    16:48 - RNG in mario games are usually based on player's inputs, so it is controlled because you are making the same inputs every time (>+Y)

      IIRC in MM2 it's (also?) based on time related to when you start the level so it's probably consistent because you basically have to run at that speed as well.

    16:48 "Random" numbers generated by a computer aren't actually random: they take some input variable and run it through an algorithm that produces a pseudo-random output, but will always produce the same output if you give it the same input. In Mario Maker's case, it appears they use some component of the in-game state that can be reliably replicated whenever you restart the level.

      What's more, while in SMM1, the "seed" used would vary between each playthrough of a level, it's always the same in SMM2. In other words, as long as Mario's inputs are the same, you'll get the same result.

      I know the answer. The RNG seed is usually random but it is manipulated by control inputs from the player so on short levels like that the RNG isn’t very random as there are few button inputs. If he jumped at any point it would be something other than a mushroom

      I don’t know exactly why Nintendo opted for this in Mario Maker 2 but it had something to do with keeping the RNG consistent in multiplayer

    23:20 This simply abuses the fact that moving objects like buzzy beetle shells despawn further offscreen than bullet bill launchers. So the launcher despawns but the shell doesn't, allowing the shell to keep going.

    16:50 The rng seed is based on Mario's movement, so if mario moves the same way, it will always turn into a mush

    There is no true RNG, everything is deterministic in the game. That's how the magikoopa do their thing to always give a mushroom. Try jumping a couple times first.

      Most new games use RNG based on the current time. But Mario maker decided to make the RNG based on user input.

      @Lee Anderson I think the main reason is multiplayer. PRNG based totally on player input makes it easier to keep things in sync.

    8:57 this works because of the different activations of POWs in SMM2. If a POW is activated by a shell or other thrown object, it removes everything on the current screen. If it is activated by Mario however, it removes everything in a 1-screen radius from the POW. Wearing the helmet and booping the bomb is enough to change it from being activated by a shell to being activated by Mario, which means the munchers don’t die 🙂

    On "One-way Clip", I think because Mario stands up to do the peace sign, he doesn't get effected by the one-way anymore. It also works like that usually. As long as you don't manually crouch as big Mario on a downwards facing 1-block high one-way, you can still jump, etc.

    9:10 what is happening is pow block I tanglement which is where if the player interacts with a pow block it destroys everything on screen but if it is trigger by a shell or just not the player it destroys everything in the radius of one screen with the pow block in the center. Also a other channel goes way more into this in the video “what is the highest score in super Mario maker 2” on a channel called ceave gaming

    23:16 how it works:
    everything on the screen is loaded. so is everything four tiles away from the screen. beyond that, only items, enemies and solid tiles (hard block, groud, etc) are loaded. bill blasters are not on that list so it unloads, letting the shell through. the question block is in that four block area, so it's loaded. when mario moves back to the left, the bullet blaster reloads, either destroying the shell or trapping it.

      Cieve gaming has a video I think. Also it’s not just magikoopas although they are the best way to observe it. The RNG is manipulated by button inputs and the RNG determines what a block will get turned into when hit with magikoopa magic. It’s not a direct link and the RNG manipulates other things too, though probably not as easy to observe

    Allow me to explain the "suddenly bomb" and the "suddenly mush" level, at 15:17 and 16:21.
    part 1: the RNG
    The RNG in mario maker 2 works differently than mario maker 1, as it is based on player input instead of actually being a "Random Number Generator"
    because you press the same two buttons the whole time, nothing changes.
    and apparently the creator made sure this is also true for holding B.
    part 2: how it actually works:
    The kamek transforms the flag into a mushroom / bob-omb, which is why you go past the flag in the first level without holding B. While holding B the bomb causes you to go upward, since holding Jump while stomping an enemy will make you go higher.
    Hopefully i explained your confusion about that level!

    The last one happens because basically anything that isn't the ground gets unloaded after some blocks off screen, but the unloading point for launchers is after two blocks off screen while the unloading point for shells is after four blocks, so if you walk a bit away and then come back, the shell can go into it's new "open space", and then you can come back and reload the launcher. Shells aren't solid objects, so the launcher doesn't check to see if it's blocking it's spawn area (if something that the launcher has physics with (can stand on, hit it's head on, etc.) was in the way, it wouldn't appear) and spawns, making it so that the shell appears in the launcher. Objects always get reloaded at where they were placed, plus some conditions based on the object and how it acts with the level and player.
    To sumarize, unloading happens when an object gets too far off screen, and loading happens when an object gets close enough to the screen. The points an object loads and unloads depends on what it is and how it acts. This can cause objects to get stuck inside each other, like shown in the level.

    2:23 my guess with my understanding of physics is that the seasaw is just so slightly tilted that you cant notice it but is enough so that when you release some pull on the seasaw it pushes the muncher enough to crush the bo-bomb's (i forgot how to spell their name) hitbox which causes them to explode and activate the switch

    23:05 when you offscreen the launcher, it gets unloaded but the shell stays loaded, and since the launcher isn't blocking it the shell can hit the block on the right of it, spawning the lava bubbles

    2:34 Explanation: The see saw is still with a muncher on a semi solid on one side. When you destroy the 1 up or stand on the other side, the see saw moves the muncher up and it moves to the side ever so slightly, blowing up the Bob-omb.

    15:22 If you're on a computer, do each ending frame by frame at 60 frames per second. To do this, you fist pause it, then you tap the , button to go back, and the . button to go forward. You can actually see what's going on!

    I think I might know how the last level works
    The shell clips in the blaster because the blaster despawns, but the shell doesn't because it's on global ground (the spring). Since the blaster isn't loaded but the shell still is, the shell is able to move around freely and into the blaster's loading spot, causing the shell to be in the blaster while still hitting the block.
    BTW, global ground is something that stays loaded no matter how far away you go from it. I'm not entirely sure if springs are global ground, but if so, then that's how that level works. Yes, I learned this from Ceave.

    The one way clip works because Mario starts standing when doing the peace sign, and since Mario’s head is above the one way, it lets him go through. Also, for the magikoopa one, RNG in this game is based on player movement, so holding run makes it always be a mushroom

    2:35 you removed the 1-up causing the muncher to barely goes out of bounds then clip back in and when it clips slightly out of bounds it gets close enough to the bob-omb for it to explode the same thing happens on the ones you jump on you just add the weight on yourself

    I think when something weighs down the other side of the seesaw, it moves the muncher by just enough pixels that it moves into the hitbox of the bobom

    @Dgr The Reason Why Those Suddenly _____ Levels work is cause Mm2 Rng isn't Rng its based on movement, so If you did the same exact movement twice you would get the same Rng Thats why its auto, and why they're are random gaps in the ground, and conveyor belts. 15:34
