- A DAY IN THE LIFE
Another regular day on the boat. We get up really early and finally leave Poros. We are off to Kythnos, an island in the Cyclades and continue sailing in Greece. At least that is the plan, until we are 1 hour out and suddenly our batteries start burning up and draining like crazy... Once again we head back to Poros! After some asking around and thanks to the lovely Greek people we get the problem fixed within 24 hours and the next morning we give it another shot. Travel via the wind you say? No Meltemi, no wind today .. But despite that this time we are more successful ! yasss ! Cyclades Islands here we come :)

Who are we?
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. Six months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, not really knowing what we're doing. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world via the wind, always being surrounded by the ocean. Sailboat life is super different from land life and can be pretty rough at times. see the little things is the documentary of our endeavour of simplifying life, decelerating pace, and practicing mindfulness. Follow our adventures when you are curious to see how we mess up and fix it up again! We are currently still sailing Greece, but will head over to Italy and beyond soon.

Lottalove Alex & Mandy
At Teneriffa we had a very narrow way to the box, even narrower than the boat lengths docking there. The skipper threw the anchor only in the middle of the channel. But the boxes were also that tight that all the fenders were squeezing under pressure. After all I'd try a shorter chain for those cases. If the harbour is not known for hard swell or strong winds expected.
Glad to see you drag the anchor to get it cleaned off. used to do that back in the day, how ever each anchor was 9 ton. pulled it up to make sure it wasn't fowled then lowered it to clean after asking the bridge. I've seen some channels just bring it up and secure it caked with mud.
9 ton 😂😂 that’s almost twice as heavy as our entire boat haha. Craaaazy. That must have been a really big ship!!
PS our chain is rusty enough to get the boat dirty. We don’t also need a dirty anchor to do that 😬😅
Very cool! I had to pause it at 5:39 on the cat that was playing Christmas music. That’s the same cat Blue Moon we chartered in the Grenadines a few years ago. Small world! 👍⛵️
Haha that is a small world!! We have seen them again on the Canaries this year if I’m not mistaken!
felt really concerned for you early - watching you make many mistakes that an experienced sailor could have taught you. However it has been wonderful to watch the stressed faces change as you have become more confident and learned skills and what your boat is capable of. Your resilience is inspirational and your adventurous positivity will cary you to an exciting cruising life.
Thank you, that's so nice to hear. We feel a lot better and capable now after the experiences this season. The learning has been very steep. Now we have to be careful not to get too lazy. If things go well 1000 times, a one time mistake could be one too many..
On a previous episode you compared your channel to another famous YT channel.
For me you are much better than them!
You don't sail a brand new multi-hull but you are genuine, spontaneous and sympathetic.
Please keep that beautiful smile on your faces and have Sun-downers for us every day (with sweet kisses tooooo!)
God bless and Fair Winds!
Wow those are really lovely words :) you almost make us blush ;) We took your advice and started drinking those sun-downers last night btw and might have had one too many though.. uf.
@@seethelittlethings Cheers! To your good health :)
Subbed yesterday and you two had +/- 750... 24 hours later you’ve picked up another 100 subscribers!! Great content and very refreshing to see folks who aren’t yet experts just going for it! I’m already looking for a Beneteau 393 so seeing that it’s what you two are sailing is a huge plus. I expect this channel to blow up so I’m glad to have gotten in before the crowd!!
We are very excited about it all and even more excited that others find it exciting too! Thanks for subscribing and happy to have you onboard! We also looked at the 393, it had our preference, because of the awesome (non triangular) bed in the forward cabin and a bit more space. But it was out of our budget ;) Hope you find yours soon! It's a great boat.
Alex reminds me of myself not wanting to leave the boat and being too nervous about it.
Hello Folks, you are doing great videos. Thank you fit this. One hint if you like: I saw you carrying heavy batteries and full jerry cans on your shoulders. There is a thing called „Klappsackkarre“(german). I would not miss it! it is cheap, light foldable and carries heavy load. Heave a good time! Christoph from Hafenkino.blog
Haben uns dieses Jahr beim Bauhaus eingedeckt ;)
Another great video!!! That water is so beautiful...
Oh it's so nice. Now in real life it's proper autumn/fall, feels good to look back on those days while editing the next videos.
Your 'house' is beautifull. Comment relates to previous vid but i'am binge watching ☺️ nice!
Thanks. Appreciate the binge 😇
It gets better all the time guys.
You know Alex, always wants to be better and better 😊
Keep the great videos going!
We'll do our best! Thanks
Alex... I had the same anxiety with anchoring. Mine was sleeping at night and are we moving... Not good. I bought another anchor double the size and never worried again... 45lbs Bruce. Sticks to the bottom like the proverbial ... excellent video skills again. you two should video for a job.. Hang on a mo, you are... LOL
Hey Colin, looking back now there's a few things I'd have done differently to improve holding (we had little chain out, but it was too crowded and we would have crossed anchors). But our Delta is awesome, it never failed us this season. I think I gained some confidence. So next season less anchor drama, better video quality and more dumb jokes :)
Ohhhh bijna al jullie filmpjes bekeken, heerlijk😍😜
Haha cool! Leuk om te horen dat t zo goed bevalt ;)
I watch sailing la vagabonde too!!! Cant wait to see all ur adventures :)
That is so cool! We are thrilled to have you aboard :)
I love it guys!! Great videos! Just a nice hello from fellow cruisers and vid makers! Cheers, hopefully see ya out there at some point
hey WEsail! Always nice to hear from others making videos as well :) We do meet some channels out there actually, the world is small when cruising. Chances are the boat next to you is doing it too! Where are you cruising? We'll continue to spend our time in the Med.
Is weer een leuke video, goed gedaan, ga zo door😘
We houden nooit meer op 😉
Some of your best edits! Really nice.. but I still think you need to spend more time in and on the places you sail to. Walk around! Film much more of the locales =)
Agreed ! Wish we had a second season to come back and see more of the land around us
I am in love - with See the `little Things - you guys are amazing - love the attitude and jokes - and calmness when things go pear shaped. You inspire me - love the vlogs and what you are doing - and your filmography is outstanding - love the music as well.
be well
Thanks Dirk ❤️ it means a lot to hear you say that! Wait until you get to the newest episodes. We try to up our videography game this season 😁
Lovely video! Cheers from the channel islands.
thanks guys :)
Great episode, your film making is very good, I like your style. I'm with you Alex, I'd be a bit wary of leaving the boat at anchor.
thanks :) yeah it takes a while to get over it. usually I need a night of "proof" until I'm okay. Don't know, its still surreal. Working on it.
@@seethelittlethings There are apps that tell location, send warnings if you drift past a set point etc...........WORKS FOR ME:)
Another good one!
so good!
Thank you ☺️
Just found you two,the RUclips algorithm is a funny thing.Anyway,I've hit the button, and will be looking out for more videos from you, love your style lots.Looks like I might have a bit of catching up to do,will look into that when I get some time 👍😊
Hey Wayne, happy the algorithm did its thing ;) happy to have you around
Enjoy 😉
Thanks! :)
Good editing/camera work.
thanks Barry, we do our best to keep it up
Mandy is a quick change artist. She jumps in with a white and yellow bikini bottom, next thing you see is she is swimming under water with a bikini with a black bottom. 😁 Don’t mind me I catch continuity things like that in Bond films as well. Enjoying your videos, I’ve been bingeing from the beginning. Your off to a good start.
The drone vision is good stuff. Adds another dimension to the already 'on point' camera work. I think the anchoring issue might be the death of Alex - lucky Mandy is the activities director on the crew lol! Enjoyed.
Hoi Mandy leuke film vooral het haar wassen lekker makkelijk..zo doe ik het ook maar dan wel in de badkamer
Hey oma! Leuk he :) ja is inderdaad lekker makkelijk. Nu het kouder wordt was ik ze ook maar weer in de badkamer. Liefs!
Just buy a second anchor. It's more safe when gusty (form a V from the bow with 2 anchors) or one from the bow and one from the Stern when currents
We got a second one now! But uff the hassle of pulling up two anchors .. that’s gotta be quite complicated. With enough chain out we’re actually always fine. We dragged twice in 1,5 years (and once was in over 40knots). Feeling safe by now :)
Oh yeah and the stern anchor we use a lot! But mainly to keep our nose in the swell for a good nights sleep 😴
@@seethelittlethings yes, indeed. But everything is kind of a hassle in sailing 😁
Awesome! I’m using your channel for information only. I’m not enjoying the sailing and sun. No, honestly! 😆
Well that’s why we provide it 😁😁😆
U really should invest in a 20-25kg anchor for your captains peace of mind 😂 Your anchor is superior then mine, but my boat is half your weight and weights the same. My chain is 8mm.
I know! But I think I’m okay now. Few weeks back we dragged for the first time, in 40kn, and you know what, the boat didn’t fly away. It took half an hour to slide across the bay, obviously. Much time to react and since then I feel better about it. a) I know what it takes until it drags, b) when it does, it’s mostly slowly but steadily.
How long are the lines you use to tie to land? I’ve never med moored to land (or a Dock for that matter). I guess I should practice it. I don’t see it much where I live in Florida. I can imagine it would be tricky with a cross wind or current.
hey meganote, they're up to around 50m/150ft if need be. We usually end up using 20-30m.. Crosswinds are tricky, we tend to find coastline with wind from behind or on the nose. if that's not possible we would ask neighbors if they would hold us in place with a line we'd throw on their boat until we're tied up. It's good fun and good company!
I heard you need a Bareboat sailing certification to sail in Greece? Is that true and are one of you certified? Thanks for the episode!
If you charter, your charter company will tell you what they expect from you before they give you a boat. If it’s you own, just make sure you have your own country’s necessary certificate. As far as we know, no country requires you to have more than your own country asks of you
i like your videos 17:10
Hey Mel, glad to hear. Always trying to find something creative each time :)
What app are You using to tell the time of arrival?
We use Navionics and our Raymarine chart plotter for calculating our routes
hi. haven't you been moored to a town quay in Poros (in the narrow part/channel) and had some engine problems? I think we spoke...
We probably did! Moored up close to the big abandoned black ship. I remember someone had a hydraulic passerelle. Maybe that was you? :)
@@seethelittlethings true:) What a small (virtual) world:)
Definitely 😁
@@seethelittlethings See you in Greece this year:) ?
I made it that far! (Where you asked for a comment! 😁)
Nice! That means we kept your interest for that long 😉💪💪🥳 that’s a reason for us to celebrate. Thank you for that 😁😁
:)
:D
Can anyone else set this straight; aren't these islands pronounced Sick-la-dees?
Cyclades (/ˈsɪklədiːz/; Greek: Κυκλάδες [kikˈlaðes])
Somehow people we met pronounced it the way we do in the video. Monkey see monkey do.
Hi Guys, I love your channel, But I cannot hear what you are saying if you play music at the same time as you talk, Many channels do the same thing, and I am convinced it does not help the channel grow, I personally have stopped watching many vlogs for that reason. This is not a complaint, just a bit of feedback. Keep up the good work, fair wind & calm seas!
We know ;) thanks for watching from the beginning. It only gets better :)
No sense of humor in either of you... Y'all are just too Serious.. Relax!!
TBH it's better than many other sailing channels, who are cracking jokes, and laughing every single moment. Not real.
