    I have a 1200s, trellis frame, single sided swing arm, and big red tank. Just massively aggressive as a Monster should be.

    I’m glad my first Ducati Monster had the trellis frame, because when I was younger when I saw that in the movies or on TV I knew that was a Ducati. After your run down this reminds me of the front engine vs mid engine Corvette conversations I hear every day at the Chevy dealership. This is still a gorgeous bike and I’d buy one in a heartbeat! I’ll just have to paint parts of the frame red and that will be reminiscent enough for me haha!

    My previous monster was a 797... It needed to lose some weight and this is exactly the change that needed to happen! Looking forward to getting on the new Monster!

    • @asmforce
      @asmforce 3 года назад +2

      Totally agree. I loved my 797+ (it was white with a black trellis frame just like in this video) a lot for it's look but it wasn't as good from performance standpoint. It was heavy (maybe not as heavy on a paper as it feels in real life), a bit bulky and it used to have a stupidly narrow steering lock.
      Now I see they did a good job fixing what wasn't particularly good about that bike.

    • @That_Cajun_Guy
      @That_Cajun_Guy 3 года назад +1

      @@asmforce The weight distribution was absolutely terrible on the 797 and agreed with the steering lock. For a city commuter it wasn't designed well for city commuting. Besides those two things, loved it lol

    Dude, its beautiful... This is the bike that originally turned me on to Ducati. It always looked like it was held together with magic and this one really hits that deconstructed, minimalist look. Most people are boring and can't handle change. lol. Dig the red on the wheels too... Currently LOVING my desert sled.

    Very well said. Gave a good idea and philosophy behind the Monster range. I own a 94 Monster. And I am very excited about the 937. As long as they keep it light, simple and a L twin, it is a monster. It is like the 996 switched to water cooled flat 6 for better cooling and packaging. They cant just keep selling the old products to the existing fans. They need to sell to new customers to keep the product alive. For those must have a trellis frame, there are plenty on the used market.

    It is a pure cost reduction measure for Ducati and is a bolt on job. But lower weight is a nice benefit even though trellis frames a more of a art work.

    Have a 2012 1100 Evo, last of the 'real' Monsters! The change in frame does not stop me from eventually having an upgraded, improved, 'with the times' Monster (likely the 937). Looking to get an 821 soon for commute to work and back, I'll likely keep the 821 & fore sure will not part with the 1100 Evo! 😁
    Would love to have a 1200S but really can't justify it, unless it were a deal that just could not be passed up 😁
    15:16 Hmm! How about a great deal on a 937 w/Termi exhaust? 🤔😁

  • @KTMSAS-Duc1200S
    @KTMSAS-Duc1200S 3 года назад +4

    To me, my 1200S looks and feels premium like a Ducati should. Trellis or no trellis, does not replace my bike or make me want it for many reasons such as looks & power.
    Ok if Ducati wants to go another direction, it’s just not for me… and I am a 100% monster fan. I am being pushed up to a Streetfighter it appears, by Ducati, which is CONSIDERABLY more $$ than Monster 1200. I was hoping, along with many Monster 1200 owners that Ducati would do something for us faithful Monster guys, but this ain’t it. Sorry.
    Great job on the video Marty and I completely understand your points. Thanks for the info! But it solidifies it for me that I’ll need to do something else when I am ready to purchase a new bike next year. I hope it’s successful for them and they hit their demographic. I’m not sure what I’ll buy now.

Love the look of the rear wheel without swing arm and short pipe. Granted technology advances but to disband an iconic style! Loose the weight by fitting carbon components as standard. Does the consumer really need or notice the extra bhp? It’s a street bike not a track bike. Looks nice but as a prospective buyer I’d go for the last of the 1200 single swing arm units. Outside of the lowered seat option, there is no kit (like what is available for the new Monster) available for the SuperSport.

    Since you mentioned the ktm 890r with the same weight. It has a trellis frame 😂. Trellis or not, the overall bike doesn’t stand out. The header coming from the front looks cheap AF. On the bright side it will be easy to change😊. I’m looking forward to see what the next generation 1200 looks like.

      You make a great point about the 890... same weight and more power. I have to take my hat off to the KTM folk for that amazing bike. I wouldnt call Bologna lazy but they definitely chose the frame for their biggest weight loss. Speaking of loss...im at a loss as to what Ducati will do for a large Monster at this point. Its either 1200/60 DVT or V4 platform in my tiny little brain. Maybe they have a new motor in the works! Anyways, great point on the 890 with trellis!!! MS

    • @MadaraUchiha-fg6pz
      @MadaraUchiha-fg6pz 3 года назад +1

      I’m thinking they might give the new 1200/s the V4 with around 170-180hp. Don’t think the want to extract that much power out of a 2 cylinder. It will vibrate you fillings out😂.

    Monster losing the trellis frame really was a bummer it was it’s signature the rear composite subframe was okay but now it just looks a generic Japanese naked bike I get why the v4 or panigale series had to drop the trellis due to chasing number but I feel that naked bike classes like this peak performance is probably less important then the uniqueness of the experience.

    Finally someone understands! The monster was never a trellis frame bike, it was a bits bike with parts from the sports bikes (frame), parts from the road bikes (motor) and striped down. The gen 4 monster is more of a true monster than the Gen 2 and 3 imo.
    It's the headlight that turns me off, and onto the sfv2.

    The new Monster is obviously better in terms of performance, as the outgoing model. But, it looks like a pile of plastic in person.

    • @sarahdell4042
      @sarahdell4042 3 года назад +2

      @Ben Daulton It’s not tall at all, but looks super cheap in person. Again, far too much plastic everywhere. Performance is impressive, but design wise. Ducati are starting to really become bland.
