  • Something a little bit different this time. But it was definitely on the list of tunes I wanted to play. I never played this on stage. So it's sort of a premiere. Hope you like it!

We are from Tennessee Mr. Ausserbauer. All of our family are dead, except for my 84 year old mother and I. I was sitting back here one night, Trying hard to get close to your rendition, when she came in, with tears in her eyes, telling me how much she loved that song, how much it had meant to her and my dad (they had been married 59 years when he died) and how much she enjoyed hearing me play it. wow, I hadn't played it in years, had no idea that it would make her happy, I owe you. It was a God thing that You posted this, and I found it. You made a very old wonderful lady, very happy. Thank you!

This is a lovely melody! Never heard it on the C melody before, but you give it real character. Well done.

Certainly clears up a lot of misconceptions about the C-melody. One of these would be a worthwhile addition to any sax player's arsenal. The C-melody offered by Aquilasax sounds great and is not horribly expensive.

If imitation really the most sincere form of flattery, then I have flattered the living daylights of you. Boots Randolph made me drop the trumpet like a hot rock. Alas he is no longer among us, but left me with a lifelong love affair with the Tenor sax. In 1969, in my family, we searched long and hard for a sax we could afford, and it turned out to be a Conn Alto, that was 2 days older than God, and had more leaks, than a screen door on a submarine It took me to 6 years in the #1 band in the state, as 1st chair, and to 6 years of all region, (but not enough to make all state) Later on, in the Navy, it kept me sane (relatively) and several other men who got together on the fantail of the Eisenhower, and just free jammed. anyway, back to the point, I love your playing, and your videos, please keep em coming. If I may make a request, I would love to hear you play "You Belong To Me" and "I'll be seeing you" by Jo Stafford.

Hi Joe, first of all thanks for your wonderful comment. Maybe I'll record the Stafford tunes in the future. Know them and like them. And what I like most are your words "It took me to...". I too use to think that it's the horn that took and takes me to all kind of places ;-)

Nice sound and very good intonation. It sounds more like a tenor. Usually I think the C Melody sounds more like an alto.

Thanks for the comment. I always found the C-Mel to be closer to the tenor. But maybe it's just because I like to play it that way.

Mr. Ausserbauer, first off, you are awesome! Thank you for posting. I am madly in love with that c melody tenor, but am having a time finding one, I went to their website, but couldn't find a price list, may I ask where you got yours?

Ist das Lebayle Studio #9 ein Alto? Das klingt sehr schön auch dem Melody.....

  • @joeabaker57

do you mind if I ask what m/p reed setup you are using? I've been trying to get this sound since the 70's. I used a Brillhart 5c on my tenor back then, and my band director said it sounded like a duck call, LOL I liked that sound, and still play it on tenor, have a 5c and 7c for my alto per his direction, I also have Sigurd Rashers for both horns for a more refined sound
