warrior, you earned it. If we hadn't been on opposite sides, we might have been friends". Pride, honor, dignity, courage, respect, mercy, remorse. All in a fight scene.
***** Precisely. Those are the things that Bruce intended to convey in these scenes. Two highly skilled fighters, respecting each other, but they just had to finish the job.
Yes Bruce was artful enough to have an epic fight, but with dignity at the end.Chuck was so happy because of that, & I think that's why it's still so great because of the classy way it's done.
Seriously though. This is one of the best moments in cinema history. All through the fight you can feel the respect they have for one another. That's what makes this scene so wonderful. They aren't really enemies but two dudes on a different path. It seems a fight of honour and skill rather than a fight for some crazy boss. I'd shed a tear ... but I don't want Norris to see.
Can't compare the two of them. Chuck was a professional fighter and was the undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion for six years. He and Bruce worked out together for a couple of years and never considered themselves threats to each other. In fact, they learned from each other. That says much about the character of both of them. And don't forget that Norris was the first Westerner to be awarded the 8th degree Black Belt Grand Master in Tae Kwon Do. I had a friend who was the USMC heavyweight boxing champion in the 1960s and who studied Tae Kwon Do. His point was that Chuck's martial arts skills were nothing less than amazing. But, again, comparing his skills to Lee's is like comparing apples to oranges.
By far the greatest fight scene in history!!!!! I get the chills when I watch this. Love when Bruce stands up n starts dancing you know Chuck wasn't touching him again.
Face palming comments saying Bruce Lee only knows how to fight in Films. I believe that he is more of a martial artist than an actor. I don't realize and never heard of his punching power and where people got the facts from but I just take it from my point of view seeing the pub club brawls that break out inside because of people having excess alcohol drinking in Australia and yeh it can be pretty scary or sometimes back in the time where it could happen outside in the street as well in Australia because people were too up in their ego when they're drunk...

One of the few times where chest hair can be used against you lol, I love how Colt is knocked down with an injured leg and broken arm and hears the crack and knows it is broken, looks up and sees Bruce watching him but not attacking him while he was down and helpless, Bruce could have finished him off but he doesnt want to kill or harm the man, just to defeat his attack and be left in peace, he even allows him to collapse without attacking him, its only after Colt sees Bruce shake his head no to not attack that Colt rushes in one last time to try to do his job but he fails and gets his neck broken, Bruce warned him and gave him mercy and pity but Colt just wont take it and give up, he was determined to die or finish his job, surrender was not an option, Then Bruce places his robe and black belt on him and Prays for his soul out of respect for his opponent and his skill, great scene.
When Chuck Norris won the karate championship, him and Bruce Lee trained together. I’m convinced that Bruce Lee could have kicked his ass, but Chuck Norris’ work ethic is off the charts. And they probably respected each other
Every time I think of Chuck Norris I think of that thing from family guy where peters like “I hear Chuck Norris is so tough there’s no chin under his beard there is only another fist” and Brian is like “ that’s ridiculous Peter “ then Chuck Norris shows up and punches Brian with his chin fist
Just realise that when bruce is kicking, he has to actually do air kicking which requires a lot of control, especially at 5:00 he kicks in plain air with such speed!
Everyone here is talking bout the most powerful thing in this scene being Bruce's respect at the end for Chuck Norris .. personally for me it was the cat signaling the battle cry with "MEOOOOOOWWW"! i got chills.
Some say, that day Bruce beat him, Chuck's beard grew. It was like Bruce beat the beard onto him and made him the unstoppable man he is today. RIP Bruce.
When making this Film Bruce Hit Chuck really really Hard by Accident, So Chuck got Serious as,thats part of the reason its such a great fight Bruce put All He had into the Fight. Bruce Lee His work and books are incredible
Actually that request was from many film crews who had Bruce Lee on their cast list. The first instance of that was from when he played Kato in Green Hornet

This battle will be legendary
When Chuck Norris won the karate championship, him and Bruce Lee trained together. I’m convinced that Bruce Lee could have kicked his ass, but Chuck Norris’ work ethic is off the charts. And they probably respected each other
This is a real fight like it should be with honor and respect i know its a film but still.
Wth💀
Lee like “imma let you get the first few blows in but after that, I’m finna whoop ya”
"where's the man from Hong Kong name tang...speak up!?" 🙏🏻🐉
the cat which watched them fight licked a girl and she became catwoman
Just realise that when bruce is kicking, he has to actually do air kicking which requires a lot of control, especially at 5:00 he kicks in plain air with such speed!
Even the kitty was like give it up you lost. Lol
Everyone here is talking bout the most powerful thing in this scene being Bruce's respect at the end for Chuck Norris .. personally for me it was the cat signaling the battle cry with "MEOOOOOOWWW"! i got chills.
Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris fight over who takes the kitten home.
Wonder where that kitten is at now lol jk
only one thing is better than chuck norris... Asian! :(
One of thee greatest fight scenes.... God Bless you Bruce Lee and God Bless you Chuck Norris, Amen
The Kitten got a front row seat.....lucky cat.
Obviously the only reason Chuck Norris lost was because he did not have his beard, we all know when that beard had grown he obtained god hood
Nicko Kriba dude chuck admitted that he would lose to bruce
dandy man No it was the chest hair, Bruce started winning when he pulled some of it off. That is chucks weakness.
Some say, that day Bruce beat him, Chuck's beard grew. It was like Bruce beat the beard onto him and made him the unstoppable man he is today. RIP Bruce.
Chuck Norris was Chewbacca's stunt double in the original Star Wars trilogy.

When asked who would win a real fight, Chuck replied, Bruce was an actor playing a martial artist.

When making this Film Bruce Hit Chuck really really Hard by Accident, So Chuck got Serious as,thats part of the reason its such a great fight Bruce put All He had into the Fight. Bruce Lee His work and books are incredible
We Love you Bruce.. Oakland Ca.
I always thought those cats were fast as lightning but no - they're mostly just sitting around enjoying the show.

Duane Pace hahahaha
Duane Pace Hahaha xD
ahahahhahahahahah
hahahah.... HB = High Bullshit
Chuck said he had to tell Bruce to slow down so the cameras could see what he was doing. A little movie trivia.
Actually that request was from many film crews who had Bruce Lee on their cast list. The first instance of that was from when he played Kato in Green Hornet
Came for the cat, stayed for lee, likes for noris, saved for being the most legendary fight ever
I've been looking for this comment. Because people just don't understand how important, and how needed that cat was for this fight scene. I mean that cat to the fight scene was like ketchup & mustard on a hotdog.
The close-ups on Chuck are all I could ever ask for.
