    I pre-ordered the G2 and I have the CV1 currently. Im Glad to Sée this video. Rift S was not Worth to upgrade,. Index is too expensive. I think its a naturel upgrade for many CV1 and vive owners. Price is good, no more screen door, G2 just Makes sense.

    • @tigerleon10
      @tigerleon10 4 года назад +1

      The valve index will always be the number 1 pick since it has the best refresh rate and PPI. And the wide FOV with a really good tracking as well.. But the price on the other hand is another subject. I currently own a quest with a link cable and my next upgrade will be the valve index.

    • @jackr.749
      @jackr.749 4 года назад +3

      Going from a CV1 to a G2, as long as your computer (especially GPU) can handle the G2, you will be blown away, I did go from a CV1 to a low end WMR headset (Lenovo Explorer), then to a Rift-S, then to a Odyssey Plus and now am using a Index. So I wasn't as WOW'ed by the Odyssey Plus and Index due to my gradual resolution upgrades, so the G2 might not impress me as much as someone like yourself coming from a CV1 or OG Vive (both are the same resolution, Vive just has a more pronounced screen door effect). Enjoy your G2 when you get it! :)

    • @tigerleon10
      @tigerleon10 4 года назад

      @@jackr.749 Would you say I should buy the valve index or the G2? I would love an index since it has better tracking and finger controllers plus the high refresh rate? I don't see spending like 700 euros for the G2 when I just can get the index?

    • @tigerleon10
      @tigerleon10 4 года назад

      The point is... spending 700 euros or how much it costs I'm just better off spending 1000 euros on a beastly VR headset right?

    • @jackr.749
      @jackr.749 4 года назад +1

      @@tigerleon10 This is only my opinion. Since I've not tried a G2, I can't really comment on how much better the visuals are. As soon as I found out the G2 was going to be Windows Mixed Reality, I lost interest. One of my main reason for getting a Index was for the Lighthouse tracking, it is the best there is at this time. The headset itself is pretty good, the lenses do have a small sweet spot maybe a bit bigger than the OG Vive but once you get in that sweet spot, it's WOW, I love the displays they are using, and with it being a Valve headset, in Steam VR, you not only can change the refresh rates from 80, 90, 120 and 144hz, but you can adjust the brightness of the displays. Also the controllers of the G2 are a improvement over previous WMR controllers but have a long way to go, no capacitive buttons which you can just touch without pressing them (even Oculus Touch controllers have this). On the other hand, the Index controllers are a whole new ball game, granted, it took me a couple of weeks to get use to them but now, they are truly amazing controllers, playing HL Alyx and other VR experiences with them is a joy.
      Personally, I feel the G2 would be best suited for people who play flight or racing sims, then agreed, this would be a fantastic upgrade since a lot of Simmers never touch the controllers, but for general VR use, I would take the Index over the G2 any day of the week. The biggest problem with the Index, is the long wait to get one once you hit the "order" button, I'm in western Canada and took me 11 weeks and 1 day to get mine. LOL
      I very much like my Index. :)

    Would you be able to do a comparison of the black levels? I know you can't do it with a through the lens video but you could use a solid black image that fills the headset then load a black image into photoshop and adjust it to how it looks in the headsets, would have to keep checking in the headsets to make sure it's as accurate as possible (also have to have your eyes close to the monitor) Then put the black squares side by side and upload to imgur. I know they will be different shades when viewed on different devices but we should be able to see the difference between each one. Using an oled monitor or screen with excellent black levels when editing the images would show the most accurate results.

    Damn I can't wait on my g2 to arrive hopefully next month, preordered it and will be upgrading from a rift. This just shows how much better it is going to be, the reverb g2 gets rid of the, for me, most annoying things: Screen door effect and the lens glare of bright things on a dark background. And damn screen door effect on the vive is bad, never used that one.

      i don't see the point in that myself but OK. You've got half the resolution on the Index + SDE, no matter how much supersampling you add you can't change that. I think G2 at half resolution likely looks better than Index at full resolution due to the pixel fill and essentially zero SDE.

    • @alexanabolic5099
      @alexanabolic5099 4 года назад +1

      @@stevetb7777 the point is just that every body run games with the highest supersanpling their pc can handle, because it looks better. Games looks better with super sampling, this is a fact. • @stevetb7777

      @@alexanabolic5099 True fact, but I don't supersample at the expense of noticeable fps loss. I know what the Index looks like with supersampling, it's better and like I said can't make up for the resolution / SDE. Using my Index I'm left wanting no SDE and greater res / clarity and even bigger FOV. Using the Reverb G2, I'll just be wanting bigger FOV. =D
      You'll never know what it really looks like though without trying them for yourself. The through the lens stuff serves as a very rough idea.

Without at least an attempt at a solution to this problem, I think VR is a non-starter for me - regardless of resolution or FOV. So both Vive and Rift were just a little better than 1080p headsets. We are at just above 1440p headsets now and the Reverbs are the first at 2160p. I am not ready for 4k but just above 1440p with higher refresh rate is pretty good for at least until the 40xx cards come out. If they do make some slightly under 4K with a bigger FOV than the Index and OLED I would probably get it. Something like 1900x1900 each eye would be perfect for what we have out in terms of processors and graphic cards now unless more people are getting 3070 and above and have a 4.5Ghz or higher processor.

    • @comdudeskip
      @comdudeskip 4 года назад +1

      Having moved from a 1440p headset to the revised Reverb G1, I can safely say, that, if your eyes are reasonable, 1440p is awful compared, in terms of detail, clarity and especially SDE. Going back to it, is just not usable, once you've see the clean, detailed view of VR at 2160. And that's with just a GTX 1080 and i7 4790K, happily running practically everything at 100% SS.
      Of course, we still could do with more resolution, especially for desktop work, and to get rid of pixel alaising and the last slight graininess left of the displays in VR. OLED would also be a nice boost, you can see how much richer the colours and brightness are in the above, with the Vive's. It'll be interesting to see the non-RTX benchmark performance of the 3000 series, to get an idea of how high res can go for VR games.

    Hi Tyriel. I think you should have went with the Rift-S instead of a CV1 for a evolutionary comparison. Just to show how things have come along in 3 years, the Vive was well known for it's bad SDE, then the Rift-S with it's smaller upgrade in resolution and even maybe a Vive Pro, or Odyssey or Index and then the G2. All of which are evolutions in VR resolutions. Another great through the lens video (if you didn't already make it) would be Vive Pro vs Odyssey Plus vs Valve Index, all the same resolution but so very different. Thank you for all you do, I love these through the lens videos. :)

    Yes I have seen your standard video comparisons over and over and they tell me some things on how much better the HP Reverb G2 is.
    But until I can put on the HP G2 VR headset for myself and and see what Night viewing BLACK's are in my SIM racing games, I will never be sure that this HP G2 is any better with BLACK's than my Oculus Rift S.
    Right now, with the Rift S, SIM night racing is really noticeable and the greys really stand out moving around the tracks, doesn't feel natural. Would the HP Reverb G2 be any better, I dont know??????
    Until a fellow SIM racer buys the HP G2 and tries the night time SIM racing and says yes it is much better, I guess I will stick with my Rift S. Your black tests you have doesnt seem to prove to me that the BLACK's are any better.
    Anyway, thanks for the video
