    Who are we?
    We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the World on our 36ft sailboat. 3 years ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, thinking we know what we are getting ourselves into. After those 3 years we know better, so it was time we took on a new challenge: we added a little crew member to our boat family, meet Levi!
    Our goal is to circumnavigate the world on our 36ft Beneteau as a famliy. Sailboat life is super different from land life. It is fantastic and pretty rough at times. And now with little Levi, it often is even harder and more fun.
    see the little things tries to FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING THINGS THAT ARE HARD. Join us on this journey and let's find happiness together!
    If you have any COMMENTS, suggestion, questions or feel to need to praise (or scold) us, leave a comment down below and we’d happily write you back :). Of course a THUMBS UP is ALWAYS APPRECIATED very much so and helps us a lot!

    Great guys, keep going - we know it can be hard - don’t worry about the negative comments - I’m sure they have plenty of great videos to share of their adventures ….. oh wait…. No 😉 😂. You’re out there doing it and are one of the channels that have inspired us to get out there and sail to new places - even if it’s only a weekend sail or a 2 week break. I’ve stopped watching the “big” sailing channel as I found them getting too commercial and lost their grounding, but hey that’s what they want to do. I’d much rather watch channels like yours, SV Impavidus and Adventure Now - you keep it real. Well done.

      I was thinking the same ,sailed across the Atlantic with so loose rigging he couldn't put full sails out a Dr ,i don't think so , just another accident waiting to happen

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor 2 года назад

      @@Mechone11 obviously you don’t know rigging. Our rigging is not “so loose we couldn’t put up full sail” it was loose enough to reduce stress on the rig while still being tight enough to do its job.
      We weren’t full sail because our sails were balanced. Unbalanced sails will sail you faster but generate a lot of weather helm (or sometimes lee helm). You personally overcome this by turning the rudder and fighting the helm. Imagine doing that for a month straight, 24/7… your arms would fall off.
      If you try and make your autopilot fight it for you, it will wear out and break.
      The smart thing to do is to balance the sails so that the boat sails with a straight rudder. Then the autopilot just adjusts course instead of fighting the sails. Balancing the sails is accomplished by trimming and adjusting the size of sail flown. In our case, we were going down wind. This means big headsail and small mainsail. To take the boom out of the equation and keep the Center of Effort close to the midline of the boat, we flew our trysail. Depending on the winds, we either had our staysail or our jib set. If we were on a beam reach, like when we left Bermuda, then we were full main, jib, and staysail.
      Sailing across an ocean isn’t putting up all your sails and going really fast. It’s using your gear appropriately when the situation is right to do so.
      If you use a hammer as a vise grip, you won’t get the job done because you are using the wrong tool and the wrong way.

      This was a huge learning experience for us. We were heading south along the Florida coast and were pinned between the Gulf Stream and the beach.
      We were dumb at that time and decided to sail in that narrow strip of water. Our windvane control line that pulls the boat to port fell off so we turned to starboard and the windvane couldn’t correct it. In five minutes, we thumped the sand of the beach on a dark night. That’s when I noticed the change in direction 😨
      Now that we have experience with ocean sailing and long passages (our usual hop when out in the Atlantic was minimum 1000 miles) we would never have sailed so close to shore. We always keep a minimum of 100nm from a coast to avoid repeating this same mistake. Hopefully others have learned from our mistake so that they can avoid the same distress.

That's okay because I rather see people behave authentically instead of being fake happy...plus we can then appreciate the times when you are in a happy or humorous mood. Leave the annoying happy cheeriness to us loud Americans... ugh... embarrassing! P.S. I love seeing Levi smiling but I crack up when he has the exact same scowl look as his father.
