    Thanks for the tips on identifying the plant - really struggling to find any blackthorn bushes near where I live. Do you strain the finished product through muslin after passing through a sieve?

      Yes just through a bit of Muslin or a square of cotton / placed over a sieve / over a funnel

    Can you eat sloe's raw straight from the tree? even though I imagine they would be very bitter.

      Sloes are in the same family as plums and cherries so if you're brave you can eat them raw, though they are incredibly sharp and will dry your mouth out before you even finish your first one so I’ve only ever had them in gin

      Thank you. I may just try touching my tongue to begin with then. Sea Buckthorn is very abundant in North West England around the coast. I'll need to wait until next August though before they are in fruit but I'm patient.

      They do look similar and sometimes the sloes can grow quite large to confuse things further.
