I own both pianos: Roland FP-10 and Casio CDP-S100.
The sound of a (compact, stage and upright) digital piano really is a
matter of taste, and also depends on the settings of the individual
piano and used speakers and/or headphones. Yamaha is like an upright
piano, Roland is more warm and full and Casio sounds like a grand piano
with an open ceiling. Also consider the number of polyphonies (Yamaha
and Casio have 64, Roland has 96 polyphones). All models sound better
with a good headphone or profetional external speakerss than the
    built-in speakers.
With the further development of the virtual pianos up to the physically
modeled pianos, the sound engine within the compact digital pianos is
not really interesting and does not represent the first criterion for
me. You can simply connect your stage piano to a tablet or computer and
launsch a physical modeled virtual piano engine, and you get the best
sound out there, with infinite possibilities for tuning right through to
    the length of the strings.
The most important thing in a piano is the KEYBOARD. On all three
keyboards of the named models, the keyboard of Casio is by far the best
with well-scaled dynamics and pleasing surface texture (Scaled Hammer
    Action Keyboard II).
In summary, a sound engine can be substituted for a better one, but you
can not replace a bad keyboard.

When will the evolution take us to just a keyboard for action/feel?
It is one thing if there is actual synthesizing ciruitry, but if just voices, it seems the buyer gets locked into one set of voices.
Just buy the Spectrasonics Keyscape voices once and for all.
Speakers in these units seem redundant - remove the expense, complication.
Just make the vst available for DAWs.
Maybe there is a problem with copyright, unbridled copying of the voices that way, IDK.

Hi, very interesting and I'd need some more details pls. I'm technically pretty disadvantaged, so to speak... I'm debating along the Casio CDP-S350, Roland FP-30, Casio PX-360 and Casio CDP-230R. There are 2 things I'm interested in: 1) sound range - I only play classical and I'd like to have a wide range of piano, harpsichord and pipe organ sounds. Can't give a damn about anything else. 2) keyboard - the more realistic feel the better. It should be weighted and graded, naturally. Also the Roland FP has this features, the resonance of harmonically related notes, not just the sound of the key you press, not sure if it's a software or hardware thing. So, I wondered about the same thing you just said above, namely could I just buy sounds I need above the ones the piano comes with? Is this possible? How does this work pls?

I’m of the same mindset, key feel is the top priority, but then the Bluetooth on the Roland is such an attractive perk the Casio doesn’t have. Is the key feel of the Casio so much better than the Roland that it’s worth missing out on Bluetooth? I can’t imagine it being so. Roland app looks much better than Casio app as well.

As a beginner, you should definitely get an 88 key. I've had a RockJam 561 for a year now and I hate that it only has 61 keys. A lot of the stuff that I want to start playing doesn't translate well with a 61 keys machine. I'm also starting to notice it twangs, and not having a sustain pedal sucks.

I have a Yamaha Keyboard with 6.35mm headphone Jack (which I could convert to 3.5mms Jack using lead) and a tablet with 3.5mm jack, I would like to listen to keyboard tutorials from RUclips whilst also hearing the keyboard via the same headphones. I don't know what I need! Any advice appreciated. DAC, splitter, mixer????

Hi ! thank you so much for this excellent video. I'm shopping for a keyboard with weighted keys, with an action that feels as closely as possible like an acoustic piano action. I have been already advised to go to a shop and try one for myself but i am very willing to rely instead on an advice from a professional player of both digital and acoustic piano like you. Sounds quality is not that important, action quality is as I need it to practice. To conclude i would be very interested to know which one you like the best action wise. Thank you sincerely. Kind regards, gino

I was exactly in your position, but Casio makes calculators and Yamaha makes beautiful sounding keyboards. The video I would watch if I were you would be the Yamaha vs Casio s100 sound quality blind test video, it sums up how much better the Yamaha is. The rich and warm sound, compared to the much more artificial Casio. It has definitely changed my opinion.

Hi, I am wondering if anyone can compare the quality of touch between Korg B2 and Kurtzweil KA-90. I prefer the Kurtzweil for its higher overall options, but the sound of the Korg B2 amazes me. I'm interested to know if anyone has tried both. Thank you. I edit: I need it to study intermediate level classical repertoire.

    • @ayrtoninchejanampa6874
      @ayrtoninchejanampa6874 4 года назад +1

I have only tried the Kurzweil KA90 and it feels good although the keys are plastic, if you are practicing piano and from what I see you want more demand I suggest buying a more expensive model, but there are also options such as the Roland FP30, Kawai ES110, Casio PX S1000 (The Roland and Casio have synthetic ivory finish)

    • @MrMyneworld
      @MrMyneworld 4 года назад +1

@@ayrtoninchejanampa6874 Ok, thank you for your answer. My question was because I live far from the good stores and I cannot test the models that are available, I can only watch RUclips videos to get an idea of the sound. The feeling when playing is important, but I am only a modest amateur, although I want to seriously study the piano repertoire. I think the Kurzweil will be my choice for the first 88 keys, but first I have a lot to study. Regards.

I'd go the Roland for sure, but if you're gonna go Korg, get the D1, not the B1. No built in speakers (so you have to use an external amp), but the keybed is lightyears better (on the D1 than the B1). Me personally still prefer the Roland PHA4 (on the FP-10, FP-30 ...).

buy pianos under $200.00 with weighted keys or semi-weighted that have 88 keys speakers don't matter that much you can buy a good pair separately and sounds don't matter that much either if you can hook up your usb to ipad or laptop or iphone that has applications with large sound banks
