  • We're back with a new video, "DAS: Direct Attached Storage Explained Whiteboard Session" We hope this video will be helpful for you.
Welcome to the Tech Talks With JJ Channel.
Are you looking for a simple and cost-effective way to store your data? Do you want to learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of direct-attached storage (DAS)? If yes, then this video is for you!
In this video, we break down the fundamentals of Direct Attached Storage, detailing how it differs from other storage architectures and its key advantages. Whether you're a tech enthusiast, a student, or an IT professional looking to enhance your knowledge, this video provides valuable insights into the world of DAS.
    📝 Topics Covered:
1️⃣ What is Direct Attached Storage?
2️⃣ How does DAS differ from Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN)?
3️⃣ Key components and architecture of DAS.
4️⃣ Advantages and use cases of Direct Attached Storage.
5️⃣ Practical whiteboard examples to illustrate concepts.
DAS is a type of storage that is directly connected to a computer or a server, such as a hard disk drive, a solid-state drive, or an optical drive. DAS is easy to set up, fast, and reliable, but it has some limitations, such as scalability, accessibility, and redundancy.

Thanks for this highly informative whiteboard session.
For the Enterprise Disk Array, what I understood from one of the last few sentences you made is that DAS can use FC as well. Is this correct and will it also require SAN switches or without.
My reason for asking is that I have been of the opinion that DAS are connected to only one host (1:1) so may not need a SAN switch. Kindly help clarify further.

Enterprise storage arrays also have fiber channel ports that allow servers to be directly connected to the device, with no need for a fiber channel switch. This would be considered a DAS. Only when switch(es) are used, is it considered a Storage Area Network. I hope this makes sense, if not let me know 🙂
