    Thank you so much for this video - I got OCPD and dont wanna hurt my baby so I was maybe overthinking but you made it especially easy and pleasant to watch all the way. Good job sir and thanks for the tip for saving my original metalparts - might need em later if I decide to sell my guitar or something!

    Hey man, great video! I have been using this system on all of my guitars for as long as they have been making them. So I felt like I knew all about how to install them. I just got a brand new Les Paul Classic and of course bought a set of these Cliplocks for it. As I began to install them, I thought I might look on RUclips for any tips that I hadn't thought of. I'm a careful guy, and usually hang on to spare parts, but your idea of keeping the other hardware and original strap buttons in the blister pack is golden! I may never need them, but just in case I do, I won't be rummaging through some old junk drawer in five years wondering where I put them. Thanks, bro!

    ...have you ever seen videos of the guys that try and spin their guitars round their neck without it locked on, and nearly kill somebody in the process as they accidentally launch the guitar into the lower atmosphere, or the lighting rig, or at a PA speaker
    My first guitar had a strap that i had actually bolted permanently onto the body 'cos one of the first bands I was in did covers of The Who amongst other rock bands. We did the appropriate Who antics....oh to be a thirteen again
    I still have that no-name Strat copy, and it still works...just in one pick up selection. it needs refretting, a new nut , new scratchplate, new pots, new selector, and New machine head mechanisms~ none of those even match! I am amazed I didn't manage to break the neck on it... although you can see the odd cymbal gorge in the body, when I used my guitar as one big drumstick from the other side of the kit
    Cheers
    ;~) and the shitty bridge and useless trem system needs replacing...
    ...........If i ever won the lottery I think I would get it playable again, and leave all the cosmetic damage, wear and tear, and bloodstains. Yep, there is definitely blood in there somewhere, mainly mine embedded in the fretboard as I have only just remembered my right hand was frequently bleeding due to the deadly bridge....... only to remind me of what it was like to be an early teen playing in bands with your mates! Everything from rock, heavy metal, prog rock and proper punk. I did classical recitals too... but not on that guitar, on a proper classical guitar so could pretend to be refined.
    Verbal diarrhea today ....
    Check out band youtube channel called
    Stillwaitingrock
    Where as they put it, guitarist of Still Waiting, Mason does "the most epic guitar swing fail"
    He doesn't seem too mind it being on youtube, it's been up for years.

    Thank god that's fairly simple, I'm replacing the cliplock straps on an old guitar I got second hand, somehow the previous owner managed to install them wrong, the screws are at the completely wrong angle and jutting out a full inch from the wood.

    Is there like an extension clip so that I can use the same strap on all guitars..??

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  5 лет назад +4

      You can buy just the clip ends that bolt to the guitar... Then you could use the same strap. I just buy the entire straps and leave them on my guitars. I worry about the reliability of the clips if they are constantly clipped and unclipped... Might be fine, I am just superstitious I guess.

  • @marzcovers
    @marzcovers 5 лет назад +2

    Im worried about stripping the inside of the guitar with the screws when reinstalling the strap ends. Is this something to worry about? And if so, how can i prevent this from happening when I install the strap?

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  5 лет назад +1

      The DiMarzio straps come with two different sized screws. Use the screws that match the strap button threads. It will probably make the original strap button threads weaker if you choose to go back to strap buttons. But I'm not taking the DiMarzio strap off so it doesn't matter to me.

    • @marzcovers
      @marzcovers 5 лет назад

      Hank Coffey I mean when installing the DiMarzio for the first time I don’t want the screw to strip

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  5 лет назад

      It won't strip, match the screw size with one of the two sizes that come with the Dimarzio strap. It will screw into the wood.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  5 лет назад

      As long as you have the same size thread or larger, it will drive right into the wood of the body.

    • @ramencurry6672
      @ramencurry6672 Год назад

      If it strips, you can add some toothpicks and Titebond glue or other thin wood objects. Then drill a small hole. If you’re nervous you can send it to a guitar repair shop.

    Hi, can you reuse the factory strap pegs to attach the cliplock strap? I have gold hardware so it would be a shame to replace the gold strap pegs.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  2 года назад +1

      No, you would have to burn bigger holes into the Dimarzio nylon to fit over the pegs... Then that defeats the purpose of a locking strap. Dunlop locking systems have pegs, maybe you can find those in gold.

      Oh yeah. But I usually leave the straps on. So I'm not sure if the buckles ever wear out. They will last a very long time.

    can the strap be installed with the stock screws of the guitar?

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  2 года назад

      Maybe if the screws are long enough. The strap bushings usually require the longer screw. Or risk ripping the screw out.

    I have the yjm cheetah one. Comfortable, but because it's adjustable, where ever I set it ar my desired length, it will slowly slip out of place while I'm playing. I have to figure out how to keep it to stay in the same place. My yjm strap that came with my yjm strat works perfectly. It's not adjustable..like the cheetah.

    • @HankCoffey

      I hear ya Wabin, but I've been using them straps for 25 years, never had one fail... They've been making them since the 80's. I can't find anywhere on the internet where someone is saying they had a Dimarzio strap fail. If fact, all of the failed strap pages are saying get a Dimarzio, they never fail. If Yngwie never snatched one loose, I think they are safe. He's been using them as guitar hula hoops since '83. :)

      You probably needed to use the bigger black screws... The chrome screws are smaller and will strip out some holes. If bigger screws don't work, you'll have to fill the hole in with wood glue and re-drill it. Might be best to have a luthier do it.

      Take and stick toothpick in the hole before you put the screw in. I just put it in and break it off flush with the body. Screw will be nice and tight once again. Worst case it takes two pieces of toothpickX
