These Iconic structures have been a part of life throughout my childhood. I think it is criminal to destroy them. Why not paint and keep them as historic icons.
Being local, Dumbarton, can relate to most of your videos. It is an end to an era, big ships on the Clyde. Good to see the Arrol, Sir William, on the crane. That really takes me back.
End of an era, dead long ago,but somehow still part of it all, how long now until the Wendy houses arrive.Great wee film, so very poignant. Thanks for sharing.
Look how close those houses are to the dry dock . Is this the reason the dry dock will never be used again . Scotland needs big industries not housing estates and no good big industry jobs, anymore. Think I know what I would prefer , ship repair work or better still ship building in the dry dock . The modern method of ship building is having vessels built in dry docks . Peel ports wants to close the historic commercial docks at Chatham in Kent to turn into a housing estate , a waste of a asset.
The World today . Your can destroy a Farm Forrest Swamp or anything. Just as long as you name something after it or put up a memorial . Just remember those who went before us and made our existence possible.
Can understand the sentimentality of most of the comments here but if we went back to when they were built there was probably a lot of folk who thought they were ugly and ruined the landscape

A new digital shipyard at Inchgreen will have no use for cranes like these. A lack of vision and Inchgreen not used as a basis for a new modern shipyard will be tragic.
hello i'm with storyful news. could we get permission to use your video, with credit to you, per storyful.com/clearance? email at editor at storyful dot com
hi I'm Liam I have not commented in a while but my dad is thinking about moving back to Rothesay but if he dose I will still watch you videos btw great vid
Terrible end of them . The world was saved by such ship building machines in War time. Progress is like Common sense becoming more of a Oxy Moron every day. Good Engineering is a form of Art . To Blue caller people as we are so called today Esential/ often taken for granted. It's like watching a Picasso being set alight. It doesn't matter what part of the planet you live in remember those people that sacrifice to make your lifestyle possible. If you have a roof over your head food on the table those who made it possible often did not.

should have won an oscar for that ,amazing jim
This is so sad . . . they looked as if they are a living creature, with a life, and character . . . this is such a sad scene.
So sad, like giant dinosaurs dying. X

Very sad another bit of the ship building legacy gone
So much history, such a shame.
So sad seeing so much of the shipping history being demolished i remember the Goliath crane when was growing up.
RIP Cranes idk-2017😔😞😭
I think they were made in 1941
Great video, thanks. They were part of my skyline growing up.
Labour tactics and practices of the 1960s to 1980s killed it.
Taiwan, South Korean and now Chinese shipyards started building ships for about half the price back in the early 80s
These were renovated by UIE 1997 -1999 at a great expense
The explosions at 1.45 sound like shots from poachers felling two giant animals at a watering hole.
Served my time as a plater building cranes at Butters cranes of ibrox.
So your the one that put Scott in Lithgow. Lol. Xx

Good video, but - what was that 'music'? Misery music.
So where do the people work now?
