But since we're on the subject, hot exhaust gases won't ignite gas fumes. A cigarette cherry won't even ignite gas fumes. Only a spark or open flame will.

Saw these aircraft drop low and go up again over the mid North Coast a few years back it was a incredible sound and sight all 3 just appeared out of nowhere above us and went back up after 30 seconds at low altitude
I saw a flight of two hornets 6 or so months back, Live in the Mid north coast 20 minutes west of Wingham. Great sight, flying probably only 12000 feet or less, they make aheck of a noise with those afterburners as well! Could hear them ages away, you can just tell when you hear those powerful engines!

They make it look so damn easy! I have spent days trying to hook up the drogue in DCS to my FA18. Eventually I get so frustrated that the only option is to shoot down the refueler.

Lots of jets have a pilot and copilot, copilot is filming here. You can see all the room in the cab up front where the pilot is.

This is how drones are born
This thing is a huge pain in the ass. AA refueling is like the most tough thing you will see. You gotta match the speed exactly and also aim for funnel at the same time. Also during minor aircraft turbulence you have got to mimic the refueling aircraft movements
Infact the F-15C has slightly easier method that instead of plane having refueling boom, it has a hole for refueling while the fuel tank instead extends and guides itself to jet's fuel tank

Well there is a extremely surreal flight sim called DCS world which used real flight mechanics and that sort of stuff.
You could see others talking too about this in the thread
The boom method allows only one simultaneous refuel per tanker... the hose and drogue allow up to 5 simultaneous depending on type of tanker used.
The boom requires less pilot skill and a specialist boom operator. The probe and drogue requires high pilot skill levels.
Saayan Biswas that’s a video game. The speed is computer held and the stick sensitivity is set low to make minor adjustments.

Not really physics. The US navy setup uses the probe and drogue and the probe is positioned for pilot visibility.
The air force system uses a controlled extending probe that plugs into a receptacle on the receiving jet, which can be on the nose, the back behind the cockpit or on the shoulder because the pilot doesnt have to see it and fly into it.

I’m surprised that a lot of people didn’t know the Air Force has refueling planes. They’re called KC-10s & KC-135s. Our local air base has a bunch of em so I see em everyday
The RAAF only flies the Airbus KC-30A MRTT. KC-10s and KC-135s are flown by the US Air Force.

What I love about this is everything looks so calm and still. Like they’re being excessively careful putting a hose to a faucet. When really no, they’re transferring gasoline and moving 362mph.
Actually relative motion is zero, it's as easy as going to toilet on plane, though plane still moves at very high speed.
