Thank you! The battery life of my goggles is pretty short and I use an external little powerbank. Since the DC input plug fails I'm going to replace it with an USB C port.
Perfect. Mine as shipped had bad batts with minimal life. I plan to add a pack at back of headstrap to help counterbalance. FWIW, I use 2.0 readers and the optional fresnel lens made these usable without glasses.
I ended up using 2 18650 batteries in parallel i scavenged from an old laptop. I just put an extension out the front and use Velcro to stick them in the back. It works really well. I think it can take up to 2s, but I've only used 1s, 3.5-4.2
One thing i learned from Eachine: NOTHING is the same on two pieces they manufacture. I have no idea how they are everywhere but can't put the same screws in the same place.. On the other hand, i've had very few eachine failures, so they at least get the big stuff right
Thanks for the video! I wonder if it make sense to remove the battery to make it less front heavy. Has anyone weigh the standard battery? Will the goggles work without battery with provided power from charging plug? Or it is better to create a connector for the battery plug and use external LiPo?
i ended up extending the wires out just like you said and put velcro on the back of the headstrap and i put the battery there. That way, i just just swap out some 18650s i have wired for JST connectors whenever i need. i hate being tied to just one battery that i have to wait on for charging.
Look about 1 inch into the goggles on the top half of the shell. you should see 2 U shaped bits of plastic sticking out. Those accept the little arm nubs of the lens. just push them in straight and they will pop into place, then be able to swivel up/out of the way and down. i love how it changed my view
I "overturned" my omni antenna, so that the connection in the goggles broke (that copper (colored) thing). Then I tried to fix it by soldering it back together but it still doesn't work... Do you know a way to fix this?
so 90% of antenna problems like that are fixable if you can somehow gte the metal sheeting around the antenna and solder it to the ground part of the connector, then have the center part soldered the correct area. It's kinda difficult but it works most of the time. I'd have to see teh exact problem to know for sure. come over to discord and see if we can help discord.gg/cZAVyTW there is gernally someone in "General" text when you chime in. it's easier that way since you can share pics, etc.
Did you ever end up running the battery mod for this? Wondering if any caps or filters would be needed to run a 2s pack on it. I just bought these and the battery isn't bad but because it's in the front of the goggles, if I fly when it's super cold the battery suffers quite a bit. I'd love to be able to run it off a 2s that's sitting nice and warm in my pocket haha plus if the battery is in your pocket you could essentially conformal the components while you have it apart and have a damn near rainproof set.
I did a battery mod and it claims 2s is ok... But i just use 1s. I actually just put a jst connector and use 18650 cells and get a good bit of flight time now. I'm pretty sure you can do 2s, but not sure enough to recommend.
@@Sully365 thanks for the reply! I was lookin into 2s because I have 2 4000mah Batts laying around for my sons rock crawler/basher I was gonna use but may just play it safe and buy some 1s. Not a fan of the deans plug on these anyways.
@@GorefiendGaming if you wanted, you could easily fit a stepdown regulator on a new wire between your dean's plug and whatever plug you use. just set it to 4 volts output and off you go. Total cost would be less than 4 bucks
Hi Chris, have you managed to workout the actual resolution of the lcd. Some have said it does not look like the 900*600 as advertised. Great review by the way...
I can't honestly tell. You can tell it's sharper than the ev800d and jjpro/kylin and most of the 5" screens, but i have no real way of measuring. The video is sharper than the eachine pro dvr that records at higher resolution but is just upsized
@@Tish0eX I am surprising impressed. Thought going from a full 16:9 box to a smaller 4:3 would be difficult. The quality of the screen is so much better than my old eachine VR009. Very comfortable with glasses fitting perfectly. If I had to suggest some changes would the ability to add an external battery, a AUX output and maybe some foam around the nose. The nose gap leaks light a bit. For the price I'm really happy.
I just tried to do add an external battery mod on my ev800DM and I don't have any goggles it set on fire I did everything right I think it was the battery I used time to save up for sum fat sharks

If i were to do it today, i'd use one of the USB C ports like you're talking about. I love those things
Thank you so much!!! You helped me disassemble the ev800dm!
Glad it worked, i'm really happy with the external connector i put on it. Goodluck

2:12 my goggles did not come with this shroud, they did however have five of tose srews installed, not just four.

Have you you tried hooking the DMs up to a SIM/ I can't get it to work. Thanks, Mike
Hello, can you use the ev800dm directly with 2s or 3s and remove the original battery ?
Yes, it looks like it will accept 1s and 2s, i would not try 3s
@@Sully365 Okay, it's too dangerous for me. I don't want to ruin the glasses. Bought myself 1s 5000mah lipos.

Sma.
Hey Chris, Can you do a breakdown and review/mod suggestion for the BETAFPV VR01 or would you always recommend just grabbing these?
Let me check them out and get back to you
