    I believe you should have done the comparison with optimised on and smoothed off. I would really like to see that comparison. Is the R3 data completely raw or has it been optimised or strip aligned etc?

    We all know the R3 is going to outperform the l2 in every regard except price. It turns into an issue of budget and deliverables. A price comparison might help with weighing that out. Including the added benefit of slam with the r3p.

    Is a 'return' how many times it measures the same point?

    • @nasoskatsampoulas7150
      @nasoskatsampoulas7150 9 месяцев назад +2

      Not exactly. Think of a laser as a cylinder with a diameter. That pulse hits a leaf with (let's say) 25% of the "cylinder's" area, another 25% hits the bush underneath and the rest of the beam hits the ground. A lidar with 3 returns can measure all of those 3 different points, whereas another with 2 returns can measure only the first 2.

    The L2 is 12k and the R3 starts at 25k. For someone just starting and learning cost makes a big difference. Would flying slower help on the L2? Is there a different outcome on a M300 vs M350? If you have a half circle reflection on the R3 side not being used, does it help the data?

      Yeah, $2K to upgrade the original unit to an entirely upgraded system. The new capabilities are more than worth it. And, we're offering incentives to cut that upgrade price more than 50% if you share on your socials. We think this is a pretty fair opportunity.

    I shot thick woods with the L2 and rarely needed more than 3 returns. If you're shooting thick woods just fly slower you'll get through the brush

    • @IndianaDrones
      @IndianaDrones  9 месяцев назад +1

      It's really not about the number of returns the LiDAR has. It's actually about how useful the returns are. How useful is 5 returns if they're not all accurate?

    How much USD for the purchase of the unit and then the ongoing costs to unlock all of the features via your Rock Cloud subscription? I am talking the SLAM subscription, processing subscription that is on top of the membership subscription. So PER Year how much? I mean everything you market the R3 Pro V2 can do I want to know how much it actually costs to be able to keep doing that per year?
    I would also add that you should let everyone know that ROCK Robotics is your company for transparency at the start of the video.

    Faltou publicar quais formam as configurações utilizados para o plando de voo e processamento do L2, vamos lá:
    1) Qual modo foi utilizado? O modo repetitivo temos uma melhora considerável dos dados;
    2) Velocidade;
    3) Processamento foi realizado no modo de ajustamento, foi no DJI Terra?
    Somente com estas informações é possível realizar um comparativo, fora que a amostra da nuvem de pontos escolhida não me pareceu ser muito justa.

    • @awjohnston87
      @awjohnston87 8 месяцев назад +1

      We didn’t see optimized on, smoothing off. Surveyor legal limit of accuracy for topos is half the delivered contour interval. So 1’ contours means you have to be under 0.5’. Aerial* Lidar does best in vegetated areas or general ground shots anyway. For urban areas and features like curbs, just shoot it traditionally or scan with an sx10 and save yourself the headache and liability for busting grades- especially on ADA ramps that require tight specs. The point of using a lower-end system at all would be best for general ground topo shots and where access is limited, or difficult to cover efficiently on foot.

    The big difference is the price of the units themselves and even more so the monthly cost of the software. The difference in cost of the software is the real significant difference. It appears the quality is better on the R3 but not sure if the added quality is necessary for most land survey mapping and justifies the cost of the software. Before making a decision to buy these products consider the cost of the software.

    • @RuebenMiller
      @RuebenMiller 9 месяцев назад +1

      I believe DJI Terra offers a perpetual option at $4400 with occasional update costs if you want to update. It is difficult to justify the $2000 or $1500 a month just to get your point cloud, especially if not using all the time in a seasonal climate area.

    Great video. I own the L1 and have been thinking about upgrading to the L2 but this makes me think twice. Like, does it really make sense to spend $12,500 on the L2, just to try to use the Terra license I already have? (btw the Terra perpetual was $4k for me, purchased in 2023.) It seems like the weirdness of the L1 has not been fixed by DJI. I was really hoping it would be. I agree with others in the comments - you can make the L2 work for you if you understand its limitations, and if you are transparent with your clients about what you are delivering... But it might make more sense to just finance a more expensive sensor and know that you are doing the best you can do...Thank you!

    The clear precision advantage of Rock R3 versus DJI L2 may not be sufficient to justify the double-fold price increase, however; the SLAM feature of Rock R3 is well worth the extra cost enabling indoor mapping and modeling. The modular architecture of Rock R3 is still another outstanding feature. If I were Rock Robototic, I would create a symmetric modular chassis with individual or group slide-lock payload capability. I would thus present a full-frame Rock FX camera module with a mechanical shutter and a 60 mpx sensor to replace the DJI L2 + DJ P1 combo all at once.

    Running the R3 with software specifically optimised for it should obviously result in a better outcome. Running the L2 with Terra would probably produce a better result than shown. The R3 might still be better but the hardware and software cost are multiples of the L2 and Terra cost.

    This looks like a Non-repetitive path scanning for L2. I'm not using it due to this kinda bad result. Total different story for the repetitive scan path, which is very accurate and precise even without smoothing and optimization. I'm super satisfied with my L2 unit in rep mode. I've noticed also a thing: i'm always using an Emlid RS3 set as base when using lidlar, with short baseline data precision increase drammatically, and also doing PPK. Your dataset looks acquired in worst condition possible.

      @@palliard i had L1, i sold for L2. l2 is way better. In repetitive scan is super, the points spread on flat surface is around 4 5cm at 120m agl. My typical altitude is about 90m and I have 3 to 4cm spread, which is pretty good. I've never used non repetitive scan due to lack of precision as seen in this video. L1 was good only for forestry, I had to do a lot of post processing and always mix data from photogrammetry in order to increase precision.
