I used the metal base on all my Kallax but added a pair of metal legs on the front and back center of each base by electric soldering. If not, the weight of the Kallax will tend to bend the metal base in the middle. In addition, I have three other Kallax with wheels, including one in the center front and rear. Ikea used to offer a wheel set with special railings but is no longer available. I use these Kallax as my cleaning stations and to store additional records. The advantage is that I can move them around as I need. Each of these cleaning stations have electrical strips to plug my cleaning equipment, and the strips are connected to wall outlets with a power cable of good size. This way I can move the cleaning stations away from the wall to make cleaning easier. Two of the stations feature the VPI Cyclone, the Pro-Ject VC-S3, and the KLAUDIO, and the third the inspection station and manual cleaning. Cleaning liquids, brushes, etc, are kept in Ikea Billy bookcases with glass doors.

Nailing on a backing board makes it more solid and stops it from moving side to side, another reason they can collapse.

I use the underframe in my Kallax units. However, I installed a two additional legs in the middle front and rear and it helps a lot. If the unit is too heavy it will tend to sag in the middle even with the underframe. In addition I have a unit I use for record maintenance and that one is on three pairs of wheels.

what did you use. I am having trouble finding the right ones that do not come in a 4 pack. Also did you attach under the unit (about 7") or to the frame (about 5")?

I bought the undeframe and was so impressed I went back to Ikea for a second one. I'm using my Kallax to store my records and as a stand for my Dj equipment. It provides great support and a clean look.

That is really good to know. With regard to your Kallax storing records, I'd like to ask, was the height of the underframe adequate to clear your baseboard? If so, does the placement of the Kallax on the underframe allow the unit to press flat against the wall behind it?

@@LetsCleanaRecord The base/underframe is the same depth as a Kallax unit, so a baseboard would still be in the way.

I keep seeing that big old safe in your videos. I have the same situation - my music room used to be my home office and my safe was a housewarming gift from my in-laws and holds all of my family’s important documents, old tax records, etc.
I’m constantly thinking about how I could have another 10 cubes of record storage if I could relocate the behemoth but there’s really nowhere in the house where I could move it.

So weird, I almost bought the record you are using for the example today -what a coincident!😀

I wouldn't do this myself. I don't have enough space in my room too have dividers sticking out, but I do think they look good and its a great idea !

Unfortunately they don't make the underframe in 3 or 5 wide widths, only 2 and 4.
The easiest way to bolt the unit to the wall is to screw a 1x4 or 2x4 horizontally into the studs of your wall (paint it first!). Then where you position the Kallax itself doesn't matter, you can screw it to your horizontal "stud". This will also solve the baseboard problem as it will push the unit off the back wall so you won't need feet (but might want them as the units do look better).
At Ikea you can ask at the courtesy desk if they have any extra mounting clips. The wood reinforcement that those clips screw into on the Kallax is at both the top and bottom, so if they do you can also bolt the Kallax to the wall at the bottom as well as the top. Handy if you are stacking them.

i used a hot glue gun to stick my vinyl in the sleeve, and small white labels to write on

Very cool. May I ask, what sort of labels are you using? These are adhered directly to the record's surface?

Autobiographical would be amazing. I have been logging my collection on Discogs, and I find I can recall buying pretty much every record I have. I have added a section to enter that info. I should be able to sort autobiographically, but I think I will just go with alphabetically (then chronologically by artist). Going by genre would get my head spinning, haha. Would art rock and progressive rock be separate?
And yes, that is the most value a Barbara Streisand record could ever provide me.

The best to go is witha metal shelving unit works great holds the weight of your vinyl records.you can put four wood crates on a 36"×18" unit . A lot better flipping through your records

@LetsCleanaRecord 95% of my records are store in wood crates using metal shelving.
