Please react to:
Mos Def -Auditorium(feat. Slick Rick)
Busta was in Leaders of The New School. The NY guys hopped on records the way comics jump on each others podcasts. You should do Kill Tony reactions. A comedy show. Some dude put the highlights together of recent shows. That’s the move as well. I love how your dad felt the WU on Busta. Makes sense. He could produce.
Be sure to remember you are Mos Def. No matter who you are. We are hip hop.
They finally got around to mos def😭🙏
💯
😂😂😂
Mos Def one of the best to ever pick up a mic! Also fun fact! Uncredited but Will.i.am played keyboards on UMI Says!
whoah that is crazy, had no idea about Will.i.am on that
I Didn't know that.. But it makes sense because the instruments are so awesome on that track.
@@frontroom yupyup! There might be a video out there of Mos mentioning it but I've been working for Will the past 10 years he always be sharing these easter eggs with me! Keep up the awesome videos btw!!! ♥
Yes sir! A classic! Check out “Mos Def & Talib Kwali are Black Star” another classic. These albums are my teen years. De La Soul’s “Stakes is High” & “Grind Date” are two more albums you’d probably enjoy if you like this and anything A Tribe Called Quest. Thanks again for another great review! Love these. Wishing you both the best.
Edit: I’m not requesting you review these on your channel. Just listen to them. I’m sure you’ll love them like I do.
Yep Black Star and Talib Kweli Reflection Eternal
Buhoone Mindstate please. Did you do Check Your Head or Ill Communication?
Thanks for the recommendations!
Black Star and Stakes is High are great albums man. So good.
@@joedivision7148 absolutely, I just want him to hear them. I know he gets bomb barded with requests. He just needs to hear those albums. Stakes is High literally changed how I viewed rap and such an impact on my life.
One of the greatest albums ever recorded, simply
Busta Rhymes was part of Leaders of the New School. He did blow up off a feature verse on ATCQ though
Scenario!
1999 Album of the Year... voted on by ME. The intelligent MC's favorite MC. 25 years later, not much has changed.
Without a doubt 💯 This album gets better with time. It just reached its 25th anniversary a few months ago.
For me the top 3 of 1999 are this album, Things Fall Apart by The Roots and Internal Affairs by Pharoahe Monch. All 3 are incredible.
@@MrDecayzzz That’s a list that I can stand by. Internal Affairs is definitely under appreciated.
Mos! He came to my college and did a talk on contemporary writing in 2003. He signed my freshman English book! #HowardUniversity 🙌🏾
sick! I went to 2 of his shows this year and got my cd signed
One of the most Underrated albums of all time. Most people wouldnt have known who Mos Def was without Ms. Fat Booty
lol........
By reacting to the mighty Mos Def, you won't get a whole lotta clicks and likes but the clicks and likes you'll get will be full of love and pleasure! Thank you, guys! Keep up the great work!
One of the top 10 hip hop albums of all time, maybe even top 5.
Mos Def was in his bag with this one. I almost forgot how much of a classic Black On Both Sides was. I can almost appreciate it more now in terms of how times have changed and in some ways (geopolitically) not changed.
Busta Rhymes wasn't part of A Tribe Called Quest, he was a part of The Leaders of the New School. Leaders were EXTENDED members of the Native Tongue Clique, which Black Star were also extended members as well.
-Busta has Jamaican parents
In the 1st song the Sax your Dad mentioned is Fela Kuti. I think you should listen to him you can start with Water No Get Enemy I think you will both enjoy it. The genre of the music he created is called Afrobeat.
Fela Kuti is a multi instrumentalist and he studied music in London
I saw the Broadway play about his life.
Holy lord, that's crazy. My dudes, I just discovered the channel and have been diving in. Love it. Love it all. I love Pops open mind, Kai (hope I'm spelling right) I love your musical mind man, we could chop it up over music for hours. Just a great time watching you guys connect over music. Mostly with Hip Hop and watching Pops really gain an appreciation for the craft. Now the crazy part is I was just driving home from work playing a massive old playlist on rotation and Mathematics popped on. At the same time as I'm being blown away by the lyrics for the 9999th time, I thought damn, Kai needs to show this to his Pops, I would love to see his reaction with these genius level lyrics. I get home, take my first toke and bring up youtube....come on. Thanks guys, thanks for reading my mind. Also, sorry if you read anything else while you were in my mind, it's a mess up there. Peace guys.
Genius changed the album credits to Yasiin Bey because he doesn’t go by Mos Def anymore, he abandoned that moniker because he felt like he was being commercialized, like he wasn’t human.
Just to add some context from my perspective in the mathematics line "You want to learn how to rhyme you better learn how to add" .. I think also reflects on the creation of bars. Eminem had a very interesting interview where he talks about the counts in a bar and putting bars together by breaking down syllables in words. Not to overshadow the nessage you delivered but I think there is a bit of tribal knowledge that goes into creating good rap songs that he is also speaking about here...great review once again!!
Agreed…
"Climb" will always be one of my favorite songs
Thanks for briging light to old classics. Young folks need to learn true hip hop.
sorry about the typo on Fear Of Not Man
Dad's "Dirty Old Bastard" had me floored 😂😂😂😂❤
I love how much musical knowledge you both have, you mention one sample and your dad knows right away, wow. I'm only 11mins in, this is cool
Instant like with it being the Mighty Mos Def! He is due his flowers as a great
This is my favorite Hip Hop album of all time
My favourite Hip Hop and any genre album of all time! 25 years later and still sounds fresh... Most musically balannced album of any genre
FYI Busta Rhymes was NOT part of Tribe Called Quest...it was Leaders of the New School!😅
This is my favorite hip hop album of all time. Glad you were able to take a listen. It's so deep and reflective of the Black experience in North America 🖤🤎🖤
Random facts:
They (Black Star) actually had a bookstore around that time for a while. Talib later brought it back but I believe as an online store only, but I could be wrong
Also Yasiin Bey had formed a band that he did live performances as Black Jack Johnson.
Remember getting this CD on the way to class in college, listening on my discman while walking around campus, and immediately wanting to tell my friends how good it is. Can't believe that was 25 years ago!
Yasiin is a lock for top 10! I'm so glad y'all are finally getting back to quality lyricists! ✌️
An underrated movie y'all should check out is 16 Blocks w Bruce Willis. Yassin's acting is REALLY GOOD!
He's great in Bamboozled and Something the Lord Made, as well.
He’s also fantastic in Be Kind Rewind
one of my favorites!!! when I became a grandmother I knew I wanted to be called Umi and its because of this album. my grandbaby sings the song Umi says all the time
This is great, man, your taste is impeccable. A lot of channels kind of gloss over this era / scene, but you’re smashing it. I don’t even want to recommend anything because I trust you lol
Hell yeah, I clicked on this so fast when I seen the thumbnail. You gotta do A Tribe Called Quest's catalog for your dad!!!!
Black, it can’t save you!!!!! - incredible and beautiful and sublime
Busta was part of Leaders of the New School. That's crazy that you related him to Missy, they were similar in their colorful rap style and avant-garde music videos. Definitely check out some music videos of his if you haven't already.
My mom got me this album, one of my faves of all time, she knew I loved Mos Def's music, I played this shit everyday for a while!
One of my favorite albums of all time and one of the rappers in my personal top 5. Glad you’re doing a review
Yes. Absolutely no skips.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Love that you introduced your dad to this!!
criminal how you didnt let fear not of man play into hip hop 🥲 the transition is so good
Hip Hop is one of my most played tracks in my car. Every time I hear it, I'm blown away! What a powerhouse of a track that is!
Oooooh snap! Dad is in for a treat! 🔥
FAAAAAVORITE album. New World Water!
...Psycho Les is from The Beatnuts, crate diggin legends. They briefly mentored No I.D., who mentored Kanye
This album is in my top 5. I got this when i was a freshman in high school. Changed my life man, for the better. The topics he speaks on are even more prevalent today
My most heavily played album!!! Insanely good!
Mos Def, finally!
I guess this is the only album I never ever skipped a song. I totally understand your dad loves this album and it was worth it to stand by how your dad told me in a comment. ;-)
I've heard a few songs of this album but first time hearing that Busta song. Really epic, Busta is always a joy to listen to.
One more fun fact. You can find a young actor by the name Dante in some of his earlier tv acting roles on RUclips
Do J dilla. Your pops will love it.
Umi says is the best song to pop in some headphones n walk to, for me.
Probably already been said, but you gotta introduce him to Blackstar now
This album got me thru High School
u guys have to listen into Black Star. That LP was the bomb back in the days
love that some people still remember the golden days of hip hop
One love
This is unexpected and dope! I wish you guys would go Live every now and then just to talk about music in general as well as the journey yall been on etc
Thanks for watching. We did a live stream earlier this year on our Patreon. (Kai’s dad)
I pray yall listen to D'Angelo Voodoo😭🤞🏾
I've not listened to this gem in ages. Great to see your reaction to it!
I remember the Mos Def n Busta joint on the And1 Mixtapes
Gill Scott heron was in the last poets and 360 means 360 degrees
Mathematics song dj premiere has his own RUclips channel & program where he breaks down is iconic songs & he does this 1. It's a great learn. Mos def is crazy for that track. Look it up
I Love Yall Fam! Kai,, you hip-hop!! One of the best Albums Ever. Now yall need The Blakk Star Movement in your life!
Yasiin Bey can sing, rap, and act. Very talented
I have always been fascinated by Kai's sensitivity and curiosity in culture. He always goes much deeper than just touching the surface. But what always touches me is the beautiful bond between father and son.❤
AYE YOO THIS IS FIRE REACTIONS. Bruh Idk my dad but this is wholesome and is definitely something I’ll do with my kids. Sharing music is like sharing blessings with friends and family. Also just heard this track a few days ago and all I can say is Mos Def is tooooo wild. 🔥
Please do Madlib & Freddie Gibbs next! Maybe their Tiny Desk would be a good intro 👌
Just a slight correction. Busta was part of a group that was called "Leaders of the New School" which was connected to a larger group called "Native Tongue" clique along w/ "A Tribe Called Quest" that compromised of several hip-hop groups of the early 90's who wanted to produce a more positive message in hip-hop using Jazz and Blues samples to frame their often meta verses and lyrics about black life.
Umi Says perfectly encapsulates the range of human emotions. I’ve laughed, contemplated, smiled, cried, danced, wept, rejoiced and rejuvenated to this track…all in one listen. If art can aspire to be transcendental, this is its purest resonance. This track has been my musical emotional paradise for 25 years
This is the one I've been waiting for!
From a Canadian perspective you could add K-Os' Joyful Rebellion and the Atlantic Hymns for Disco albums
Or Buck 65!
Lovely. You guys should definitely check out Reflection Enternal's Train of Thought if you love this album. It's an experience.
Amazing album! One of my favs of the 90s too. So unique and distinctly Mos Def! And yes, PLEASE DO A TRIBE CALLED QUEST - MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS NEXT ❤❤
Also, Mr N*gga samples an earlier song of Q-Tip's from Midnight Marauders, hence the feature Mos Def gave him here :)
Masta Ace - Disposable Arts.
This was a life changing album for many of us. The music made cool,, knowledge and reading, trying to eat healthier, be more spiritual. It was a whole lifestyle / sub genre at the time. Glad you shared it with your pops. Bless
Hoping one day you’ll do Capital Punishment by Big Pun
UMI SAYS is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time. From 99 when it played in an NBA Sprite commercial, to last year when Joeey BadASS covered it on youtube (PLEASE WATCH!!)
One of the best albums of all time.
My dad and I bumped this all year when it came out. Top 5 hip hop album of all time in my opinion. Great to see someone hearing it for the first time.
I listen to this album all of the time, even today. :)
Please try Common " I used to love her " or the album entitled " Resurrection "
PLEASE DO GANGSTARR
Yooo this is unexpected but so exciting
Yooo! It's about time! This is Hip Hop at its finest!
YESSSS!!!! So happy you're reviewing this! This is in my top 3 hip hop albums of all time.
Busta Rhymes was part of Leaders of the New School not A Tribe Called Quest but both great groups!,!😊
My favorite hip hop album of all time. Classic!!!
Hearing Hip Hop (the song) for the first time was majestic!
THANK YOU!!!!! Yasin bey (mos def) deserves more credit for everything he stands for & his music is phenomenal
YOU SO REAL FOR THIS ONE
Ayyyy been waiting on this
Keep going! Mos defs next album is really dives into the sounds
One of the most solid , complete and brilliant bodies of work ever.. especially for a first album. It’s mind boggling how good this album is.
Great reaction guys. I was 17 when this came out, it definitely influenced me more than anything I'd heard to that point. Still my all time favorite hip-hop album. Yasiin is the 🐐
Oh I'm all here for this
OH NO! Is the moss def masterpiece
This is my favorite Album
Immortal Technique "The Cause of Death"
Or any Immortal would be nice
Just picked it up on vinyl !!
BABY…someone else will say it, or has said it but I must - Busta was a part of Leaders of the New School. He was never a ATCQ member. ATCQ had four members. I have been waiting for you to cover them. 😊
Very very cool interplay between you two!
Love this!
One of the best Hip Hop albums, period.
