I wasn't sure anyone would actually do this. From someone who is upgrading from a Rift to Quest 2, this really puts it into perspective. Good luck today!
I'm upgrading from Rift CV1 to Quest 2, so am exciting to see the visual quality improvements. I also own an Oculus Go for media, but Quest 2 should replace that as well.
@@studentatlhs5424 I agree with the screen door effect issue. Honestly, I haven't even used my CV1 in almost 2 years, just collecting dust. I really wanted a higher resolution display to make the experience better. Also, the ability to go full wireless with a good quality 5GHz router is a much anticipated upgrade as well.
It might not look like when you look at the resolution number of each headset, but 1832x1920 has 3 times more pixels than 1080x1200. The increase is huge.
Except that 99.9% of recent immigrants vote Democrat, and I'm already a blue state refugee and running out of non-blue cities to flee to. Please, make more VR, but take the red pill!

@Sphere Of Light Are the pixels really noticable on naked eye like how it's like on the video and under the camera? I've always thought about buying an HTC VIVE in VR, and now that I'm definitely planning to buy a headset in this month, I dunno, this video kinda made me think twice and step back. I might even go with the Rift. What do you say mate?

I'm still rocking my 7 year old vive headset, nearly going to be 8 years old, has a broken strap on 1 side held by gorilla tape LOL but it's be holding for 3 years fine. Still runs perfect, controllers are good still But I think I'm ready to upgrade to the big screen beyond or the pimax crystal... It's been crazy with this Vive, forever be on my retired gaming gear display :)
The HTC Vive in 2023 still seems to be really cool. I haven't used VR since 2017 when I had the Oculus Rift - I was so excited about it, but I just couldn't get the image clear. I remember trying the HTC Vive and much preferring it, but it was sooo expensive. I gave up. But looking again now, wow the Vive is actually affordable.... I know the Quest 3 is out, but for the price and since most of the games I originally bought are PC, I might just get one! Also, it just looks super cool from the outside anyway ;)!
@Salt Maker yes it is, I currently own the rift s and quest 2 and can personally account for the fact that the rift s has noticable but not bad sde, while the quest 2 has literally none whatsoever.
@Salt Maker the lenses are exactly the same on both headsets and I have no problem with either one, the blacks are about the same as well, and finally the colors on the quest only seem washed out on link which my be due to the fact that with link it's apparently being upscaled from 1440x1600 to the native res which leaves the pixels with less information to work with in order to determine the exact color needed for that pixel. I havent had an issue with colors on standalone personally but if they are I'm sure they will be fixed soon, the headset did just release today.
Got my Quest 2 today and decided to play Vader Immortal series the lack of "black" bothered me for about 10 minutes then the utter crispness of everything else made me smile. More than happy with my purchase. Thanks for the video and good luck today!

I just upgraded from my 3 camera Rift set up to the Quest 2. It's amazing how close the tracking is. The only problem I have is now I can't twist my body because the headset won't be able to see the controllers. Other than that, it's been SUCH a worthwhile upgrade. This is good enough until better tracking cameras/wider FOV is available. I can't justify spending another $700 to have the index. Also, Wireless SteamVR is incredible. What a product.
Wireless steamVR seals the deal for my upgrade. I was able to expand my playspace to a huge 12x14 ft and it is incredible how much the cable breaks immersion. The drop in quality, even on a normal 5ghz access point placed in the other room, is minimal. Even with compression, it still looks so much better than the original Rift.
Thanks for putting this video together, it's impressive how far VR headsets have come in a very short time. Not just quality of image but simplicity of use and don't forget price! Best of luck on your exam!
I'm considering upgrade my old Vive to quest 2. Its been 1 year. Are u happy with it? How exactly does it work on PC? You can install and play the games ur PC handle and see in the Q2 wirelessly? That would be a huge surprise to me. My Vive is with problems. I do believe it is with the main cable. Image flicke and it shows nothing after couple of seconds.
Your VIVE footage looks exceptionally well in comparison to Rift. In reality when I was testing both headsets in 2017, Rift clarity especially on region outside center was way better than on Vive. I guess it depends on particular unit and maybe on camera placement and setup when you film it.
Got mine today! Here are some of my points: - The FOV can be bad with the smallest and biggest FOV setting - The strap is harder to adjust - Face pad is not very comfortable and feels like felt - When you put the controller and things right next to your face, it starts to disappear a little earlier - You can’t use the power cable as link or play while charging because it is so short - The black looks more like a dark gray - Not too much lighter than the original quest - A lot smaller - Elite strap is ESSENTIAL
Mentioning the strap and the facial interface, there is going to be a huge third party modding community and a variety of products soon. Unlike some other headsets, you aren't stuck with what they ship you. I'm personally excited for some cheap third party strap with a large battery to show up on Amazon. And regarding the cable, any USB 2.0-3.0 cable works fine with link which is fantastic. Even a fully tricked out Quest 2 will be around $400-$500. Still an insanely good deal even if the core of the experience had some cost cutting. And the sheer modularity of the system is impressive. I haven't heard anything about the slightly clipped FOV on the highest IPD being bad, even ThrillSeeker said it's a non-issue.
RyanExx I also got mine today. This most likely will not effect a lot of people, but I have noticed I need to use my reading glasses with the Quest2. No matter how much I adjust it still has some small blur. Tried my glasses 1.25 and it looks great. Don’t need them for rift s or original Quest. Maybe it’s the lack of IPD adjustment. Not sure.
As someone who is coming from a Vive, I do not find it uncoftrable at all. The strap is good. The FOV is good, it feels light (probably only for me lol), and for me the face pad feels great! It doesn't effect me at all and I find it pretty comfy! This might just be because it fits me so well. And the price
Although, I hear everyone keep talking about the "deep blacks" with OLED, etc., and honestly, I haven't been able to tell the difference. My Quest 2 looks great, and I've had Quest as well.
Can we have a g2 vs quest 2, but with virtual desktop so we can actually compare the sharpness of the displays, with the actual high resolution of the quest 2, or just compare with updated quest games without link. I want to see them compared at their best states, so it's an actual fair comparison.
@@miguelmojica5897 I still didn't recieve it. I'm ordering it from USA when I'm in Russia. It's probably gonna arrive in next two weeks. I'll answer when I get it.
It makes me feel pretty good that even though I have an almost 3 year old OG Samsung Odyssey, the SDE on the Rift and Vive are still just as bad. But it might finally be time for an upgrade.
I like how your room has windows and daylight when just about every youtuber has a dark room with LEDs, it's nice to see a mix of the outside and inside, feels more natural. I'll get a Quest2 if they ever hack the FB requirement, until then the G2 is a no brainer.
Is the F1 vid showing Quest 2 slowed? It's not smooth at all! I love your energy. It's not overly excited and in ya face. Always a pleasure to come to you for advice!
Wow the screen door effect on the vive is insane. Welp thank you for all these videos while I have waited for my new quest 2 but at long last it has arrived at my home and as soon as I get home from work I am gonna see for myself how good it really is! Thanks again !
3:42 how did you manage to enable the yellow center dot in VR. What setting controls it? AFAIK, this element of UI does not appear in the VR. Perhaps it was actually recorded from the flat screen?
Good luck on the exam being a U.S. citizen is something the ones who are blessed with take for granted. Im new to PC gaming and VR so I'm absorbing all the info I can before purchasing equipment.
As somebody who’s been fortunate enough to use the Rift DK2, PSVR, VR Arcade headsets and own the Rift CV1, Vive, and Valve Index I can finally say that this is the first headset where I honestly can’t see the screen door during use. It finally feels the same as looking at a monitor. Yes there is still room for improvement resolution wise as you can tell you are looking at a screen, but now it’s looking at a screen instead of looking at a screen through a matrix of lines. Fine details are amazing. I sold my Valve Index for this headset. You may think I’m crazy but I was tired of the lighthouse base stations and having to recalibrate steam VR if they got moved. The FOV on the Quest 2 is roughly equivalent to the Index with the eye relief maxed out and I would gladly give up those few degrees of FOV for how clear things are now. Also the difference in weight and size is insane compared to the Index. If I have kids one day I can’t wait to tell them that I got to see Virtual Reality become... a Reality.
So you spent all that piles of money on VR headsets and didn't try Samsung Odyssey+, the best VR headset ever produced? I have it since 11/2018 and screen-door effect is invisible, thanks to anti-side technology. Perfect colors, perfect razor-sharp sharpness, perfect resolution of 2880x1600 (Vive Pro has the same OLED, but without anti-sde!), plus built-in high-quality headphones from AKG. All this for 230 USD. You wasted your money and time on Oculus crap, Pimax beta products and overpriced, low quality Vive products. Odyssey+ was and is the best VR headset, still. Don't talk about tracking - it is perfect since more than 1 year.
I just recieve my Quest 2 today, i work on HTC Vive before and Quest 1 and pimax 8K ( But the resolution was to high for work correctly and not really stable on steamVR so i dont really use it ) the gap was huge, but btw the HTC Vive and Quest 2 is not a gap anymore, it's the grand canyon the 350$ now the VR is accessible for anyone
I got my quest 2 today and I can say that I am pleasantly surprised. I have the rift cv1 and I do feel like the quest 2 with link cable is a worthy upgrade
It would be cool if you could make a website or something where u can compare through the lenses of headsets in any order you want! You have similar pictures for most headsets so if you find a way to do it, it could be pretty cool!
he was living in a basement since he published his video about arizona sunshine on Quest-Quest2 and PC. NOW he's hoping with that video he will be able to see daylight again in his life ! Maybe another comparison will be needed : so, cardboard-virtualboy and quest 2 is on the way ?
I've noticed a few games(Super Hot, and Red Matter) seem to kick on the fans to noticeable levels. Do you find this as well? Its not so loud, but it is noticeable.
Ok I got a quest 1 my girl says its to heavy ordered halo strap to help I hope. But looking to get newer one so for comfort and quality i can get at same price. If you had to pick which one would you pick? Rift s, quest 2, odyssey, r cosmos?
I have two questions. First one is the virtual stock you showed in the all accessories video for the original Quest, does it work with Quest 2 controllers? Second one is does the Vive DAS (Frankenquest) fit on the Quest 2?
Did you use the quest 2 stand alone or with the link? I'm interested in PCVR, not stand alone, but some seem to think the quest 2 has a downgrade when using the link?
Is it possible to capture the difference in black levels? In these videos they look about the same. But people have been complaining about it. Not sure if it is adjusted in the video.
Awesome! As someone who still owns & plays the Rift I really appreciate this video. I'm hoping at some point you'll do a similar comparison with the Reverb G2.
Thank you for all the work you do! You showed me how to swap out my OG Vive lenses and can't go back to anything lol. Just got 2 Oculus Quests for 2 of my friends to play and am banking on your videos for comparisons!
Does it have virtual movie theater? i will probably not going to use it on gaming much. I miss the old Samsung VR for my old galaxy s6. It has realistic movie theater environment.
I bought a vive back in 2017. The screen door effect is honestly too much. In the heat of a game you can forget it is there but you notice it once things aren't frantic. It is so jarring and makes noticing minor details hard, if not impossible. The text from Elite Dangerous is honestly spot on. Unless your face is up against it you just cannot read it and even when your pressing your head to it, it's not exactly clear. The pixels are too large and easily distinguished to allow text to be discernible. I'd put my vote on the Quest 2.
is the display on the quest 2 really bad at showing colours (blue tint. barely any difference between the blue and white section) or is that your camera's settings adjusting?
I have a vive (display broken now) but when the display was good the screen door effect was super bad. I’m upgrading to a quest 2 (I know I’m a little late but good luck)
Just got a Quest 2. Coming from a Non biased, non payed by Facebook user, I can tell you the screendoor is still there. SDE is NOT elimated. From all these glorious reviews, I got a little too excited. While it does look nice.. It is just a slight improvement over the Rift-s. Of course it's better than an original rift or Vive. The screen is not bad. It is sharp (a little more than Rift-S). But don't listen to all those who say the screen door is only there if you look for it!! No. I see it! It a little better, but It's still there!!!!!! If your gaming its ok. But for movies, It's NOT there yet. This is just the 1st hour of looking at it.. so Maybe it will look better later... don't know. At IPD of 68 so far it is ok on setting 3.
Please can you give me an update of your experience? I have right now a Samsung Odyssey first gen, wich has somewhat better screen than rift first gen and I'm thinking on do the jump. The sde on the odyssey is better than a rift but nothing else more maybe 10% better. Should I buy a quest 2? or maybe stay a little longer with my older odyssey? Thanks in advance.
@@capipj So going back to my Rift-s today, I definitely saw a big difference between the devices. So now, I can say that the Oculus Quest 2 is better. So if you get it, I think you won't be disappointed.
The Quest 2 resolution is certainly miles better, but the color of the scene looks very unnatural and blue compared to the other two, especially in Project Cars 2. I wonder if that's due to the LCD panel or if it's the Oculus Link image compression causing it. Great video. Hopefully mine arrives soon so I can see it for myself.
Wow, despite the Rift CV1 being OLED, even the blacks look better on Quest 2 at times, probably because of more God rays on the CV1. So, all round the Quest 2 looks like a very nice jump forward and upward.
Do you think I should try and sell my HTC Vive for the Oculus Quest? I can get a similar price selling it due to the basestations boosting the price massively so the upgrade wont cost much
I still can't decide. I have the OG Vive, ordered and returned the HP G2, couldn't get it running, and finally after 7 weeks got a refund. I'm sad cause I really wanted it to be the holy grail. Not sure if the Index is going to satisfy me on clarity. Too bad there wasn't a brick and mortar store where you could try these things. Tell you one thing however, I will never trust another HP product ever again. What a gong show. I'm kind of hoping Valve comes out with a 2.0 that has the clarity of the HP along with the FOV.
I sold my rift S very cheap in a rage because fb didn't give oculus tv support. when I heard about micro monsters I wanted to watch it on my expensive rift S.... end of the story. Would like to join back in with a stand alone headset. hope there will be a pro version of quest 2.
This was exactly the comparison I was looking for. I have an original Rift and was wondering if it was really worth it to upgrade. Now I know the answer is yes!
thank you so much for doing this. me still playing on the original vive and thinking of upgrading, i now cannot wait since this looks like a substatial update! good luck on your exam!

Although, I hear everyone keep talking about the "deep blacks" with OLED, etc., and honestly, I haven't been able to tell the difference. My Quest 2 looks great, and I've had Quest as well.
Plus deep blacks are more important in Movies than they are in games...you don't look at complete darkness much unless it's a horror game
I'm upgrading from the original Vive and this is exactly what I've been looking for, thank you!
I'm upgrading from the OG Vive too. How do you like the Quest 2?
Same, is it really worth it? Can you tell me your experience with the upgrade?
Can we have a g2 vs quest 2, but with virtual desktop so we can actually compare the sharpness of the displays, with the actual high resolution of the quest 2, or just compare with updated quest games without link. I want to see them compared at their best states, so it's an actual fair comparison.
Yes please I want to see how the quest 2 can hold up to the g2 with pcvr
I'm upgrading from Vive to Quest 2 and this video is handy to know what is the improvent, thanks!
Hi there. Did you end up upgrading? If you did, how do you like the change so far?
@@miguelmojica5897 I still didn't recieve it. I'm ordering it from USA when I'm in Russia. It's probably gonna arrive in next two weeks. I'll answer when I get it.
Thanks for the reply, Maximxls
@Game Over rip
Through the lenses!!! HTC vive pro 2 vs hp reverb g2
It makes me feel pretty good that even though I have an almost 3 year old OG Samsung Odyssey, the SDE on the Rift and Vive are still just as bad. But it might finally be time for an upgrade.
And FOV ? This is the most important thing.
WHY EXCLUDING VALVE INDEX ? and only comparing with the 2015's vive ?
Is this with the link cable? You never explained in the video...
It's come a long way. Wow. I decided to go the G2 but this is still a very impressive leap from those OG headsets.
So regarding the Vive. What you're saying is that once you went black you can go back?
Curious as to why the AC footage is so choppy in this and other videos on the Quest 2
My grandmother took maybe 15 years to get full U.S. citizenship, so I am really happy if you are able to pass the exam. Good luck, man!
Your happy energy is contagious haha
Crazy to think about that I bought my Vive 1 for almost $1000 in 2016. Time for an upgrade!
using the lynk cable you notice the data compression and delay compared to a PCVR in fact?
Not at all, only thing is for us we’ll have to wait for the update before having full resolution.
he was living in a basement since he published his video about arizona sunshine on Quest-Quest2 and PC. NOW he's hoping with that video he will be able to see daylight again in his life ! Maybe another comparison will be needed : so, cardboard-virtualboy and quest 2 is on the way ?
Lul wtf
Should you not have used the more up to date vive pro comaring to the other two newer headsets?
I've noticed a few games(Super Hot, and Red Matter) seem to kick on the fans to noticeable levels. Do you find this as well? Its not so loud, but it is noticeable.
Best of luck Ty, I know you'll crush it.
pass that test my dude. I don't want you to go away. I watch all of your stuff!!!
3:18 - quest just beats the other two by miles
He did the Same Video with G2. Vs. Rift Vs. Vive. ruclips.net/video/pHNqow7ltbg/видео.html
@@Der_Joghurt_Ohne_Ecke Wow. Can't believe I missed this one! Thanks for pointing it out! ✌
Most important video for me when it comes to deciding.
I have only ever used a vive and rift's up to CV1.
Thank you for all the work you do! You showed me how to swap out my OG Vive lenses and can't go back to anything lol. Just got 2 Oculus Quests for 2 of my friends to play and am banking on your videos for comparisons!
I owned the original HTC Vive and sold it over 3 years ago for $300. I was hoping to jump back into the VR space...looks like it's time. Great video.
I'm still rocking my htc vive from 8 years ago, I think VR has advanced A LOT so it's time to move on, and thinking to go for the big screen beyond
watching this in my quest 1 lol
Questception
Lol
Haha nice bro
Are you using the Quest 2 with link? Because for me link on the Quest 2 looks exactly like on the Quest 1
Sorry if I missed it but was the quest 2 tethered? I'm assuming so
Great evolution !
bro, that's such a good comparison video. best of luck with ur test mate.
the refresh rate of Q2 is bad... looking forward to 90 Hz unlock
is the display on the quest 2 really bad at showing colours (blue tint. barely any difference between the blue and white section) or is that your camera's settings adjusting?
SHeesh, was the gen 1 Vive grainy or what?! Thought it was about the same resolution as the Rift gen 1? Why does it look so much worse?
Got mine my very first vr, this is crazy nuts. This little unit is great, if you got the power to drive it on the link it's also great.
I have a vive (display broken now) but when the display was good the screen door effect was super bad. I’m upgrading to a quest 2 (I know I’m a little late but good luck)
This is perfect. Thank you. Exactly what Ive been waiting for.
I wouldn't be surprised if something is released to change color levels, like what you can do with the Valve Index to correct the colors
Can you try the oculus link cable ?
And compare the video to rift s and see if there is any latacey or image lost?
Wow, despite the Rift CV1 being OLED, even the blacks look better on Quest 2 at times, probably because of more God rays on the CV1. So, all round the Quest 2 looks like a very nice jump forward and upward.
Hi friend, towards the end of the video u showed a game in oculas quest 2, what is the name of that shooting game? Thanks
Do you think I should try and sell my HTC Vive for the Oculus Quest? I can get a similar price selling it due to the basestations boosting the price massively so the upgrade wont cost much
10/10 Finally a good comparison video! Upgrading from Rift CV1 to Quest 2. Hanging on to Oculus since DK2
Upgraded from CV1 to Quest 2 and the difference is massive! :D
Please can I use VIVE Cosmos Elite Headset just for developing the vr apps ?? Thx
I’m confused about the vibe because I have the original commercial vive and it does not look that blurry
What method did you use when running PC VR content on the Quest 2? Was this the Link, Vitural Desktop or Wifi 6?
Most likely the link.
I hope everything went well today.
You deserve it.
Be safe out there!
CV1 with DLSS around 1.5 is still pretty competitive. It improves quality by a lot...
Is it me or the refresh on the quest is really low, or why does it seems that cars go by like ghosts?
This was exactly the comparison I was looking for. I have an original Rift and was wondering if it was really worth it to upgrade. Now I know the answer is yes!
why moving cars are so blurry in quest 2 comparing to other headsets?
Thank you so much!!
The test is just Quest 2 without the link cable?
probably it was link cable since Asseto Corsa is only PC vr
Hey Tyriel, can you make a video showing Valve Index with supersampling compared to G2? does it gets closer in terms of resolution?
Quest 2 looks amazing but if the compression does not improve I think CV1 is still better. At least when you are in vr.
thank you so much for doing this. me still playing on the original vive and thinking of upgrading, i now cannot wait since this looks like a substatial update!
good luck on your exam!
so why is the cheapest headset most good looking? what does the others provide that's better?
Please show the DCS comparisons!
I got the quest 2, I upgraded from a CV1 (Rift) and I still think my CV1 is way better than the quest 2. Unless you have no pc.
quest 2 have position tracking and detect walk like vive?
Have been using a rift Cv1, quest comes in sometime this week, super stoked!
Can you do Quest 2 with link vs Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop please
