Thanks for this overview. I've had the Inverness green SG Classic for nearly a year - have 28 guitars - many high end including a vintage Les Paul Special w/P90s. That said - this guitar, as you said, is astonishing in how well it's made, how well it plays, while possessing abundant overall coolness. I have to say it's right up there sonically with the vintage LP Special. The middle position, with both pickups on is purely sweet and pleasing. I love this guitar. Since its purchase I've obtained other Epiphone instruments that are also spectacular. It's very hard to figure how they're so good at the price points set for them. Most recent Epiphone is a Tiger Blue SG Prophecy w/ Fishman Fluence pickups. Excellence!! Waited 11 months to get it but well worth the wait . SG Classic $420 -
SG Prophecy $900. Great playing in your video!

I've owned this guitar (in red) for 4 months now and I love it. Paired with either my Vox AC15 Vintage Black or my Boss Katana 50 MK2, both sound good. I run 8.5 through 40 gauge strings. Really stands up with my early run Squier Classic Vibe 50's stratocaster.

I think that was a very concise and honest review of that guitar. I have not yet owned that guitar, but I am in the market I was looking at that Epiphone versus the Gibson model. There is about $1000 difference, and I feel for that kind of disparity, truly the Epiphones wins.

I’m 100% with you. I purchased the red version of this and had the exact same reaction and said to myself exactly what you are saying. I owned a low end Epiphone SG 10 years ago that was really cheap. I don’t even think it was real wood. This guitar?! It’s amazing for the price. The wood feels right. The pickups are great and don’t need to be swapped. Same reaction as you on this. I guess they figured out a way to make a better quality guitar for that price point.

Hello, fellow certified guitar nerd here 😁 I have the vintage cherry version of the same guitar (which I bought because I wanted to have a guitar with p90s and always liked Tony Iommi) and I pretty much agree totally with your review. Amazing value and a perfectly giggable guitar. Mine had a very slight groove just above fret 12, so a slight QC niggle, but it would probably polish out fairly easily and everything else is very impressive for the price.

Great playing by the way. I’ve not long bought one of these for the same reason you bought it. A p90 loaded guitar and one that doesn’t break the bank. I have more expensive guitars but I have to admit this is great for just picking up and having a play. I don’t worry if it gets dinged but it plays great. This is the second one I’ve had as the first had to go,back as the frets were terrible but the new one is great. I have changed the bridge and tail piece to Fabre models and for me it has given it a bit more clarity but other than that, for,the money a great little guitar that I will take with me when travelling. Great review by the way

For the price, just another epiphone from 2020 can beat this. Maybe the problem with the intonation when hard-picking is because the type of the bridge. The other types of the 2020 line of Epiphone, are all awesome and really cheap (not in my country unfortunately). If you liked this guitar, go for the customs and specials (not the super cheap ones, that is garbage) I mean the 2020 models.

it's a weird story but, i need an inexpensive guitar, that is giggable, that has p90s and isn't a LP or Gretsch Jet. *and it has to be green*
my thoughts were, i will probably have to paint and finish a crappy guitar and hope for the best, the only things in my life i have painted is a couple of walls. so if i can't find a keeper right away, i'll have to screw around to get something that will do for now.
i know, of course, that the SG is, in many opinions, THE p90 guitar (the pick-ups really like solid mahogany, apparently). so a green Epi SG would be perfect. what are the odds that Epi have a green SG with p90s? green, maaaaaybe. p90s, bound to be. but green AND p90s AND be usable but "cheap"? you can get usable and cheap these days, sure, but there's no way the SPECIFIC guitar i need, the ideal for the situation exists and is readily available.
but it can't hurt to type "sg" "p90s" "green" and "epiphone" into google and see what comes up.
hey, how are ya? i'll be needing one of those, luckily there seems to be a few floating around still. 🤞

    • @ullerman002

      @@ullerman002 i don't have it yet.
my late mother used to say, "there be many a slip betwixt cup and lip". basically, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.
a collectors run on it would screw me up, and those cheap, odd guitars get run on these days. since covid, guitar trading has become *huge* so there are runs on *anything* now. and that SG stands out. if it's a good beginner/intermediate instrument and it stands out, the speculating starts. unfortunately i still have 500 to pay off a Gretsch so i can't get onto the SG *right away* but soon.
curious about the tuning issues, a hard *right* hand does it you say? and it's more intonation than tuning i suspect? hmm. gotta be bridge or saddles then. todays *entry level* guitars are so well built (the guitar itself with no hardware) not counting pups, there is usually only one or two appointments that need replacing for a reliable road dog. cause that was the problem in the old days, reliability. you had to fork out a lot of money for an instrument that could be *relied* upon. entry and most mid level guitars weren't *built* well enough to even get correct intonation, no matter what you did.
back then (90s), there was a GOOD reason you didn't play Squiers. not now. now i can't find a Player series Fender better than even the cheapest Squiers, when it comes to the quality of the *guitar* part. just the pups and the "finishing" of the instrument are better on Players and not by much. BIG difference between Fender Player series and Pro series tho. Squier don't stand up to the Pro. but the Player is basically a Squier with Fender written on the headstock, quality-wise.
as for Epiphone. a *decent* Epi was always an acceptable replacement for a Gibson, not for tone of course, for *reliability*
by the 90s Gibson was already being regarded as the "dentists" guitar. the average guitarist "in the trenches" used Epiphone
