I was the sound engineer and tour manager for the Fixx for many years. Best band I ever worked for. Great guys, and they're still out there touring and making new music. Still the same 5 guys from the classic line up.
Big in the disco days of the 80's...remember it well....I was a bouncer at a club called "Talk of the Town" in Clearwater, Fl. in 1982....thanks for the trip down memory lane.
@@mikelunsford7462 True, but that was the exception, not the rule. Still way better than the generic, disposable milk toast bland autotuned pablum that passes for music today.
I loaned my cassette single of this to a friend-of-a-friend back in '89 and never saw it again--a testament to how good the song is! Seriously, Mark, if you're out there, I need my Fixx tape back.
I fully realize what Amber speaks of about music that has a "Groove" that you JUST HAVE TO MOVE TO. THE Decade from 1980-1990 was a total scientific science experiment put to tones. God I miss those days

The FIXX is one of my most favorite techno-funk bands of the 80's....i got to see them live back in 89....what impressed me with them is that they sound the same live as they do on CD....
The Fixx have many great songs, with many different sounds.. "Red Skies at Night" , "Are We Ourselves" , "Deeper Deeper", "Saved by Zero"... also should check out the sound track from the movie "Streets of Fire" ( Meatloaf / Jim Steinman, Rock Opera ).. so many great tracks
All the songs on Reach the Beach are funky. Even the slower ones. The whole album is fantastic. It may not be a “concept album” but they did really great at arranging the songs.
The cover of Reach the Beach set the tone for the entire album. Its has the seeds of the dark undertones throughout the album. You never really think the term "reach the beach" unless you are in danger of NOT reaching the beach.
One of the great things I noticed about this song when I was a kid, that I never hear anyone mention, is how they play the same guitar riff through almost the entire song and it never gets boring. Great song.
Great Band! Many hits such as red skies, stand or fall, saved by zero, how much is enough, driven out, secret separation, deeper and deeper. The band is still touring today!
@@laneynorth8253 was fortunate to see them in a small venue during their Calm Animals tour. I was standing so close to him, I could read the set list. My high school friend was in the opening band for them that night
I loved this group in high schooI! I had a couple of their cassettes that I would listen to all the time. There was a lot of variety in '80's New Wave, and The Fixx had a bit of a punkish sound that I appreciated.
Some of their songs had deep meanings... one of the things about the 80s was the threat of nuclear war... their song "Red Skies" is about that... Their song "Saved By Zero" is about the Buddhist concept of filling your life with experiences and not material things.
You didn't know this one was about nukes, too ? Miscommunication, misunderstandings , and one thing leads to another. .Pertinent to today and all the bozos running things ...Let's blow up the world to save a little country from the big meanie..More like , let's make money for them defense industry and wipe out bunch of humans ..Probably gonna happen .
Great band. They were kinda considered as "New Wave" back in the day. An MTV staple band. You'd hear em in the dance clubs a bit...they used to put on a pretty good live show too...(lol great, my comment is #666...I don't need anymore bad luck than I've already got)
This song, because the sound is so up front in the mix, shows a very prominent 80s guitar sound -- no distortion, but heavy use of a "chorus" effect. A chorus pedal gives that shimmery, almost crystalline timbre to the guitar. A quick visit to Wikipedia will explain what the hell I'm describing in more specific (but vaguely understandable) audio processing terms. The chorus effect was very common in 80s pop hits.
Cy Curnin (Lead Singer) and Jamie West-Oram(guitarist) also played on Tina Turners "Better be Good to Me", WHICH WOULD BE A GREAT TINA VID FOR YOU TO DO 💥😍💥💗💥🥰💥 Even better live but still a great vid.
The Fixx is a good British New Wave Rock band from the 1980s. According to Wikipedia, the band will be releasing a new CD, entitled "Every Five Seconds" which will debut in June, 2022.
This song was on the first album(well, cassette tape) that I ever bought for myself, on a K-Tel compilation album, for $2 at a flea market, back in 1984.
Saw them live in '83 and they were really good, really good musicians. Another funky radio hit from about this time period is Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive" from 1984, and I like the Eurythmics' 1985 "Would I Lie to You?" with it, too.
Yep, total dance club banger. Saved by Zero is another big hit. I really love the funky bass line in this and what makes it work is it's so tasty and sparse. There's so much space in it, sometimes he lays out for two or even three bars before he comes back in.
Lots more Fixx to listen to. Saved By Zero. Are We Ourselves. Secret Separation. In the early 2000s I saw them in an 80s revival tour along with Asia, The Outfield, and Berlin. Great performances all even years after all their radio hits.
The Fixx is my favorite rock band in 80s and somehow I have just discovered the band has released a new album in 10 years and "the closer" is a fantastic song. I only listened few songs from Amazon but cannot wait album release in early June.
You know, as a harder rocker, I didn't much care for a lot of this "new wave" that came out back in the 80's. But, that being said, I think it's miles ahead of most of the pop stuff being done today.
The Fixx are definitely one of those bands that defined the 80's sound. They have a whole bunch of great songs, I'd recommend checking out Saved By Zero or Stand Or Fall.
Cy Curnin is the lead singer. Loved the Fixx in the early 80! This was their only Top 10 hit, but they had plenty of other great ones - "Red Skies at Night", "Are We Ourselves?", "Saved by Zero", "Stand or Fall", and "Secret Separation" are definitely songs you need to check out! Bit o' trivia - The band was originally called The Fix, but the record label didn't like it's possibly drug-use connotations, so they added the extra X to make it cooler. For some other GREAT 80s bands you haven't reacted to yet, I highly recommend "Send Me an Angel" by Real Life, and "We Close Our Eyes" by Go West.
Back when I was a young soldier, this was the first music video I ever saw back in MTV's startup era. At first I wondered if it was a commercial, but hey whatever they were selling, I was buying it! Hadn't seen any performance art at that time, so had no way to understand that the lead singer was pantomiming odd moves to ethereal music. The Fixx... So completely underated. I know I'm months late on this comment, but if you get the chance, check out Secret Separation... it's absolute perfection.
A song from back in the day. I danced so many times to it over that period of time. It has to be said over and over again...80s had so much original music 🎶
I don't know about the rest of the country, but in my neck of the woods in the 80's there were a lot of dance clubs and roller skating rinks, both of which you need dance music for, so maybe that was why the sound of the 80's is overwhelming in dance-a-bility, because of the venues the music would be playing in.
I have to add one to the list: "Deeper and Deeper" from the Streets of Fire soundtrack. A Fixx non-album GEM. There is a shorter "single" version under 4 min if you don't want the full over 6 min version.
Summer at night - full blast - with the top down - stopped at a light song
J & Amber, you'll love their "Saved By Zero", "Red Skies", and "Stand Or Fall" !
they would love saved by zero and thats got to be next :D
'Saved By Zero' oh oh hell yeah.

Red Skies At Night🎶😎
The Fixx, to me, was a slept-on 80's band...you should hear Are We Ourselves and Secret Separation.
I have not listened to those two songs in far too long!
Thanks for the reminder!
Oh yeah, "Are We Ourselves" definitely!
"Secret Separation" is such an underated song, my favorite by them.
Definitely “Are We Ourselves?” Heard that song tonight for the first time in over 30 years. And was it like I had listened to it yesterday.
