That first “safe spot” definitely isn’t working for me. I triple checked the video, replayed multiple times, and it’s never been a safe spot for me. Then I can’t survive to run to the second in most tries because he one shots randomly with fire breath, even though I’m maxed in vitality and fire defense. The second safe spot seems to work until he’s airborn, then nowhere is safe apart from the bonfire area - and then he flies off mid fight after spamming breath attacks. Biggest BS boss in the game, second to none. He’s optional and frankly he cheeses.
About he flying off: did you spent a long time in the bonfire area? Normally he flies off as soon we enter the area, so, if you take too long there he will go away. I believe he isn't supposed to be fought until late game, where we can one shot him. But I wanted to see if it was possible to kill him with base stats. But I agree, trying to fight him normally is pure bullshit.
Also, I think it's possible to get a dragon scale, which you may want to invest in upgrading the sword. I think that you can go up to +5 with enough dragon scales, which you can find throughout the game (often by killing a dragon-type enemy).
@@capnheehee8103 Yeah, you can upgrade it but not worth it because it doesn't scale with anything. But it's a great weapon for early game. Did you manage to beat the Hellkite Drake?
@talhead Yeah, just got him today! Thank you. I can't ever seem to move as smoothly as the people in videos do, and I had to use Flash Sweat and FlameStone Ring and the Gold-Rimmed Set to do it (good Fire resist), but I got him eventually. Dude REALLY likes to spam that fire, and I was surprised that I could still die from it even with that much fire resist stacked. Watching his movements and knowing what to expect next seems to be key. And practice. Your video definitely helped me.
@@capnheehee8103 Nice! Yeah, his 'jumping fire breath attack' damage is random, it will eventually one shot you no matter what. I believe Hellkite Drake wasn't supposed to be fought normally, I believe the devs want us to come back later when we can one shot him. That's why his moveset are so bad. But I want to see if I could beat him as soon as I saw him; it's a pain, but it can be done.

Is there a " normal " tactic to defeat him?! Because its true, when he hits you with the fire and you heal on the bridge, the next hit is a onehit... But when you heal next to the bonfire then its not a oneshot anymore?!?!?! Heh ...

No. He drops 10.000 souls and you can get the Drake Sword if you cut his tail.
