- Here are some park scenes of West View Park, an amusement park that once operated near Pittsburgh, PA. The park closed in 1977 and a shopping center now sits on the site of the park. These scenes are from WQED's "Things That Aren't There Anymore". A recording of Pittsburgh's past.
I remember those days !!! I lived just up the road from the park , All my family and friends worked at that park , There is videos that you can buy in the town of west view, pa , it tells you about the history of that great park and the stories that are haunting !! when the park closed I was there, whe all the rides were still there , the haunted houses were even scarier, than you can ever imagine !!! it was very quiet on a cold windy day in the winter of 1977 but these days will be mine forever
Such a great park, such beautiful memories of so many years, so wonder to see photos of it. Thanks for sharing them.
Awesome! The turn around on the Dips looks horrifying!
We used to go there for our "School Picnic" every year!. I have since been shopping in the plaza where it used to be- I spent a great deal of time placing where the old rides used to be-
The Seneca Valley school district used to have their annual school picnics there until the park closed. Then they were at Conneaut Lake Park for many years. Now it's Kennywood Park.
Thanks for sharing! My dad worked @ Thorofair (spelling?) supermarket. They had an annual Co picnic there. Also some kind of promotion where u got ride tickets based on grocery sale. We alway got extra ride tickets and went to the park at least one more time that year. Loved the roller-coasters and the Baskets.
its Thorofaire. our school picnic was always at West View. I actually walked through the park alone after it was closed down but not torn down. it was
near dusk and I slipped thru a chain link and walked the length by myself.
It was creepy, as all the rides were intact but overgrown by weeds. and silent.
I hastened out as it got darker. last memory of West View.
I didn't live close to the park so my memories are of Kennywood. Looks like it had some awesome rides. Thank you
Wasnt born until '83 so my memories are a shopping center w/ a bigass parking lot... It is what it is. My memories belong to Kennywood. Still get hammered @ Wiegand's though. That place is old and still in business. And I work @ DiPietros so I never get out of West View much... Loved the vid!
...having been weaned on West VIew Park in the 1950's, little else in the amusement park industry seemed to compare to its allure and excitement; ..a view held to this day!!!!!
TWO GREAT ROLLERCOASTERS
Great!! However, more than a few of the drops on the Dips were edited out. There were 12. Video from a park promo. Chilly Billy Cardille riding on the lift.
if you are familier with the town of west view ! There is a little store Called "Isaly's" which is on Route 19 Perry Highway , Directly across from the west view police station ! and also there is a flower shop that carry's the video as well and some other memorbilia !!
