Seth loving his Rhinos and saying "Where's our Panharmonicon?" makes me think we should get a Rhino Roaming Throne brew at some point with some ridiculous jank like Stonehorn Dignitary.
Between SNC having a few and OTJ adding Railway Brawler, there might be enough to make something work? It'd be pretty slow or you'd have to break theme to have some kind of early creatures. Does Stonehorn Diplomat work with Roaming Throne? Doesn't it just skip the same combat phase twice? Or does it delete that phase in their next turn, trigger again and hit the one after that?
I think the One Ring should be a pre restricted card. Like from the release it should have been only, well, one ring allowed. Hits flavor and balances it since you can't play a second one to deny the damage.

@draconocor1309 I kind of wish they would lean into the semi-rotating idea. If a card was standard legal, it's always Modern legal unless banned. A new MH set will come out every few years pushing out the old set. That way new MH sets don't have to be quite so juiced to make an impact, and old standard cards don't need to compete with quite so many cards. This deck is so fun t0 watch! This reminds of the famous 2015 protour filled with abzan where every match was interesting and intricate. So different than the games of modern where both players reveal their hands on the first two turns and we see who wins lol. The fact that the opponent just wanted you to play faster in the faeries game instead of enjoying the crazy close match says it all lol!
Yeah the Crime//Punishments should be in the board. I would replace those with 1 more Prismatic Ending, and 1 Grist as it works well with Mosswood Dreadknight. Maybe even go up to 2 of those by cutting the Vindicates replacing 1 with the 2nd Grist, and the other 2 with Anguished Unmaking to deal with that damn ring. Hallowed Moonlight in the board would also be good vs Yawgmoth, Rhinos, Living End, and (a deck making a comeback) Creativity.

This deck seems like it would be significantly better positioned in pioneer. (Yes, I know that there would have to be some changes but Mosswood Dreadknight, Siege Rhino, Liliana, and more are all pioneer legal)
Seeing this deck in action makes me wish there was an old school modern format, something that allows only cards from before some set (I'd pick modern horizons one, personally). I miss that era of modern so much...
Culling Ritual or Gaze of Granite > Punishment. Gaze is programmable to avoid hitting your 2-mana Goyf or Ooze. Or wipe everything, including your own creatures as well as Grist. That is certainly an option. Though I admire the 3 maindeck Vindicate, the absence of Maelstrom Pulse is an indefensible omission. A single copy at minimum is plenty sensible. It can act as a pseudo-sweep against like permanents, like multiple constructs or amulets, 2- or 3-for-one's.
Honestly I’m still playing that budget Abzan Reanimator deck you had posted up a couple of years ago with Siege Rhinos. It’s budget so I’m not trying to run it into top tier decks but it’s still fun.
@@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandleso if I've got a Sheoldred on turn four, then yeah, I'm casting the Sheoldred lol. A player misusing the card doesn't make the card bad. Dreadknight should be dropped on two without question in a deck like this one. Apply pressure and force the opponent to respond or slowly chip away at them. If they do respond, and don't have exile effects, then one has the OPTION to draw a card the following turn for 1B. IF that is the best course of action, then obviously it should be done. If that is NOT the best move based on the opponent, their deck, and the gamestate at that exact moment, then it should not be done, again, obviously. But this is an entirely different discussion because that comes down to player skill. It's no different than knowing when you have to kill a creature versus just ignoring it, or taking damage. It's just game and meta experience.
Crime and Punishment is also a smashing against Hammer Time. Takes out: Hammers, Sentinels, Gingerbrute, Giver, Sigarda's Aid, Drum, Shadowspear. Or takes out all the Karn-structs and Sagas, if needed.
I feel like this deck should have maelstrom pulses. Maybe cut one crime/punishment and two vindicates for pulses, and you have 3 pulses that would have helped in couple of losses there. For example it would have been able to deal with Grist, and those 3 amulets in the last game would all been dealt with one card. It would also be good against rhino tokens, and karnstructs made by urza's saga. Against several ward creatures like those faeries you only need to pay for one ward since the copies don't target. And you just randomly get those 2 for 1 values when they happen to play second copy of a threat. I wonder why nobody play pulses. I play 4 copies in my abzan, and they are great. I am pretty much always happy to draw them, since pulse is such an universal card that it always seem to have something good to target.

I love Vindicate, but it's better in a more control oriented deck that doesn't mind tapping out and not playing threats. It also hurts being sorcery speed. I actually run a playset in an Esper control deck that I have and they are great. But all that deck does is react to my opponent, remove all threats, and then win once I've taken control of the board. It's meant to win late. A deck like the one that Seth played needs to be consistently getting out the Rhino by turn 4, and pressuring the opponent. Part of that is removal, but it needs to be far cheaper that 3 mana.
Are all the boomer cards really the best options for those slots or are they just there for nostalgia? Liliana the last hope seemed bad to me idk, why not just run Grist? Also, maybe actual Jund would be better with how much busted stuff red has. Is it not still jund if you run 4 copies of Fable?
They had to have been for nostalgia. I don't think that Liliana of the Veil is worth playing anymore either. Truthfully, I've been less than impressed with it for years now. It's certainly probably Pioneer playable, but for my mono-Black Pioneer deck, I run Dark Realms. As for Grist, Seth even said that the deck should probably be running it. Maybe we can see the future evolution of this deck in another video down the road.
Heres the thing, on older formats you eventually see true control get edged out in just about all of them at some point because, as Crim would say, everything is an Avengers level threat. In a certain way the same thing happens with midrange decks, because similar to a control deck they want to stay interacting and having awnsers for thw opponent. The difference is the control decks with by always staying ahead of the opponent untill they get thier engine online and kill you, midrange is banking that they are better from behind than the opponent. All of this to say i think the deck needs tutors and to have a toolbox package. Playing three colors, playing Tarmogoyf, but NOT running Engineered Explosives? Mistake #1.
Crime and Punishment is a really good card, but a situational one. For x = 0 it not only cleans rhinos, but also snipes karnstrucs AND the urza saga itself, as its an enchanment with mana value 0. But yeah it feels more like a sideboard card. Maby a couple of Grist in the main instead? Or maybe the ring lol, jsut get a bunch of advantage and rhino them out.
i havent watched the video but if seth doenst go 5-0 we need richard at least in a call talking seth through the jund/abzan lines 🤔
Siege Rhino in 2024. Love it!!!
Damn, Crime // Punishment is awful. Not certain it's even better than EE since that at least gives an artifact for goyf.
