Great lecture; why no showing of the illustrations Dr. Lindgren is pointing too, at all times?

Kind of Insane that Scarborough had the First Artillery Fort in England, Built across the Bay from the Castle to Protect the Royal Wool Trade, Now sadly long lost to Erosion.

Just amazing to me: The Brits and the Germans so afraid to lose a dreadnought that they just refused to use them. Billions in war materiel rusting away, while Tommy and Hans groveled in the muddy trenches. (Meanwhile Haig and Hindenberg dined on steak, drank wine and had warm, dry feet)

I didn't know Aiden Gillan was such a good naval historian...

i dont think ive ever heard this tactitc posited before and maybe theres a good reason. Why didnt the Uboats target the blockading ships one by one and destroy cruiser fleet in detail? this was before ASW really so why not? it seems like that would scare the brits more than commerce fleet losses.

Uboats had a very hard time catching up to warships on the move. It would have been a frustrating and dangerous endeavor

U Boot use was still new, and it's a LOT harder in those old boats to sink a warship in the best of circumstances. And if caught on the surface, the UBoot was done for. Can't run fast, can't take a hit...Very dangerous job.
