      While I think there are many people that outright do not enjoy turn based video game combat. I think it also requires a different mindset. I really enjoy arpg's with their high adrenaline gameplay and love how it feels to directly control your character. When playing a turn based game I have an entirely different approach to combat, I enjoy to take my time and try to predict how I can affect future turns and turn them into my advantage.

      @NaNoRarh I had a similar feeling initially, but then one evening I sat down took the controller and got used to it really quickly and since then I am enjoying it. Its simple and easy to use and I dont have to be close to the TV or keyboard/mouse. Of course inventory management has to be done in a different way, but its still very well done with the changed controller UI. Even looting is nice, by long pressing A you simply get access to all items around you and can easily open them/pick them up.

      The biggest thing with turn based games is they're not action games they're strategy games, which means you need patience because to get the most out of a game like this you really want to slow yourself down and think like playing chess. Every move matters . It's really a genre for the intelligence driven gamer and not people who lack patience. But it can also be a great tool for developing patience and a strategic mindset

      You can't suddenly like turn based combat unless you never really disliked turn based combat... If you truly dislike turn based gameplay in games like this all you can do is to learn to ignore flaws for the sake of other good qualities. My friends love BG2 but they are skipping BG3 because from their perspective gameplay downgrade is too hard to swallow especially in such a long game... And funny thing is that they probably would be more open if they wouldn't love Baldur's Gate 2.
      Amount of enemies can be real issue and auto-combat in turn based games is a common thing for a good reason... (I used it a lot in many games)
      It's way easier to develop turn based combat and it can hide a lot of flaws of the game and engine, sooo to some degree (for some people) it can feel cheap... Realtime stuff is not more or less strategic but it requires you to additionally be good observant that knows when to react so even if you think that turn based combat is highly unrealistic, stiff, cheap and time consuming drag you still have to accept some lower barriers to entry from perspective of both sides (devs and players).

They combined indie studio level of ambition with AAA game budget and we ended up with a really ambitious game that actually fulfilled its potential. I think the beigest reason why so many people who dislike turn based are okay with it here is because there is so much intractability with the environment and items in the inventory. Like I much prefer Elder Srolls Online more "action" combat but I still prefer BG3. ESO would need to let me manipulate objects to throw ropes to climb to places, to throw barrels and flasks to make environmental efffects that increase damage of moves like AoE staff fire attacks for example. it would need to have environmental obsticles that you get through by using spells. It would need to let me have up to 3 of my companions follow me (really 4 people parties are staple of any RPG from Earthbound to Final Fantasy to Balder's Gate ya know?).

I do love RPG games but also like action combat.. idk I think Dragon's Dogma spoiled rpg games for me 😅

      Turn based is actually more 'action' combat than real time with pause, because that's just automated.

    Mh name... does not matter 😂, but you can call me Bill.
    I love souls--like games. Especially Bloodborne. I also like fallout games. 4 and 3 are my the most favorite. I like fallout 4 even mor3, then falloutmnew vegas.
    And now, with all that information in mind. Will I enjoy playing playing this game? By the way, I also like call of duty and battlfield, but I guess, I am too old for those, so I hope to spend no longer, then 5-10 hours for a full playthough on an individual character, couse I do not give a f@ck on the story, but love to create different builds. And I' e hear, there is only 10 leels to upgrade the character? I can make a purchase in this case. But - no f#cking cut scenes, story, and all that crap. I create a character, beat the game jn maximum 10 hours - chreate a new character. Possible?

    used to think I was an RPG lover but the years have turned me more into a looter and action lover. Tried to play CRPG's but can't do it. I often find myself skipping dialogue in games, story's don't matter at all to me. Couple this with boring combat and BG3 was a big lose for me.

    I don't mind the turn based thing but I must admit I'm bored by the CRPG nature of Baldur's Gate 3. Everything is unnecessarily too complicated in BD3. Spell, resting time, characters systems, sub, systems, sub-sub systems, etc... I don't understand why some games like to be so complicated. We're in 2023 and RPG video games (even D&D ones) managed since a long time how to optimize game mechanics and player time without losing depth... This nostalgia of darker times is nonsensical.

    • @corbanbausch9049
      @corbanbausch9049 11 месяцев назад +4

      The reason why it’s like this is that this game isn’t just based on D&D, it *is* D&D. Every rule and system is ripped straight from the players handbook and dungeon master’s guide with only a few tweaks. It’s basically an adaptation.

    • @IsomerSoma
      @IsomerSoma 9 месяцев назад

      The simple reason is that complex systems lead to variability and challenges to over come. To me such systems are interesting. Its a major part of why i love crpgs. You are wrong about the "without losing depth" part at least when it comes to tactical and mechanical depth. I can see why such systems are in dire need ro be properly tutorialized, but other than that this simply isn't what you're personally looking for. I have zero nostalgia bias as i am too young to have played those games. I instantly loved pillars of eternity 1 and about every crpg-renaissance game. I am a book reader, which is kind of prequesite to enjoy most crpgs. Not with baldur's gate 3. That's also why it is such a massive commercial success. Turns out there are many people loving complex and tactical games as long as the presentation isn't the one of a book. You are just not one of them. As far as i jusge the vast majority of bg3 players are dos2/new players which aren't familiar with the original baldurs gate. Deep rpg systems aren't about nostalgia, but experimentation, optimization, unique situations and intellectual satisfaction. That's the fun in it.

      So a choice/mix between dos3 and bg3? Considering dos2 is already fantastic still sounds like a win/win to me. Consider the fact that the ONLY chance for a real bg3 to be better than 1 or 2 would've been from the original Devs, all of them from their then studio which will never happen I fail to see the down side here. I disagree btw, I think they did the best they could.

    • @lukaskubinec9608
      @lukaskubinec9608 11 месяцев назад +2

      Very similar artwork ..... yes and no. In BG3 I think they didn't hold back with showing dark scenes and making the plot/quests more dark than in DOS2, in that regards it is a huge improvement.
      What was to be expected is the typical gameplay in which you can use almost anything from your surroundings and it feels very "sandboxy" - which I understand that is something that some people might hate...tbh honest I did not like it at all when I first tried DOS2, but then I came to terms with it and now I enjoy it since it offers very much of replayability value.
      Dialogues are very well written with very minor reproaches that I had during some scenes.
      Overall I think we have strong contender for RPG of the year and definitely also a game of the year contender - despite that we still have some major releases coming out this year and I would rather remain composed since it is not obvious yet that Larian will win despite that they very much deserve it IMO.

    I personally don't mind the turn-based part of the game, Heroes Of Might and Magic is my favorite series of all time. Having said that, in RPGs I just can't stand this pseudo party system with NPCs who follow you around sniffing your ass on every step. It is insanely immersion breaking. Previous games had the "lone wolf" perk that would allow you to beat the game on the hardest difficulty using only 2 characters. For some reason, they entirely removed it. Biggest let down.

      Act 3 content is partly not missing content but bugged. Some reactions exist but fail to trigger. That's of course not good, but even then the game is so mich above most other games that it's an easy 90. Also larian always releases bugged games that always get fixed and improved upon with a definitive edition 1 year later or so.
      Your selective perception trying to force culture war bullshit into this doesn't check out. How is a cleric (shadowheart) more magic than a warlock (wyll) for example? How is rogue (astarion) unless you play trickster subclass magic at all? You know that rogue is both ranged and meele? What's your issue with female fighter warriors in fantasy games? Like to most normal people this isn't an issue.
